So technically, we can just say Lagos has colonial origins. I remember learning this in Nigerian History class.
The sad thing is that a lot of people won't agree with this.
Lagos just happens to be in the South-west region of Nigeria, but its not the land of the Yoruba; its a border state. If you like call it Eko from now till tomorrow.

Every part of Nigeria is colonial territory

Does that mean you longer own your village?

In 1923 in the Tijani Oluwa case the highest Court in the British Empire ruled that Lagos belonged to the indigenous people of Lagos

The first colonial masters or owners were the Binis!

We are all emigrants because even those laying claims emigrated from somewhere.

British people had same arrangements with other tribes and states as well, they really loved Lagos because it's a coastal city. What's your point oseni.

Verify the meaning of origin first. Lagos cannot have colonial origin if the colonials met people in Lagos and signed an agreement with the king that they met there.

Who are the Aworis

You forget Aworis are in Ife Osun state and in Ogun state

Besides Ibeju, Epe and Ikorodu is indigenous to Jebu as in Ijebu.

This is Lagos island not Lagos State.

Just like Oyo state is different from Oyo town.

Enugu town is different from Enugu state

Lagos State is a Creation of the Nigerian military government.

By the way, there is nothing contentious in saying Lagos State is Yoruba land.

The whole of Nigeria once belonged to Royal Niger company as a private property. It doesn't mean there were no indigenous Hasuas in Kano or indigenous Igbos in Anambra at that time.

Why do you guys like coming to threads like this with your common sense to educate these yiibos. Pls don't ever interrupt when they're dancing naked and entertaining me with their foolishness, OK? Pls let me enjoy the show. My yiibo brothers pls don't mind this guy. Oya, continue. Can you also advise us to start listing all Oyo State governors from the time of the kings of the Oyo Kingdom, since both of them are called Oyo? I will love to have your braindead opinion on that. Thank you.

Rufai is a fool, does that mean British own India,South Africa,Ghana etc,British govt colonised the whole county but this fool want to single out Lagos state, the fool unknowingly just confirmed that Lagos belongs to yoruba because the document signed was between oba dosunmu(a yoruba man)and the British and it covers a very tiny part of Lagos as u can see from the map below

That's how they manipulate urchins on Twitter, imagine that's what he has to say, trying to praise the British for developing Lagos where the documents clearly contain free permission for the British to loot Lagos freely.

This should actually be interpreted as the documents that delayed the development of Lagos, but fools on Twitter won't see it as that

Nigeria president elect was a successful governor in Lagos even when the OBASANJO led federal government was against him. Oseni is not relevant than spreading nonsense to deceive some set of youth. He should have said Lagos has no improvement at all since 1960. I wonder what has happened in the whole south east even with the Oil they have since 1960.

A simple Wikipedia article with relevant references would have saved rufai the embarrassment. Rufai is not a deep thinker. He thrives on picking crumbs of information and running with it. Just search for Lagos Colony and see the results

Lagos Colony was a British colonial possession centred on the port of Lagos in what is now southern Nigeria. Lagos was annexed on 6 August 1861 under the threat of force by Commander Beddingfield of HMS Prometheus who was accompanied by the Acting British Consul, William McCoskry. Oba Dosunmu of Lagos (spelled "Docemo" in British documents) resisted the cession for 11 days while facing the threat of violence on Lagos and its people, but capitulated and signed the Lagos Treaty of Cession.[1] Lagos was declared a colony on 5 March 1862.[2] By 1872, Lagos was a cosmopolitan trading center with a population over 60,000.[3] In the aftermath of prolonged wars between the mainland Yoruba states, the colony established a protectorate over most of Yorubaland between 1890 and 1897.[4] The protectorate was incorporated into the new Southern Nigeria Protectorate in February 1906, and Lagos became the capital of the Protectorate of Nigeria in January 1914.[2] Since then, Lagos has grown to become the largest city in West Africa, with an estimated metropolitan population of over 9,000,000 as of 2011.[5]

Lagos Was Owned By The British For 99 Years - Rufai Oseni Shares Treaty Cession Document (Photo)

Arise TV News presenter and author, Rufai Oseni has added his voice to the recent tribal arguments amongst Lagosians over the 'ownership' of Lagos State, IGBERETV reports.

The argument got intense following the campaign of Labour Party's Lagos gubernatorial aspirant, Gbadebo Rhodes-Vivour whose mother is Igbo. Also, Labour Party's presidential candidate, Mr Peter Obi who is from Anambra state won Lagos State in the just concluded presidential poll against former Lagos Governor Bola Tinubu.

In a tweet on Wednesday, March 15, Oseni said Lagos was a British colony until it was ceded to a Lagos Monarch

He went on to state that some of the developments in the state were made by the British. He also shared a photo showing the treaty cessation document between the then British government and Oba Dosunmu.

Oseni refused to acknowledge the positions that "Lagos is no man's land," or that "it is a Yoruba land".

He wrote;

That it. "Belonged" to RNC is debatable
Was any Nigerian party to that arrangement?
What are the particulars of that deal?
It is not true to the extent that they never took possession of their" property "
Also I don't think they were present in the North
Their main base was Calabar and their business was palm oil

The highest court in the British Empire the Privy Council in London overruled that treaty in 1923
in the case of Oluwa of Lagos Chief Tijani Amodu and it ruled that Lagos belonged to the indigenes of Lagos
