It is not too late for Ekweremadu his wife or one of Sonia's bothers to donate a kidney
That is what real love looks like
Spare us this they love their daughter nonsense.

If they really love her let them do the needful

My brother, any parent will do the same.

We hate Nigeria's politicians including Ekemadu, if I see him in one corner, he won't come out alive. However, he is not as faulty as most of us and the world is made to believe. Any parent will do anything to save a dying child. May God not put us in a tight situation of life and death
No!!
reasonable parents will donate their own kidney

Pretty Sonia needed a Kidney transplant.

A 21 year old man was brought in from Lagos as the donor after matching kidneys were confirmed through a middle-man (a doctor who has been convicted with the Ekweremadus).

He was promised Β£7,000 pounds to sell his kidney.

At the hospital, the doctor in charge of the surgical operation interviewed the donor/victim.

One of the requirements for the surgery was that the donor can afford life-long medical care that comes with living with one kidney.

The donor/victim couldn't give assurances that he could afford life-long medical care and he wasn't briefed about the pros and cons of the process before he accepted to come to the UK.

The donor/victim walked into a police station and made a report.

Ekweremadu, his wife and the middle man doctor were arrested.

Under UK laws, organ donors are not to be paid for donating their organs. They are to do so voluntarily without charge.

The Modern Slavery Act enacted by parliament in 2015 was violated.

Ekweremadu, his wife and middle man doctor have been convicted.

They await sentencing which could be as severe has life imprisonment.

The donor/victim has been granted asylum because his safety in Nigeria cannot be guaranteed.

Pretty Sonia the sick girl has been discharged and acquitted by the court. She still hopes for a kidney donor.

The case is the first of its kind in the UK and the conviction is a landmark achievement since the enactment of the Modern Slavery Act in 2015.

Sonia is so pretty, kind-hearted and harmless πŸ’•πŸ’•πŸ’•πŸ’•. I'm depressed. I feel for her. She'll live with the guilt of destroying her own parents 😒😭😭😭

Lovely summary, keep it up.

Pretty Sonia pretty sonia

Kind hearted sonia
Maybe If 'pretty sonia' was ugly you would think differently.

Or If she was one of the pretty housewives we see on SM every other day who was arrested for beating up an 8 year old housemaid

You have no idea what kind of person Sonia is

But Sonia clearly knew what was going down and went with it. She has been buttered in the UK and knows how the society looks at exploitation.

Nigeria UnIronically is full of pretty sonias who grow up with exploitation of others in their faces and take it as the natural order of things

Nigeria is full of wealthy families with pretty children who have one raggedy bullied child from the village as a house help /minder. The story is that that househelp child is being helped. The child cannot be helped by being put in the same school and given the same opportunities as the pretty children - rather the child goes to one local govt school like that.

Because Nigerians accept this as the natural order of things, they think it is the right of the elite to exploit the paupers in any and every way.

Ekeremadu has been in Nigerian money for decades and has an extended family who have benefited from his largesse. Without a doubt, there are enough poor members of his extended family who may have even given an arm and a leg. But ekeremadu wanted an easily discarded stranger who could be paid a token for what is tantamount to a slow death sentence.

A family member would have come back after complications of living with one kidney set in, and he would be forced to do something

All this story of a deal - what does an uneducated pauper know about the worth of his kidney? If they had said we will buy your arm he may have had an idea of the immediate implications.

A middle class soft life person can afford to sell off their kidney, not a pauper carrying blocks or running in traffic. Apparently most poor people who sell their kidneys are unable to continue the hustle they were in before.

All ekeremadu had to do was find an extended family member, be 101% open and commit to the shakedown by the family and community and accept that he or Sonia would carry that person in one way or another for the rest of the person's natural life.

Instead he looked for one pauper to exploit. They were helping him, after all. I heard a story where some dude in Nigeria did the same thing. Paid a guy 5 or 10m for their kidney. Maybe it was 2m.the person who sold the kidney blew the money at the club in a month. Definitely had no idea what he was doing. Which is what the buyer wants in any event. Let the person die and have no issue to come back to me later.

Paternal and maternal instincts at play.

Any sane parents can fall into this divine trap because most can't stand their children dying before their very eyes except if there is absolutely nothing they can do about it.

Besides, even if they are truly guilty as charged, they weren't planning to commit murder at least. It was just a case of understanding between them and the young lad. Though I ain't supporting such extremity, it's just a classical case of how parents can go crazy because of their children.
Clearly, the essence of the judgment is lost on you! If he loves his daughter as you claim his, his wife’s and relatives kidneys were available and could have been donated! It is wicked and indeed exploitative to have gone the route he took just because he is wealthy and the sourced donor poor and in need of a better life. Such conduct is one reason Nigerians and Africans are this backward!

Such exploitative mentality and conduct is one reason Nigerians and Africans are this backward! And to think he is still lying and grossly unrepentant! I never said he will get life imprisonment.

That's the maximum as detailed in their law. And there's no option of fine. For being UK's first case under the Organ Harvesting act, I'm sure they will want to send a message to others engaging in such act.

I guess if he gets the minimum sentence and after deducting the time he already spent...he may be lucky to end up with just 6months.

Again, I didn't say he will do life sentence. I said he "May".....(if the judge decides to give the maximum penalty). The law is the law. Whatever the presiding judge decides, I'm sure there's room for appeal too if it's not favourable.

After going through all the comments, I noticed that it’s the accused’s kinsmen that are feeling pity for him, while being sentimental at it.

This is a big sign that Peter Obi & non of their people should be made to reach aso rock, because like buhari, this people will run Nigerian with their sentimental way of β€œnna, na my brother”.

I’m so happy the accused was caught.

It will further cement the fact that these people have criminality ingrained in their gene & dna.

Please read
https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-65015489

Ekweremadu is a lawyer, He knew exactly what he was doing
He was advised to seek a family donor but totally disregarded that advice
He used the doctor as a middle man so as to create room for deniability and did not have any contact with the young man initially.
The fee was Β£8000 of which Β£6000 was going to the doctor and Β£2000 to the boy.
They arranged a visa for the boy claiming he was Sonia's cousin
Sometimes too much sense can make a person stupid . For them it was all business and even the doctor was out to exploit the boy
That Same doctor already had a transplant under similar circumstances and his donor is living in poverty in the UK.
They assume Oyinbo are stupid. Before they remove your kidney they have serious protocols
One of which is an interview. Imagine a doctor interviewing a donor discovering that the donor was hearing the name EKWEREMADU for the first time
The problem with many people commenting here is lack of exposure. They only known the lawlessness of Nigeria and are clueless about a system where there are rules.
The doctor would want to know why are you doing this? Why would anyone donate their kidney?
Spend 5 minutes to imagine an interview where you are trying to convince a stranger why you are donating your kidney, what would you tell them? You hardly know anything about the recipient,so is it love kinship or what?
They will ask you have you been paid
There is a form for that where it is all documented . If we assume that the boy agreed to be paid then he was not properly coached for that interview. He failed the interview and the doctor was not convinced
All this while the boy was not staying at Ekweremadu s luxury home he was sleeping on a couch at the doctors flat .
It really is a very shameful story for NIgeria, that and for those of us who still have shame
It reveals a very wicked people who have no value for human life if they have more money than you.
I am sorry I feel no pity for Ekweremadu. None He is a ruthless person with no human feelings

This is the most sensible Comment I have read on this issue. God bless you.
