Yes, there are good mutual funds.

A major consideration when you wish to invest in mutual funds or investment generally is the safety of your capital which is guaranteed in all money market funds. With government regulation through SEC, investors in mutual funds can rest assured of the safety of the funds.

Stanbic MMF or EDC MMF is a good option for Money market funds while
SFS fixed income fund is a good option for the fixed income category.

However, note that any mutual funds such as balance fund or equity funds that have elements of equity or purely equity base doesn't guarantee your returns or capital but the returns are always more than the MMF or Fixed income which is in line with the usual expression 'The higher the risk the higher the return and vice versa"

As usual, contact me with the details on my signature if you need further clarification on mutual funds.

Amazing thanks to those using my link. Not much I can give back but to congratulate you for making that leap, and welcoming you as fellow voyagers in the wealth building journey.

With consistency you'll look back after a couple of years and be amazed at how much leap you have made, and then look ahead to the possibilities that wait ahead.

I advice those opening mutual funds, especially those I give personal advice to prioritise having an emergency fund. 3-6months of your usual expenses should be saved somewhere in case an emergency arises, 12months saved is the absolute goal. This way you do not dip into your long term investment. It's best to save your emergency fund in a high interest saving account or even in a money market fund that is easily accessible.

All the best, let me know if you need any help, you know how to find me and massive thanks again for using my link.

We must all be rich.

Sir, does SFS fixed income rate fluctuate, is it regulated by SEC and what is the minimum amount i can invest there?

Rate fluctuation is minimal unlike the MMF for example it has been above 11% for the past 6 months.
It's regulated by SEC and the minimum amount to invest is N5,000

Quick question for u....
Say I currently make X amount monthly as returns on stanbic MMF, does doubling the capital automatically double my monthly returns??

MPR is now 18%
Good news for MMF and fixed-income investors.

Yes if the rate remains the same. The returns are proportional to the current capital. The higher the capital the higher the returns and vice versa

Please note that the rate is valued daily and it can be up or down.
Generally, MMF rates were high across the industry from December last year till Mid January or so. In February rates went downward till this March. It's just last week that rate started to look up again. That is the reason you saw your returns lower.
Otherwise, it's as I explained above.

Good, but is fixed deposit of 11-13% is far better than that

I don't think so.

First you will pay WHT on fixed deposit in the bank
But the interest for FIF is tax free.

Secondly that rate can only be given if you have so much to deposit and for a longer time.
But any amount as little as 5,000 will be same interest with FIF

If you do fixed deposit and there is improvement in MPR like it happend today the rate for fixed deposit will not be adjusted but for FIF rate is adjusted upward.

If you fix your money terminating it has a lot of penalty if at all it's allowed.

Again for FIF you can top up anytime and exit as in total redemption or partial redemption without penalty after 30 days.

Sincerely it's difficult in the money market space to have fixed deposit better than fixed income fund.

You can pay with a bank transfer using the following details:

Account name: UBA Nom First Trustees IBTC Money Market Fund
Account Number: 1023413552
Bank Name: UBA

Write your e-account number (C-004.....) as the description/narration or reference depending on the term your bank uses.

If you do the transfer before 12 noon, you get the same-day value and the interest otherwise it will be the next business day value and interest.

You can chat me up with the phone number on my signature if you need further clarification/assistance.
Thank you!

Why mutual funds?: Mutual funds have come a long way and it's no more a fancy investment for the rich like it used to be. More than a decade ago, I was walking the streets of GRA looking for mutual fund to buy and I hardly found one that would accept the meagre amount I had to offer. Today you can open mutual funds as low as 5k, some accept 1k.

You can use them as savings to preserve your funds or as investment to grow your wealth. With inflation rate at an all time high, having a high interest fund is the only sure way to build your finances beyond the crippling claws of inflation

Amazing thanks to those who used my ref link. You didn't have to but you did

For stanbic mmf. The management fee is 1.5% is charged on the principal or interest?
Re: Mutual Funds by sgtponzihater1(m): 4:50pm On Mar 23, 2023
Most management fees are charged on you total funds held including profit and principal, I assume Stanbic is the same.

The percentage on Stanbic IBTC website, for MMF, is effective yield so it's estimating your profit even after management fee is taken.

Hopefully players Soon with lower fees will likely come along, and smart investors will change course. Stanbic index funds have less management fees as they are passively managed, if you are considering long term stock based funds.

Don't leave your money idle in the bank, it increases your negative returns.

Get better returns as you invest in the Stanbic IBTC MMF for 9.12% as of today and the SFS Fixed income fund for 11.05%.

There is an opportunity for re-investment (Compounding) of your returns as long as you wish or you can opt for a monthly payment of returns.

Hi Emma,
I hope you are well. I have few queries and I would be glad if u have a minute to respond.
1. Are there any MMF investment that guarantee a specify rate.
2. If I choose to re invest on 1,000,000 investment on SFS Fixed income fund at the rate of 11.05% what will be my returns in 5 years.
Thank you for your time.

Good day @Owoblowblow,
I'm very well thank you. I hope you are too.

1. No. All MMF are valued daily because of the variations on the underlying assets. But the variation is not volatile like equities, interest is guaranteed ie investors will always have interest added to their invested capital anytime.

Rate is relatively stable especially the fixed income category of mutual funds like SFS FIF.

2. You will have 688,856.7517

A= P(1+R/100)raised to power 5
CI = A - P

With the following assumption that
1 rate remain 11.05 in 5years
2. You reinvested the interest for the 5 years
3. The 1m was a lump sum not contributed at any interval.

3. No addition of funds or partial redemption.

You can chat me up if you need further clarification.

Hello House,

Please, has anybody had any redemption issues wit Stanbic IBTC mutual funds in the last few weeks? I did a redemption over one week ago and after the funds were not credited into my account, I called them after 48 hours. They claim the transfer to my account failed and they are working on it. Everyday, I get text messages saying they are working on it and it is due to pressure on the payment platform. I do not know what that means. Calling them twice in the last few days has done nothing to resolve the issue. I am not sure if this is a general issue.

Can anyone please advise if they have had any such issues recently?

Appreciate the responses.

Personally, I would be careful investing in commercial papers when treasury bills and government bonds are available. It's higher risk investment, though the interest may sound enticing.

If the government can't pay, they can print more money, if private companies are broke, they declare bankruptcy

True!

If you must invest in Commercial papers I advise you stick to companies with good credit rating from good rating agencies like Augusto Co etc
