So Credit Cards (CCs) are one of the best Credit Tools you can have but yes, like every good thing, it does have its dangers.

Most folks here are trying to build Credit Score and to be very honest, CCs are the easiest way to do so. There are so many other ways, of course, and you should do them: Registering in the Electoral Register, Setting up Direct Debits for Utility Bills, Phone/SIM Contracts, etc but from experience since these are not Credit facilities, they may not boost your score as much as a CC.

The rules of CC usage are simple: ensure you pay at least the minimum balance (usually 10% of your usage as at the statement date). So if your cycle is 1st to 30th of every month, on the 30th, you get a statement saying you have used £2,000 and you are given a grace period (typically extra 14 to 23 days) to pay back 10% or more, and whatever balance is unpaid, interest will be charged to the card after the grace period. During this grace period, the next cycle has obviously started running. And the next month balance will sum of what you spent in the month, plus the unpaid balance from the previous month and the interest added. IF YOU DON'T PAY THIS MINIMUM, YOU HAVE DEFAULTED.

Now, the main reasons why CCs are a brilliant facility are evident:
1. Their Interest-free periods means you can use them without ever paying interests: to do this, you must pay everything in full as the interest only starts counting on the unpaid balance after the grace period. An exception is usually Cash Withdrawals, Interest on Cash Withdrawals start counting immediately. Another evil trick of Cash Withdrawal is usually that their interest is higher. There's another evil of Cash Withdrawals but it might be a little technical to explain in this post. Just avoid Cash Withdrawals if you don't want interest
2. CCs are revolving, meaning they are like Overdrafts, not Term Loans, so if I have a limit of £6k, when I spend it and repay, my full limit is re-instated, so I don’t need to re-apply (ever) unless I void the contract. 3. Rewards: Most CCs earn you Miles, Points, etc for usage and referrals.
4. Fees: Many CCs come with little or no extra fees to the Cardholder. I could go on and on.

So, pretty much, you can use your Debit Card for only Cash Withdrawal and use Cash for non-Card payments, while you use your CC for everything else and pay little or no interest while building your credit score.

Now, as beautiful as it sounds, in my 7 years as a Credit Card Product Manager, I have seen so many people wallow in heavy credit card debts. The truth is most humans are not just disciplined enough to handle such an allowance of funds. They deep their hands into it at the slightest opportunity and end up living above their means. CCs are very addictive so don't get a CC if you love to spend, the CC provider would love you and keep increasing your limit and you may land in a gloomy state: you earn just £2k monthly and are given a £6k CC, as you spend and spend, they keep increasing the limit and before you know it, you have a £20k CC fully spent on that Funeral you sponsored in Oshogbo and that trip to Turkey. How will you pay You break the card and start paying back £600 monthly, but that covers only the interest and the amount is NOT reducing every month. You realize you are stuck and have fallen for our trap and that is how we make our interest income and cover for those who are using the card wisely.

I'm sorry this post was really long, I even had to cut this short because I could go on and on about the benefits of CC (purchase protection, chargeback, acceptance, etc), the financially wise know this and hardly ever use Debit Cards but enjoy the benefits of a CC. The financially foolish use CCs to have fun for a few years or months and spend the rest of their lives as slaves to it. The choice is yours!

Whereas you desire minting some Charlies and whereas you seek pathways in the YouKay, be it noted that In the UK, you have two main categories, further split into many subs.
The practicing: Solicitor (typically interface with public) and the Barristers (mainly representation). Some then get on to be judicial.
The other are the non practicing mostly in your corporates (M&A, international finance ...) and legal depts. Some are into compliance, eg Registry in university, GRC in corporates and consulting, and mortgage institutions. The pathway is broad.

In the circumstances, your lack of sufficient particularities and cause of action, your post stands down. All rise!! 😂
PS: I'm not a practicing Solicitor (Attorney) nor Barrister (Advocate). I'm only conversant in law and a PG in law. Above is not a binding legal advisory as contemplated in law

As long as she doesn't get referred to the PMI port medical inspector.
(Personal view) if her former TB certificate was issue (without sputum test, that is no abnormalities), she should just get a new one. She need not booked I guess.

Thanks for this eye opener, God bless you Sir, even though the person in this scenario was a lecturer in Nigeria. To pratice as a solicitor here, she has been advise to do SQE and SQE2 which cost a fortune, we are looking for alternatives that cost less or nothing sef to fall in. Which path is almost straight forward with no special cert exam . Just with Bsc,Msce and teaching experience of almost 5years. How true is it that you can’t become a lecturer here without PhD?

TB cert just needs to be valid for the application process. She doesn't need to get a new one

Please is there a way I can generate a share code without BRP? I was told I won’t be given BRP due to the fact my visa was issued in less than 6 months to main applicant visa expiry date. Right now I need share code to give to employers to prove my right to work. Thanks

Sorry o, I was away.

Basically Agency jobs pay more than normal NHS shift but you are not entitled to paid leave or holidays. I also don't think they have health insurance like the normal NHS would provide.

It's like a person who books a bolt ride from Ikeja to costain vs Using BRT for the same route, the charges would be different.

The fact remains, that you start earning money in this UK after ILR, because all those restrictions on how much hours you can put in would be non-existent.

Just keep your records clean and wait in hope!!!!

I came alone on student visa October 2021, started working in social care May 2022, my husband and children joined me November 2022, i applied for IHS refund for myself and family, I got paid but my family application was rejected, I was told to reapply for them after 6 months because they need to have stayed in U.K. for 6 months before applying, though I know someone who UKVI refunded her immediately her spouse got his visa, so it depends on the person handling your but am sure you won’t have any challenge get your refund.

I'm in agreement with you. Post the 2011 TB screening review, focus has shifted from the on-entry screening to the pre-entry screening we have now. Hence, the primary purpose of the TB certificate is for the visa application.
Nonetheless, when faced with an thorough or zealous ECO at border control, would it not make sense to avoid long delay or possible referral to the PMI.

To practice, there's no way around it. Not now, not in the near future.
With 5yrs university teaching experience, Let the fellow gives the Associate Fellowship a shot. See https://www.advance-he.ac.uk/fellowship#categories

Regarding lectureship and doctorate, let's put it this way.
One can become a university lecturer without a PhD. However, it's a tall order (a bi na impossicant Dem dey call am)
Nonetheless, in some discipline, it is relatively possible. I know some that were recruited even from their home country without a doctorate: one was in multimedia.
In law, like most social sciences and humanities, your PhD rules! However, even in law, being a practicing Solicitor/Barrister and handling landmark cases (not necessarily high profile), one might be able to get lectureship. For direct recruitment from outside, I wouldn't know. For in-country, #possible.

Which path is possible. The post and earlier posts referred to, should give ideas.

Hello People,
I have an appointment for 9am tomorrow at the Nigerian House in London for passport renewal. The last time my husband went, he said they didn’t follow appointments, rather, it was first come first served. Please what time do you think it’s wise for me to get there tomorrow morning, as I want to be one of the first persons to get there considering that I’m going alone with 2 children.

Thank you
