Undocumented is NOT the same as an overstayed VISA who IS a documented fellow.

Your desire to lump all as one without nuance shows why you alway use the Mexicans as examples.

Mexico & other border countries can walk into America undocumented.

A Nigerian student from 6000 miles who is a postgraduate student who has stayed less than 6 months would not typically be undocumented.

You're making a tangent.

I'm NOT a Peter Obi supporter. Didn't even vote for him. Again, you're projecting.

Stay on point.

Show me a Nigerian today who walked into the US (like a Mexican) without a VISA got admission into a US university and studied & I'll believe you.

I thought he said he's in New Jersey? Rent of $700+ per month isn't too high in New Jersey. That's only normal. If you understand how expensive New Jersey is. Even average apartment in Midwest states, you pay up to or more than that, and for that for an apartment that's not close to school at all. Apartment in the $700 range can have shuttle to convey you to school. If it's really close to school, expect to pay in the $1200 to $1500 per month. And this will be on the high side for places with better opportunities like New Jersey, New York, California, Texas etc etc
What happened to TA/RA via his dept? 700usd is quite high for a student.

BTW, I schooled in NY years back. New Jersey was quite close.

College Admission Policies
Undocumented students may incorrectly assume that they cannot legally attend college in the United States. However, there is no federal or state law that prohibits the admission of undocumented immigrants to U.S. colleges, public or private.

Lol..talking from internet tiktok expo with no real practical experiences.
Per bonafide zNaija student, he cant be an illegal immigrant. Take your L and admit that this area is above your tiktok knowledge to avoid further exposure of ignorance on this matter lol

You ladies are wired to reasoning the same way...!! And it's not even an insult.

It's not a criminal issue. It's only a civil matter. The police might not want to get involved. That's why he should go to a small claim court. That woman need to appear in court . She didn't do the right thing at all

His deposit duh!! What else could it be?

It's the same concept.

You Nigerians dont understand that you can be assertive and firm without being rude.

You don't even know what you're talking about. The OP's case is civil, not criminal. No police officers.
I noticed how you've been trying to make some guys understand what you meant. You don't need to. This is a Nigerian forum; it's emotion, fake propaganda and "feels good" over logic. This case is a civil matter and the police will rather treat it as such. The case is best refer to a civil court. And yes, people hold on to the "he disrespect me and tarnish my name cuz I owe him, so I won't pay him cuz of this". While this is a bad attitude and really shitty, it doesn't dispute they fact that people do it.
Re: My Nasty Experience With Nigerian In New Jersey by Everbryte: 4:22pm On Apr 02, 2023
Sorry about your experience.
You are dealing with a con woman who needed an urgent 1000 box; you were not firm/affirmative in your communication, by using words like maybe/I think, & appealing tone in a purely business transaction where you are committing money puts you out as "naive" to a waiting predator.
She probably wanted to lease the room to you but in the course of communication felt she could take advantage of a "naive" jjc & instead rent it out to someone else.
If you are there legally, report her to the police for criminal investigation and have her pay for every damn item that you have dropped there.

In all business transactions, appear very firm, use words that command power and send fears, even if you are down to earth & very nice. dont let anyone feel he/she can take you for a ride or get away with anything. Approach business as business irrespective of who is involved.

Controlla123:
Like, who the hell does that!!! WHO FORCED YOU TO PUT UP THE PLACE FOR RENT IN THE FIRST INSTANCE??

DIDNT YOU THINK ABOUT YOUR DAUGHTER INITIALLYhuh

WHY DID SHE HAVE TO WAIT TILL THE VERY DAY I WAS GOING TO MOVE INhuh

How I was able to get a new place that very day was only GOD! The problem now is how to get my funds back and my other stuffs. After getting a new place, I texted her to send my money asap that I need it to pay for my new place since she no longer want to give out her place.

This evil woman still wanted to frustrate me, and didn't even want to refund my deposit

That's what I've been trying to explain, but I've been insulted left and right.

1Sharon:
You messed by getting rude to her. Now she'll cling onto that and use it as an excuse to not refund your deposit.

If there's a way to leave a review do that.

Edit. Here's the logic behind my comment:

Have you ever watched crime documentaries before? Even detectives know not to get rude to rape and murder suspects at the start.
In interviews they ease them into it. And they eventually snitch and implicate themselves. They pretend to be their friend and make them comfortable to open up.

Same concept here. Same concept with kidnappers and their victims. Complementing and pretending to befriend your attacker helps keep you alive.

Being rude to that thief of a landlady is understandable. But it's just gonna give her an avenue to refuse refunding him.

I know it's hard to understand because nigerians are easily led their instincts and emotions.
My brother who is a lawyer would say there is no crime abusing anybody including police unless you bully them. He stressed that you should not beat anybody because they abuse you rather use d same energy to abuse the person back

To be honest, I don't want to take her with me. I'd rather take someone else. She's has to take care of business here in naija. She's the only one I trust with my investments.

To my greatest surprise, on the day I was supposed to move in, she said she was going to drop the key at the entrance, and later, she said she will be home soon that I should give her some hours. I had already packed my stuffs, ordered uber and stuffs my belongings inside, only for me to get a message from Mrs Rita stating some gibberish excuse that she is not putting up the room for rent again bacause her daughter was coming back and she might cause some trouble. I initially thought i interpretted the message wrong, but after re-reading the text, I knew that I was dealing with a hopeless, and morally dysfunctional woman.
Between 24th January and 31st January, u didn't hear anything from her, only to pull up at the door of her house saying "I'm here oh!"

Stop talking from the abundance of your sahara desert of ignorance. An F1 in status with an expired visa is still a legal immigrant.
Immigration is on the exclusive, so a local police authority does not care about your immigration status before attending to your case

Ok. How about seeking a pro-bono lawyer or going to small claims court?

Pro-bono will look at the severity of your case.. and$100 doesnt qualify. Small claims might even take $150 in serving the respondent and paperwork.. lol. Let him take his L..
