My Nasty Experience With Nigerian In New Jersey by Controlla123: 7:47pm On Mar 31, 2023 |
I had a very nasty experience with a Nigerian in New Jersey recently. I recently just moved to the United States last Fall for my graduate school in New Jersey. Upon getting to the United States, I stayed with a friend that I have known from university in Nigeria so as to find my bearing as well as deal with transition. After styaing with the friend for a couple of months, I felt it was time to get a place to stay so as to be more independent and face my challenges. 61 Likes 10 Shares |

This is where the problem begins, I thought everyone, at least every nigerian in the , everyone in the United States are straighforward, honest. To my greatest surprise, Some nigerians are genetically wired to be evil-minded, irrational and dishonest. For my House-hunt, I used Facebook market place because that it were i can get cheap and affordable room to rent, and i can also see the person that i am dealing with as well. After a long search, I was able to get a place for 700$ per month which was quite on the high side but that was the cheapest in that zone. The person renting out the place was a female Nigerian in her late fourties. Upon checking out the room, I felt the palce was worth the price so I agreeed to take the place. The rental, Mrs Rita seemed calm when we met and she explained that she only wnats to rent out the room to a Nigerian because she felt she would be more comfortable living with nigerians. I told her that I want to take she place, and she said I need to pay a security deposit (which is usually the same amount as the monthly rent), which would serve as a sort of assurance/seal the deal. 63 Likes 14 Shares |

Since, I wont be moving into the place till the start of Feb (which was two weeks away at that time), I was reluctant to pay the deposit early, she agreed to that, but as the weekend draws by, she started calling to check on me, and indirectly ask for the deposit. After pestering me for three days back-back-back, I decided to pay the deposit. 32 Likes 3 Shares |

The next week After paying the deposit, I asked for a date to come collect the key so I can start moving stuffs in before fully moving in in February, At first, she said she was going to get it ready before the end of the week, which she changed her mind after the day elapsed. after posting me for days, she said I would get the key on the day I was going to move in bacause she is busy with work and all. 24 Likes 12 Shares

Having paid the rent, I also ordered new mattress and other utilities directly to the apartment, that way, i would save me more cost of moving things. However, things did not turn out as planned, as I have already spend over $1000 for the security deposit, and other utilities delivered to the new address. 22 Likes 9 Shares

To my greatest surprise, on the day I was supposed to move in, she said she was going to drop the key at the entrance, and later, she said she will be home soon that I should give her some hours. I had already packed my stuffs, ordered uber and stuffs my belongings inside, only for me to get a message from Mrs Rita stating some gibberish excuse that she is not putting up the room for rent again bacause her daughter was coming back and she might cause some trouble. I initially thought i interpretted the message wrong, but after re-reading the text, I knew that I was dealing with a hopeless, and morally dysfunctional woman. 90 Likes 10 Shares

Like, who the hell does that!!! WHO FORCED YOU TO PUT UP THE PLACE FOR RENT IN THE FIRST INSTANCE?? DIDNT YOU THINK ABOUT YOUR DAUGHTER INITIALLY WHY DID SHE HAVE TO WAIT TILL THE VERY DAY I WAS GOING TO MOVE IN How I was able to get a new place that very day was only GOD! The problem now is how to get my funds back and my other stuffs. After getting a new place, I texted her to send my money asap that I need it to pay for my new place since she no longer want to give out her place. This evil woman still wanted to frustrate me, and didn't even want to refund my deposit 77 Likes 11 Shares |

Controlla123: You are part of the problem. Na this mentality de make some idiots create bad name for Nigerians. Give her a reasonable date to refund you and tell her you will have to report her to the police if she no refund you on the stated date. On that date, go and report her with immediate alacrity. What if it's a white man she scams next? Na so they go say all Nigerians are fraudster because of some few elements. 447 Likes 32 Shares |

You messed by getting rude to her. Now she'll cling onto that and use it as an excuse to not refund your deposit. If there's a way to leave a review do that. Edit. Here's the logic behind my comment: Have you ever watched crime documentaries before? Even detectives know not to get rude to rape and murder suspects at the start. In interviews they ease them into it. And they eventually snitch and implicate themselves. They pretend to be their friend and make them comfortable to open up. Same concept here. Same concept with kidnappers and their victims. Complementing and pretending to befriend your attacker helps keep you alive. Being rude to that thief of a landlady is understandable. But it's just gonna give her an avenue to refuse refunding him. I know it's hard to understand because nigerians are easily led their instincts and emotions. 22 Likes 8 Shares |

1Sharon: Lol being rude to you is no excuse not to refund money for service you didn’t provide. No matter who how he insulted her, doesn’t change the fact that her refusal to provide a refund is fraudulent in nature. @OP report her to the authorities asap, don’t care what happens to her. I am sure this is not her first time of doing this. I must confess most Nigerians are evil-minded. I as a Nigerian deal with other Nigerians at arm’s length. Even up to transactions with family, we go sign agreements, no cash, electronic transfers, clearly defined expectations etc me that hate stories that touch. 180 Likes 13 Shares |
