yeah I was even being generous when I said that over 90 percent. Truly no white man in the UK wants any black man over the age of 50 sitting in his office or his establishment . At that age you are like hard to train plus also the racism factor. So in the UK as a black man if you are over 50 the only job you can get is security work . That's the only time they want you in their office and mostly at night when they don't have to interact with you. So truly it's over 99 percent of Nigerian men over the age of 50 in the UK are security guards. The only way you are doing good in the UK over the age of 50 is if you are a medical doctor. That's it.
I heard security guards are well paid in UK because they do a lot of overtime.

brother, even medical doctors are not well paid in the UK talk less of security. Let me break it down for you. They pay about 15 pounds per hour if you are in London and cheaper outside. Let's say you can do 60 hours a week that is 900 pounds a week or let's say 3600 a month . It appeArs like a lot if you convert to naira. But you live in London and don't spend naira. Ok so you are at a higher tax bracket which is 40 percent so you take home like 2700 a month. It's London so your rent is like say 1000 if say you are single and no family and managing a small one bedroom. So that 1700 left. Council tax is like 150. You left with 1550. Let's say your utilities 300 a month you have 1250. Transport lets say 200. That's 1050. Phone and internet lets say 100. That's 950. Feeding let's say 400. That's 550 left. Clothing and haircut and miscellaneous like eating out and sending to naija etc and buying naija foods let's say like 300 a month. You have 250 left. Young guy you want trip woman to movies or go pub to drink pints of beer etc let's say 200 a month. You have 50 pounds left. Now this is calculation for single man. If you have wife and children may GOD help you is your cAse lol

Lots who have jobs with good govt agencies are japaing without tidying up at their offices, I don't understand why a level 16-17 officer will just vanish without any paper work, at least apply for sabbatical leave.

Now I know why this topic/thread was removed in the travel section. One of the moderators is a guy who doesn't like this sort of hard truths and realities about obodo-oyibo. He will argue with you until he is blue in the face. 🤣

You are not pro-japa like he is either, so be prepared to have more of your topics/threads deleted in that section, until you fall in line and start painting a rosy picture of a fabulous life overseas

Is this breakdown and analysis accurate or are you intoxicated on Naija wine and giving us stats from 3 years ago when you were in the UK? 3 years is not a long time but I have always had the impression that doctors, nurses and healthcare workers in general, were the most well paid and affluent.
yeah I know the guy too and should power be put in the hand of a person like that ? That's a mental illness. To be put in a position of authority and you fail to be objective. That's a dictator. Let's thank God he was only given power in an online blog that most humans don't know about but ermm no Nigerian wine here lol yeah those are very accurate . Well healthcare workers have great job security and availability but that's the only advantage. Like you can get jobs easily. But they don't pay well. Are you not aware that healthcare workers are on strike in the UK because there wages are too low ?

I am aware of the strike from watching news but the in-thing for most of our migrating friends and acquaintances was to study nursing or public health once there.

And the massive exodus of our own healthcare workers to the UK, some overheard conversations at work made me think it was well paid. That guy/moderator has issues and a combative nature I swear.
for the easy availability not the pay. also its a little more dignified than stacking shelves in a supermarket or warehouse job or wiping old peoples yansh

Your Egbon no position himself well. If his goal was to start in the same field he was in Nigeria, he ought to have prepared himself with international Certifications to lend credence to his experience and skillsets or even gone to get the Canadian education. They are extremely biased about foreign experience and education even after verifying your education through their approved boards. I know a young man that was in banking IT security in first bank in naija, guy's first job here was in same field earning 150k/annually. That's because he had all the experience with international Certifications before landing here.

Besides, the most successful people here are the Asians who just do businesses and cooperate with one another in turning funds around. 5yrs in, they not only have successful businesses, they also have stability and citizenship.

While some had tales of woes, a lot more people have tales of yea! We cant all leave naija though cos who will remain?

My friend who relocated to Sunderland 6 months ago analysed to me that Japa to UK is still better than Nigeria. That He saves 500 pounds monthly after bills ( which is about 500k naira) compared to me doing white collar job and earning 300k naira salary in Nigeria. He does minimum wage job in Sunderland @10 pounds per hour and on dependent visa while his wife is on student visa.

I don't know if he is lying that he saves 500 pounds monthly cause that looks good while doing menial jobs in Sunderland. Compared to white collar job in Lagos that pays 300k for the whole month. My brain has been curious if he is saying the truth or not.

Some japa stories intrigue me because they are done by people who were doing reasonably well in Naija and not suffering at all. They never let you in on their plans but once they get there, you start receiving text messages about their relocation and texts soliciting prayers for their success in the new land.

I don't have a problem with being left in the dark about their relocation plans or praying for them, but don't try to turn me into a prayer warrior on top of your issues. One friend is in the habit of constantly badgering you about prayers, in the course of a conversation she will say stuff like - that is one more thing you should be praying for, for me, as if you owe her a duty of prayers.

Another whose hubby worked as a senior manager in a good firm and she in a federal agency, with a thriving cake business on the side japa-ed too. She took a leave of absence at work but is actively job searching in the UK now. When she mentioned the leave of absence, I asked her, do you honestly think your hubby will let you return to that job and leave him with 3 kids in the UK? You better concentrate on your new life there and finding a job because your old life as you knew it is over.

And boy was her cake business good, she even diversified into pastries, small chops and a bit of chinese cuisine. The things we give up for this japa dream ehn, I hope and pray it all works out for good. I read online that in our quest for something better we don't take the time to enjoy the good things we have anymore, we are always fixated on something better.

Their stories are truly intriguing. This japa movement has really ruined relationships between Nigerians. Couples breaking up, thinking they can do better than each other, friends becoming enemies. I just listen to them and see how unreasonable and paranoid Nigerians can be.

They don't let people in on their plans because they fear evil eye. But if you don't trust friends, why have them around you and then turn around to expect well wishes?

People who were comfortable in Nigeria with multiple houses and cars, got rid of it all, just for greed.
As the saying goes if it ain't broke don't fix it.

But then what happened with Yul Edochie's son made me rethink a little. The rich in Nigeria still feel insecurity. If Yul's son was in a developed country, a seizure won't have killed him.

alright let's do the math on your lying friend. 10 pounds per hour at 40 hours a week is 1600 a month. Tax will leave him with 1200 a month . Rent in Sunderland maybe 500 a month he has 700 left. Utilities like 300. He has 400 left. Council tax 150. He has 250 left. Phone and internet. 100. He has 150 left.

I haven't added feeding and this your friend has only 150 left. I put it to you that your friend does not even make enough to feed himself or get a haircut or buy clothes. He will be one of those Nigerians over there who go to Salvation Army charity or church charity to get free food because they can't feed tbemself. Almost 40 percent of Nigerians in the UK cannot afford food. If you go to the charity section of every church where they give free food to the hungry it's full of Nigerian families.

Thank you so much for the enlightenment. But if 40 percent of Nigerians in the UK can't afford good food, how are they able to send money (pounds) to their relatives in Nigeria and to help them to build houses?

brother despite the hardship and suffering in Nigeria are people in Nigeria not building houses ? Even vulcaniser in naija is building bungalow in his village. So the answer to your question is a few people will take extreme measures like for example you can find 10 naija guys sharing a 2 bedroom flat. Some sleep on floor, some sleep on sofa, some sleep in the kitchen etc just so they can have small rent so they can save to build house in Nigeria but these are guys who have dedicated to suffer in London because they know they are coming back home. But the question is ? How many people want to live like that in London ? You want to use toilet but there are like 4 housemates on the queue waiting to use it before you. These are the extreme measures you have to take in London to sAve good money or to build a house. But also let me say most of those houses belong to criminals too. Many of our people are into selling drugs and Bank fraud. So it's under these conditions you can thrive . Crime or sharing house with 10 guys lol

where are you getting this idea that I lived in Canada ? I went there for 2 months and toured everywhere in Toronto. Mississauga, York, etobicoke, the famous bloor and yonge etc but I myself was in a Howard Johnson hotel in York. And seeing etobicoke is a slum is the point that there are slums everywhere and by the wAy I am in Nigeria now. For 3 yeRs now. Oh so you live in Calgary ? Where 5 white skinheads almost lynched a black guy to deAth ? The video is on YouTube. You better protect your son out there in that skinhead zone .lol. Hey seniors may have all that over there but they don't have a life. That's why they go around talking to themselves because family has abandoned them. Old people over there are just cast awAy. No community. This why they all go mad. Too much loneliness and isolation. And ermm who you think building all these houses in Nigeria ? People abroad because they can't wait to return home . Stop playing. If I gave sisioge 1 million dollars today you would pack your apoti right now and get on the next thing smoking back to Nigeria. Don't lie ooo cheesy cheesy cheesy cheesy cheesy

From my experience the term good food is a broad subject. They can afford to eat definitely, just not the healthiest of food. Some are stuck with junk food or easy to access meals. The only downside of these meals is weight gain. You can save up by living in a small apartment and minimizing your expenses. Probably go to the pub once a week and stick to one pint of beer. If you are single get yourself a working girl so you don't have to foot all bills. Visit the flea market or donation centers to get close. Might visit the soup kitchens from time to time.

Personal income tax
Corporate tax
Capital gain tax
Council tax
Road tax
Value added tax

Everything about UK is tax.

Never been to the UK but I work as a tax consultant from here and I’ve heard client cried on phone lamenting how she’s expected to pay tax despite bills taking a huge chunk of her money.

This was a woman that works day in day out.

Told her, if you don’t file tax return for your company, whether you trade or not, once it’s due, you’ll get a penalty grin grin
