My simple advice to the average investor on NGX is to have a simple plan of thinking long term, buying good quality stocks that pay dividends regularly and reinvesting the dividend. Buy more when you can add more funds. You would have grown a good portfolio over the years. Be disciplined with reinvesting your dividend.

An investor that bought 1000 units of GTBank@N5.10 at the IPO in 2001, would have shares worth about N170k now and received over N172k as dividends to date. An investor that bought Presco at about N10 around 2008, would have it at N150 per share today (not recognizing dividends paid o).

Please leave the complex strategies for those that might know how, until you learn better. They don't always win.

Hope you can say the same thing for OANDO, SKYE and other Companies that have been delisted or scrapped? Trading on shares with good fundamentals remain the best strategy.

Exactly what I wanted to say. In this market, you need to constantly monitor and rebalance your portfolio based on fundamentals.

You can add bank PHB, oceanic and Evans medical on that list grin

You can add yours grin

Good quality stocks are of companies with good fundamentals. Semantics. I can't put Oando (since acquisition as Unipetrol) and Skye in that category. It's not about price or visibility.

Of course companies with good fundamentals can hit the rocks with time, but the signs would be out there a long time before. Hence the investor has to be on the outlook.

Please note I was advising on "long term investing" and not "trading". Any stock at all can be traded.

Please can someone explain to me what is happening. I thought the nse is first come first served. I placed a sell order early this morning. After some time I got notice of few sold as partial fill.Since then large quantities of the same shares are being sold at the same market price I put but my order is still on the little initially partial sales. Why is my own not being sold .And the sales I am seeing are not crossed dealings

TRANSCORP
I've just been watching the mvmt of this stock and 2 or 3 other ones since market opens.......
- Despite markdown, it's been showing strength.....
- Offer more than bid, but still getting attention...
- Over 89M done in transactions btw 1.35 & 1.43....
- Some info seems to be driving the interest .....
* Could it be because of the new incoming admin of the president elect?
* Is Tony planning/commencing share buy back or it's the financials?
* Is the time for Transcorp to move approaching or just the initial gragra?
Events of things will throw more light on it in coming days or months sha.

NB: Not any form of advice

Maybe too.
The huge cross deals of yesterday was said to be about 3.8% of the total shares outstanding.....
TRANSCORP just needs to do something about the OS cos it's not expected to stay static at present price.

Oga you dont want dividend?
QD is Friday 14th o. smiley

Those sales you saw would probably be crossings from one customer's account to another.......it's just passing thru the search engine.
My own little understanding of it.

What's os, please?
Outstanding Shares......Total number of shares of a company available for trading in market.
Innclusive of those ones held by institutional investors.

For instance, Transcorp's OS is currently 40.65Billion...
This was noted to be huge and somehow affecting the share price from moving up and gaining significantly........because the number of shares for Free Float is 39.65Billion or thereabout.

Free float are the ones available or can be accessible for trading on the secondary market, which is the Stock Exchange.....

Thats my little understanding of it. smiley

what is driving ote$?

merger of ughelli; Afam (Transcorp power) and Geregu power in sight?

bidding war likely to follow? (30-40% probability, while the shareholding structure looks similar to FBNH ( large fragmentation) it is not exactly the same (sizeable large chunk circa 10-20% still with a single person (TOE), which is not same scenario with FBNH).

why did TOE not pick the chunk up to protect his interest (no plausible answer)

or is Ote$ exploring the Cocacola Nigeria strategy? i.e. maintain a hold on a competitor in other to influence decision making in the competitor to your advantage (Cocacola Nigeria vs Limca saga / Elizade vs Briscoe motor saga)

Interesting days ahead

The moves may be because of the new power bill that was signed.
I heard Adeleke is also expanding Omotosho’s capacity to double.
