The Lagos state Emergency Management Agency LASEMA has said that no life was lost in the building that collapsed on 1st Avenue in Highbrow Banana Island on Wednesday evening, April 12, IGBERETV reports.

In a statement released, the agency said the building collapsed as a result of a truck that ran into it. The statement read;

''Situation report on the collapsed building at 1st Avenue, Banana Island, Ikoyi

Upon arrival of the LASEMA Response Team at the scene of the incident, a six storey building under construction was found to have collapsed. Information gathered revealed that the building collapsed as a result of a truck that ran into the building.

Fortunately, no loss of life, however, efforts are ongoing to reconstruct the building to ground zero so as to forestall any secondary incident.

Happy to learn that nobody died.

I wonder the kind of buildings they build nowadays that a single truck could bring it down. Seems like the truck driver is in debt now.

This is good news but how did the people on the building top manage to escape unhurt? 🤔

When a big man is involved in Nigeria, it becomes a case of the more you look, the less you see. Lips sealed.

Don't mind them. The owner must be very influential for them to swiftly bring up such a narrative. No life was lost, but what are they recovering, building materials?

The truck driver was properly on stress test of the building to prevent future occurrence that would have claimed lives.

Nice to know that no lives were lost.

Now a lot of people must understand 2 things about Nigerian real estate developers:

1. They usually believe they know more than civil/structural engineers and many of them refuse to take professional advice, thus leading to structural failure of building projects.

2. They could be very greedy when it comes to paying for professional services that are required as part of the prerequisites for building such as soil test and proper foundation design, some even go ahead to deviate from the original design of the building and add extra floors, which also leads to collapse.

The building regulatory body in Lagos, LASBCA, must ensure that all building projects meet these requirements. The Gerard Road, Ikoyi building collapse that happened last year, the place had been closed before the late owner went to seek another approval from them and continued the suicidal project, leading to loss of lives.

And please dear civil engineers, once your clients refuse to listen to you, please do not hesitate to hands-off their project and report the case to the building authority with evidence, just to protect your future.
