Hmmm, no life lost? Have they done excavation to determine that no lives were lost? Excavation of that rubble and rescue operation will take well over a week and with d number of people seen on d building from d video, it would be d miracle of d century for no lives to be lost. Very hasty conclusion imho, possibly a cover up. The alleged cause of d collapse is also very unlikely, how can a vehicle accident bring down a 6-storey building? Proper investigation needs to be carried out by independent bodies asap, else we'd keep repeating these tragedies, d 21-storey building collapse in same ikoyi is still fresh in our memory, no lesson learnt obviously. Avoidable tragedies like this should be unheard of in highbrow areas like ikoyi.

The Lagos state Emergency Management Agency LASEMA has said that no life was lost in the building that collapsed on 1st Avenue in Highbrow Banana Island on Wednesday evening, April 12, IGBERETV reports.

In a statement released, the agency said the building collapsed as a result of a truck that ran into it. The statement read;

Lagos State lacks the capacity to enforce standards in building construction due to corruption, they should stop approving building plans that are more than 3 floors.

You can not enforce standard! It’s impossible
It’s just that these engineers lack integrity and there is nothing Government can do about it than to impound the asset of any company that own any building that collapse, auction it and send the owner and the team to long term in prison

Nice to know that no lives were lost.

Now a lot of people must understand 2 things about Nigerian real estate developers:

1. They usually believe they know more than civil/structural engineers and many of them refuse to take professional advice, thus leading to structural failure of building projects.

2. They could be very greedy when it comes to paying for professional services that are required as part of the prerequisites for building such as soil test and proper foundation design, some even go ahead to deviate from the original design of the building and add extra floors, which also leads to collapse.

The building regulatory body in Lagos, LASBCA, must ensure that all building projects meet these requirements. The Gerard Road, Ikoyi building collapse that happened last year, the place had been closed before the late owner went to seek another approval from them and continued the suicidal project, leading to loss of lives.

And please dear civil engineers, once your clients refuse to listen to you, please do not hesitate to hands-off their project and report the case to the building authority with evidence, just to protect your future.
Oga calm down let's not be too quick to judge. Joe Faraday is one one the biggest construction coys in the island and banana island. I have personally visited their sites and can vouch for competence. Civil engineers or builders, they have them plenty. The person we should blame for this mishap is the structural engineer that designed the substructure way to the superstructure. The strength and stability was not tested from what I can see.. Moreso, our engineers of nowadays are quick to cut cost without regards to the rigidity of such project. The Structural engineer who is a consultant and the development control in charge of supervisory roles should be blamed solely for this and not the company. I rest my case.

If you don't have first-hand engineering/construction knowledge, my comment isn't for you. I don't understand what you've written cos you're now claiming it's the structural engineers fault.

Do you think civil engineers are different from structural engineer's? Do you even know what civil engineering means? Civil engineers go by the title civil/structural engineers and what they study in school is civil engineering.

Stop writing things you don't know and stop embarrassing yourself in the process.

What of the truck driver and those on top of the building, did they disappear

I don't even believe in the truck thing, let's see the recovered truck first.

What money cannot do in Nigeria does not exist.

It's obvious you aren't aware that there are different branches of civil engineering. How many Nigerians practice structural engineering if I may ask? You thinks it's all about casting foundation? Companies like Joe Faraday, Megamound,Siemens, Cappa de Alberto, Bruneli and the likes all use foreign Structural Design coys yet they still have defects every now and then so what are you talking about? Stop your I too know attitude Oga.

When developed countries are testing their building against the shock of earthquakes, Nigeria just a single truck brought a whole 6 storey building down

The cost of the land in banana island won't allow them to give the true picture of fatality,so that government won't take possession. But seems they re unaware of the video in circulation,I believe when they see it,the story will change.

Let's check first who owns the Project, when you know who the owner is, you will understand the story that will come from it.

This does not add up at all.
More to this than meet the eyes...

Is it that some of you just like bad news? Yes, the structure had construction workers on the topmost floor when it collapsed; it's very possible that they survived the disaster but not without injuries. When the agency saddled with emergency response in the state says no lives were lost why can't we just thank God for his mercies upon those workers instead of looking for dead bodies where there are none?

Are we to believe this is the truck that brought down the building? ... a truck not covered by rubble? The rubble alone tells a story of the quality of material used in the construction..... water the rubble and spread some seeds ... they will grow.
