His confession and Mercy

They that call upon the name of the Lord shall be saved.
If you believe that Jesus is Lord and confess with your mouth, thou shall be saved.

I think you are adding you own interpretation to the bible. You went on an elaborate journey to bring confusion to yourself.

jesusjnr2020:
What Saved The Thief On The Cross?

It wasn't just faith but good works that saved the thief on the cross.

He didn't just put his faith in Jesus and pray for Jesus to remember him as many erroneously think. He did much more than that!

Luke 23:39-41 (KJV)

And one of the malefactors which were hanged railed on him, saying, If thou be Christ, save thyself and us.
But the other answering rebuked him, saying, Dost not thou fear God, seeing thou art in the same condemnation?
And we indeed justly; for we receive the due reward of our deeds: but this man hath done nothing amiss.

This was what the thief said before he told Jesus to remember him. He defended and stood up for Jesus against the other thief while on the cross.

He rebuked him saying, "do you not fear God" because of what he said to Jesus.

Is that not a good work he did for Jesus on the cross?

Remember, this was the loneliest moment in the life of Jesus.

His disciples who He said He would reward with a kingdom because they were there with Him in His temptations, had all forsaken Him and fled, so they weren't there with Him during the moment of the greatest temptation He ever faced. Luke 22:28-30, Mark 14:50.

Worst still, His Father whose presence Jesus valued more than anything else, of who He once said, had never left Him, had now also forsaken Him.

John 8:29 (KJV)

And he that sent me is with me: the Father hath not left me alone; for I do always those things that please him.

Matthew 27:46 (KJV)

And about the ninth hour Jesus cried with a loud voice, saying, Eli, Eli, lama sabachthani? that is to say, My God, my God, why hast thou forsaken me?

So this was the same moment on the cross that the thief had risen to the defence of Jesus when He had no one else there to back Him up or bear witness of Him, so was that not a good work the thief on the cross did for Jesus?

It wasn't just a good work but a great and strategic work, and the thief himself appeared to know that he had done an important work for Jesus, hence the language he used.

He said "Lord remember me..." Luke 23:42 (KJV)

He could have said "Lord save me" or "Lord help me" but he said "Lord remember me".

It reminds me of what Joseph said to the cup bearer of Pharoah after he interpreted his dream.

There has to be something to be remembered for, and for the thief it was the great thing he did for Jesus on the cross.

He was there for Jesus in His most trying moment when no one else was, hence Jesus who didn't respond to the request of the other sinner to also save him, didn't hesitate but instantly granted his request.

Luke 23:43 (KJV)

And Jesus said unto him, Verily I say unto thee, To day shalt thou be with me in paradise.

So the thief didn't just believe or have faith in Jesus to save him, he did a good work for Jesus on the cross.

God bless

Looking at the bible, is better.

From the bible, its because the thief knew he deserved his punishment, but Jesus did not and he knew Jesus is the King or messiah, and he asked him to remember him, it is not due to any work. It is as simple as that, there is no need to ramble and add ones interpretation.

NOW TO BIBLE

Luke 23:39-43
39 One of the criminals hanging beside him scoffed, “So you’re the Messiah, are you? Prove it by saving yourself—and us, too, while you’re at it!”

40 But the other criminal protested, “Don’t you fear God even when you have been sentenced to die? 41 We deserve to die for our crimes, but this man hasn’t done anything wrong.” 42 Then he said, “Jesus, remember me when you come into your Kingdom.”

43 And Jesus replied, “I assure you, today you will be with me in paradise.”

He was saved simply because he believed in Jesus and Jesus made him a promise. Christianity was still in it's early stage then and it took a lot of faith to believe in Jesus in that era, something that one shouldn't expect from a condemned thief. he believed in Jesus and it was counted for him as righteousness.

Nothing has changed, you are right, if anyone believes and in his heart knows and confesses with his mouth, then he saved.

God is amazing, praise God.

When we really believed and asked God to come to our lives, God saves us at that instant, and seals us with his Holy Spirit. We become a new person, we no longer love sin, but are sad by the evil we do. Its because of God living spirit, who works on us.

That thief, realized that he is a sinner, and that he deserved his punishment, he also realized, that the king and messiah, did not deserve to die, and he asked the king to remember him, and God justified him

I think you are adding you own interpretation to the bible. You went on an elaborate journey to bring confusion to yourself.

You think in error.

It was clear in the Bible that he worked.

Preaching the Gospel of Christ is work.

Standing up for Christ and not being ashamed of Him is work and the thief did that on the cross.

If you couldn't see that in the Bible, then you couldn't see clearly because it's right there.
Re: What Saved The Thief On The Cross? by SeriouslySense(m): 10:13am On Apr 16, 2023
Thank you for replying, but seriously, you are adding your interpretation. You want to fit your narrative, you don't need to, the text is simple, he recognized who Jesus was and accepted who he is, He is the savoir , the king, the one who is without sin and he asked and received.

smiley smiley smiley why are you adding more

Jesus saved the thief and not his works
Jesus death was to usher in a new testament and until that death, grace wasn't available
as at when the thief started the conversation, Jesus had not died.
The thief never engaged himself with the gathering of believers, he never attended bible study nor church services
What happened to the thief was that he simply believed that Jesus can save.

Jesus Christ said one absolutely must be born of water and born of spirit before one can then enter into the Kingdom of God. undecided
5 Jesus answered, Believe me when I say that everyone must be born from water and the Spirit. Anyone who is not born from water and the Spirit cannot enter God’s kingdom. - John 3 vs 5
When exactly, during that conversation did the thief become born-again? undecided

He became born again, when he believed in Jesus and ask to be in his kingdom.

Redemption depends on the Lord. Or God, not on works.

And God knew there was no time for water baptism, saw the mans heart and choose to save him. And once he believed sealed him with his Spirit.

For me, God sealed me once i believed and then i did the baptism properly. Whole immersion in water, signifying death to the old man, burying my old nature of sin, dying in Christ, then rising up with Christ.

As long as we are alive, we should do the water baptism, if we find a place to do it.
