1) Find a good altcoin...
2) Check the all-time high price during the last bull run. If you like it...mark it for jumping in.
3) Invest a huge amount into it (what you are ready to lose, pls)
4) Take profits and sell all when it is time.

* I may advise against investing into bitcoin if you want a substantial amount of profits. But if you have huge capital, then bitcoin is the way to go for bull run, followed by Ethereum.

You are right but knowing when to exit the market is something to still study as well because many people had seen their asset grow massively only to loose huge percent of because they don't really know when to exit the market
