Hi all, please I saw a 2013 Camry SE V6 but the only issue is that the car has a faulty ABS, and I was told by the seller that faulty ABS affects the transmission system.

I can buy it and install a new sensor, but please I want to know if it’s a good buy, or does it mean the gearbox would have suffered a damage as well?

A faulty ABS sensor may NOT destroy a transmission in Japanese cars. But may cause brake lockup during emergency braking which may result in a crash.

Thanks bro, the seller is being honest, and told me told me the ABS issue in newer cars makes the transmission rough, I decided to seek opinion of experts on NL before going to inspect with a mechanic later today..

This no suppose hard naa. Let dealer replace the sensor, you test drive vehicle to make sure gear functions ok with the new sensor, and you make payment. Case closed!

ABS sensor having fault wont cause erratic transmission switch.

The transmission is faulty fixing the ABS won't make the transmission suddenly work fine. Your transmission should be U660 ensure you know the price b4 U commit

If it is the abs module no, it has nothing to do with gear but if it is the abs sensor inside the leg then yes it works with gear. But don't buy that vehicle with that fault if the seller doesn't want to repair it

D seller is playing you. That car most likely has gear issues. He is just trying to hide under d cloak of faulty abs sensor.

Price a new gear before you pick up da car, weigh the pros and cons and decide thereafter if it's something you can beat with

true. In newer cars, it makes the transmission rough. That said, the abs sensor is not expensive. He should replace it. If you so much love the car, get an abs sensor, fix and test run the car. If transmission is smooth, pay and carry your car.

In toyota, it’s very unlikely that a bad abs sensor will cause transmission shifting issues.

Best decision. The used car market is a black market of sorts. Take your time, do thorough due diligence, employ the services of a true professional mechanic and finally, listen to your guts. Don't be emotional.

It surely can affect the transmission

My jalopy Yaris has refused to select last gear, that's gear four. Mecho claims faulty ABS sensor at the back legs are the cause, could this be true? (The ABS cable fell too close to the side of the rim and was gradually chopped off)

cheap sensor. Replace it and observe.

Car has gear issue, seller is trying to play a smart one on you. You'd fix the ABS sensor and gear will remain in the same bad state. Don't fall for it. Tell him to fix the sensor then you test drive after. If you really want the car. You can offer to foot the bill for fixing the sensor but be ready to forgo the expenses cos I'm pretty sure the gear is bad, not just the ABS.
