She was decorated ACP in 2017. The flying policewoman's 7.12m leap remained an African Record until Ese Brume's 7.17m leap in 2021.

Nigeria’s first Olympic Gold medalist, Chioma Ajunwa, was on Thursday decorated as a Deputy Commissioner of Police.

The officer was decorated by her new boss, Assistant Inspector-General of Police, Frank Mba.

Ajunwa made history as the first Nigerian to win gold at the 1996 Summer Olympics in Atlanta, and the first black African woman to win an Olympic gold medal in a field event.

It's really nice to see she's still in the Police after so many years, when her athletic prowess could have easily enabled her to emigrate to "better" climes. She's got my total respect.

She won her gold medal at a time we didn't really care were people came from. If it was now, there would have been East/West arguments about who is greater between Chioma and Falilat Ogunkoya
