This is good. However, the federal government should also address the issues of the ports of Niger Delta if they really want to reduce the population of Lagos State. You cannot make a few places viable and expect them not be overcrowded.

Nice.
God bless all the Lagos state government, past and present.
This is what I expect from my State "AKWA IBOM"
Not worship centers, stadiums and 21 story buildings.
Tell me how this lekki port will not generate income for Lagos state and reduce the rate of unemployment.
Atleast more than 100 people can work in a functioning seaport.

There are ports in those areas, the problem is the communities and youths getting anything out of those water area is luck, they will frustrate you till you pay more than you bargain for.

So on point. Transparancy and accountability is still a major issue, hugely lacking in governance. Even worse, is the double standard approach of the anti corruption fight by leaders of anti graft agencies. Constant and solid deterant majors also lacking.

What issues? The ports are all functioning. Even the report above clearly mentions how some containers will be moved from Lekki to SS and SE ports by river barge.

Moreover, Lekki is not a federal government project so why cry and harass the fg for what your State can do for itself? Wanna be like Lagos? Then do like Lagos.

Leader of rotten Nigeria

itubaba001:
Lagos, the commercial hub of Nigeria, has been ranking as one of the worst places to live in the world for the nine straight years, a BusinessDay analysis shows.

Data from the 2019 Global Liveability Index published by the Economist Intelligence Unit (EIU), the world’s leader in global business intelligence, shows the city has been within the range of 137th-139th position out of a total of 140 cities in the world from year 2011-2019.

Last year, Nigeria overtook India as the country with the largest number of people living in extreme poverty, thereby becoming the world capital of poverty, according to the Brookings Institute. This year, the number has risen to 91.6 million from 87 million in June 2018. Every minute, six Nigerians enter the group of extremely poor people, according to the World Poverty Clock.

Is there any reason for hiding the never happening Lagos light rail from the list

SB2020:
Interesting facts about Addis Ababa and Lagos light rail projects.

Addis Ababa / Lagos
Cost == $475Million / $1.2Billion
Length == 34km / 27km
Time to Complete == 4years / 7years (projected)
Year Awarded == 2011 / 2008 (Construction began 2010)
Contractor == China Railway Eng. Corp (CREC) /Chinese Civil Eng. Constr. Coy (CCECC)
Population == 5Million / 20Million
GDP == $50Billion (Ethiopia) / $100Billion (Est.) (Nigeria - $535B)

Ethiopia has managed to deliver Sub-Saharan Africa’s first modern light rail project which opened in the capital Addis Ababa on Sunday, and in the process, beat Lagos whose own rail project remains four years behind schedule.

Ethiopia’s rail project was delivered on time, despite its being longer than the Lagos – Badagry rail line currently under construction.

Addis Ababa’s two line 34-kilometre system was built by the China Railway Engineering Corporation (CREC) and cost $475m, 85 percent of which has been covered by China’s Exim bank. The Lagos Light Rail Project or Blue on Badagry Expressway, was to have 13 stations from Okokomaiko to Marina via Iddo for a total of 27 kilometres.

The contract was awarded to the Chinese Civil Engineering Construction Company (CCECC) at the cost of $1.2 billion in 2008, and was to be delivered in 2011. Survey work took one year between August 2009 and August 2010 while construction began July 2010.

The work is being implemented using the public and private partnership (PPP) model, whereby the state builds the infrastructure and the private sector provides the rolling stock and management. However, the project has not worked out according to the plan.
The 2011 deadline was missed, even though the State government got a loan to fund the project.

Why will it drop, if those who see themselves as xenophobia victims are too lazy to develop their own sea and river ports?

That is the primary reason why Lagos IGR is very high compared to other states.

Many state governors are too reluctant to put on their thinking cap. What stops state governors in the south from building a well equiped world class hospitals in partnership with the private sector and establishing dorminance in the health sector. Will this not stop the wastage of tax payers money in the name of medical tourism? While lagos is dorminating in port facilities, let other states establish themselves in other areas. That way, nigeria can become a completely developed nation in no time

How is tax payers money being wasted in the name of medical tourism?

power to run it is the issue as some equipment can't afford going on and off due to power outages.

Lekki seaport is a PPP enterprise with Lagos state government having some stake.
What you should do is call on your governor and not FG.

Not a fan of xenophobia, but you do realize that the intention for the Lekki Port is for it for displace the ports in neighbouring countries that have taken advantage of our lapses to become destinations of choice for landlocked countries to receive their goods?

I have come to understand that the way most nairalanders see things (which I must say is) from a very myopic and uneducated perspective is the same way most of the politicians in Nigeria see too.

Have you wondered why Nigeria, a commercial-quantity oil-producing country cannot boast of one fully functional crude oil refinery? Have you asked yourself why Nigeria a country that has a coastline spanning over 800km, bordering on seven southern states of the country will congregate their most functional ports in just one of those states, knowing fully well that that state has a very small terrestrial area for the large scale of human presence the ports will invoke?

The politics of hate and tribalism is a major limitation to the growth of Nigeria; it is the reason why we have a sane person loosing all sense of reasoning when it pertains people of his descent against those he sees as outsiders.

The mindset must first be changed then other changes will follow suite.

Go and tell your governor to build a port in your region.
Carry your frustration commot for nairaland.

From all you read how did FG make lagos viable ...
did FG build any of the Port in Lagos

Despite lekki port being in Lagos there is still low commercial activities IF the report were to be calabar or outside people will say Tinubu and FG are behind it

Lagos is viable becos the leaders we have in lagos have one common blueprints to work for, IF Lagos wait and relied on FG like other states Lagos won't be as viable as it is today
