How Policy Reversal Prevented Me From Acquiring Refinery In 2006 — Dangote by dre11(m): 8:59pm On May 22, 2023
Africa’s richest man, Aliko Dangote, has narrated how he couldn’t acquired Brownfield Refineries under the Federal Government’s Privatization Programme in 2006.

Dangote disclosed this on Monday during the commissioning of the world’s largest single-train refinery, Dangote Refinery and Petrochemicals, in Lagos.

He noted that his payment for the Brownfield refineries was returned because the policy was reversed by the government.

“Initially, we sought to enter the industry by acquiring brownfield Refineries under the Federal Government’s Privatization Programme in 2006/7. Regrettably, the privatization Policy was reversed, and our payment returned,” he said.

He said this motivated him to re-think our Market-entry strategy and Business Model.

“We subsequently committed to enter the Market boldly with a vision to invest in a greenfield Refinery that will transform the Industry in Nigeria and Africa.

“We decided on a plant designed with the State-of-the art technology and at a scale in capacity that will be a “game-changer” in Africa and the global market,” he added.

Thanks to Aliko Dangote for building this gigantic refinery in Lagos.

It's really a shame that the largest oil producing country in Africa doesn't have a single functional refinery

Policy summersault by the government.

Sometimes it is good to build from scratch than buying to renovate and patch.

I'm just imagining.

Some handle mops were already taking the opportunity to insult the living daylight out of Buhari but quickly recalled that their recently adopted god was in charge then.

They sharperly make a U turn and start murmuring some funny inaudible sounds. grin

I remember when Yar'Adua made that decision in the interest of the country. Even at death, we still celebrate him.

When Jonathan came on board, he became a weakling who allowed Nigerian politicians turned technocrats show the real evil in them.

Na Yaradua work be dat
The speed with which he reversed so many of Obj's last minute decisions shocked even the devil.
Nigeria was the worst for some of those reversals especially in power and oil industry

I still remember that time. It eventually turned out well for him as he now had to build his own from the scratch.

He actually made a decision that costs Nigèria money instead of gains with the steel mines.

Monopoly business

What monopoly business! Y’all keep shouting monopoly like Dangote handcuffed other competitors. Rise to the stage of you can compete and stop screaming “MONOPOLY”

Even several companies were issues license to build refineries, only Dangote did, and you still will accuse him of monopoly.

The very few still investing massively in the country, while others are stashing cash in safe havens.

Yaradua’s action was based on suspicions of favoritism.

He acted in good faith.

However, Dangote Refinery is a game changer.

He is the African Rockefeller

Yaradua made the reversal and many of Obasanjo's policies for the next administration. Oil and Power especially. Maybe if he hadn't we might have gotten our electricity fixed till now instead of the kangaroo privatision they did in power.

Yaradua was a socialist through and through
