When WhatsApp implements fees for its service, much like 2go did, and a direct competitor appears on the market, WhatsApp will soon cease to exist. It's not rocket science. Facebook bought WhatsApp cos it saw the future of it killing Facebook.

The creators of 2go managed to provide the impression that it is popular among young people. They forgot that young people grow! You have to pay to accomplish practically everything, and there are no creative chats...except e-dating numerous persons who'll never find out, and who lie about being independent, rich, or attempting to buy your fancy.

2go was simply a location for teenagers to hook up; it was a gathering spot where every teenager and adolescent behaved like an adult. A place to transact nudes and live videos for paltry sums and go-credits. A place to date and become a poet to your lover only in chat groups so everyone could see. You'll literally tell her to join the group and you hit the trigger with encomiums. And we, the other foolish adolescents who choose to be jealous, touched or convinced would be thinking of how we can find true love like them. Others will create alternate accounts and be the boyfriend and still be the girlfriend.

During that time, my beloved UC Browser helped me to spend the most of my time on Wapka.mobi. Then, the then UC Browser is better than the now Chrome, Opera and Safari. Then on Nimbuz, Space, Eskimi, Waptrick (oga patapata where I downloaded my first games, Bourne Conspiracy, Prince of Persia, Assasin Creed, etc, with graphics like the now CODM..and with low space on Java and Symbian), Waplog, Wapkid, Facebook (the version for Symbian is superior to the version for Android), and all kinikokiniko.

Waptrick did a great job of gobbling up my money that year. I loved gaming. Permit me to remind you that it also has the typical advertisements and links that go to RedWap.😶‍🌫️

And there was BBM. It came like it won't die until Google and Facebook did a headshot on it with the US rifle. Then, if you didn't have a BB ID, you are invisible. It's the same stigma that comes without owning an iPhone today...or even more. Many got killed kwa because of this and many, laid.🤦

On 2go, I only went to the Comedy Club-1 sector, and believe me when I say that all you needed was a solid mastery of the English language (be grandiloquent, whether a right or wrong diction) to be a celebrity on 2go and on the potentially vulnerable teenagers of the opposite sex that were hanging around. A significant number of people were laid and some killed too. Should I forget that GoCredit yahoo yahoo was present too?

What about boosting the rank to Expert? Before the 2go added more ranks as their first addicts who reached were feeling disinterested?

What a time! It was the starting point for the e-hookup culture among teenagers. Eskimi, Nimbuzz and the rest then beautified e-dating and meetups.

Omo, that artiste was right, all of us bi ashawo.

Same reason why blackberry messenger was a flop on Android.

Android was spreading fast, thanks to Tecno,you could even get a brand new android for #12k then,I got my Tecno N3 for #12k tear nylon .
Then Black berry messenger was available on Android,one had to start looking for pin up and down to add friends, unlike WhatsApp.

I think I was able to add like 10 or 15 pins and decided to abandon the app because i find it stressful then, unlike my WhatsApp.

2go is still existing. Though not as popular as it used to be.

Alot has changed in it. And one big change I observed I a very high amount they now charge to retrieve your lost password and also they charge more now for credit. And some of these makes it hard for alot of people to get back in.

I can say why they collapsed:

1. They weren't quick to develop an android app, and when they did, they maintained the same UI and UX they had on S40 and S60. This was bad to navigate on touchscreen devices.

2. They had Whatsapp as a competitor, and unlike 2go, Whatsapp didn't need you to buy GC to do basic stuff. Also, it was easier to connect with friends, since you only needed to have their phone numbers.

3. They didn't work on their marketing and geographic expansion game. They only had African users, out of which 80% are Nigerians.

Plus there were too many fake profiles on 2go ,it was taken over by kids begging for recharge card
