In any of those scenarios, it is theft if the documents bears the name of the side chick. A gift once given can't be forcefully taken even if the person in this scenario is the man and not the wife. The only scenario where the lady hasn't broken the law is when that car was jointly owned by both parties.

Many people break the law without knowing that they have broken the law, ignorance isn't an excuse.
