Workch:
Today I got a job offer with a salary of 350k and an official car just because I know a strong person in the company.
I use to work for another company at Ajah, I go to the office once in a week from thr mainland and it's not easy. My salary is 200k and I don't really like the work environment, I am tired of the job and this new job is not far from my house, its in Ikeja. My girlfriend whom I have known since 2011 when I was doing my I.T (WE dated then broke up, she came back last year January) connected me with one of her friends that I use to know back then. This her friend is married to the nephew of the CEO of this company and she works there herself.

She got my CV, 3 months ago, waited for a vacancy and made sure that it was not advertised. See, the interview, na only me dey there, the job was kept for me. It was not even an interview, it was a conversation and they were just telling me about the company, no stress. That's the power of knowing somebody, this will not be possible i didn't get a strong referral.

This morning I got my appointment letter. I asked them to give me 1 month to tidy up my account in this current office.
Try and build connections, know somebody that knows somebody that knows somebody. Ask for referrals, it's going to make the whole job hunt easier.

I forgot to ask, date girls that have substance. Don't date girl wey be liability

Oga, forget say you know person..it is good though, but favor smiled at you. If you like know the president of the world, if you are disfavored, nothing will happen with all your human connection.

Above all, be grateful to God, and do not think you got there simply because you knew someone there.

I celebrate with you on your winnings.
But then let's call a spade spade. Do you really merit the job? Are you coming to add value to the company? Let's be sincere here. This is not different from nepotism. Same thing politicians do that we complain.
Job seekers should not seek only big salaries and benefits. They should most importantly seek to add value to the company. I celebrate with you all the same

I merit the job, my CV speaks. In this country, merit is not enough. The competition is stiff

Well said OP. I remember a security officer in one of the Central Bank offices once helped a former course mate to get a job in Central Bank.

While you build and maintain a network of influential people, do not also look down on anyone cos you never can tell

This should work out for somebody who have something in his head to offer and not a dunce graduate. My guy, do you think if you had messed up during the "interview" or is it "conversation" you would still get the job even if you are the only applicant? While you look for connection also develop competence quotient. It will take you far.
He said in the other job he only goes there once a week! grin
Abegi nothing special in all these jobs jare.

The interview was instead turned into orientation exercise.

One of the mistakes I made during my undergraduates is that I dedicated 100% of my time to reading and academic activities.
Thank God I was able to correct everything during my masters when I dedicated 90% of my time to flexing, socialising and networking.
Knowing people can get you access even with low grades where first class is being rejected.

Sincerely, you've said it all.

If you don't know people (potential destiny helpers) in this country; one will suffer like a church rat.

It's not easy for Nigerian graduates...

Apparently, Job hunting in Nigeria is about connection, knowing the right people; it's not about carrying cv and trekking from one office to the other.

It can be frustrating and tiring!

May God just help someone...

Congrats!!
I beg to differ. I work in a multinational and I can loudly say to your hearing that I didn't know nobody to land the job. God came through for me.

In this life God moves in mysterious ways when he wants to bless a man, either he uses familiar people or total strangers. The latter is usually the case.

The OP is ascribing the glory due to God to another man. God used someone familiar to upgrade him, after all there are those who know connected people but yet they are still struggling.

Please don't forget to put another person in your current position before leaving.
Your present salary of 200k is a gold mine for graduates earnings below 70k right now.
I'll have begged you for the job but I'm not in Lagos.
Pls look for someone that need the job around you and place him/her there.
Congratulations on your new job.
May God locate me too.

Yes o. While i was working as room service in a hotel in asaba in 2020, there was this man that normally comes to eat at the chinese restaurant which serve as our office. One day i heard him making phone call in my dialect, i waited for him to finish the call then approached him, greeted him, the man said no wonder that he saw me smiling while he was making the call. Long story short, he told me to find a civil engineering graduate for immediate employment. I posted on my fb and whatsapp statuses as the only person i know was my physically challenged church member. When i told him he asked me to ask the man the nature of the job because of the condition. I told the man and he said he cant employ him. Before i left he usually told that i refused to bring someone for him. He was a very reputable engineer according to what i was told.
