I just got alert for my dividend from StanbicIBTC after conclusion of the Annual General Meeting today.

Out of the 8 banks where I own shares it is only StanbicIBTC that pays annual dividends, the others are largely useless!

Well I made the investment sometime in 2008.

I can't remember the exact amount it cost me at the time but I bought about 30,000 shares

The did a share reconstruction a few years back so now I have about 16,000 shares

The current value of each share on the stock exchange as at today is approximately N40 therefore my 16,000 shares are currently worth approximately N640,000

they are foreign owned...so they are straight forward...the rest o the banks dont pay cuz the bank's board always hv a reason to announce loss or very low profit after tax...

they create projects, inflate them and pas themonies to themselves...

What do you mean by "Share reconstruction" and what's the rationale behind reducing 30,000 shares to 16,000 shares??

There is no need to convert anything, the money has already landed in my bank account as we speak

What do you mean by "Share reconstruction" and what's the rationale behind reducing 30,000 shares to 16,000 shares??

A share reconstruction is basically a situation where a company decides to either increase or reduce the total number of shares or do some other adjustments.

Normally this process does not affect a person's percentage shareholding relative to other shareholders, therefore if the company decides to reduce the total number of shares by 30% it will affect every single shareholder in that same proportion.

Theoretically speaking this exercise should increase the value per share of the company since it results in having a fewer number of shares while the total valuation of the business enterprise remains the same.
