I hope my story will motivate someone to take charge of their life.
I lost my job last year July, and so a friend of mine introduce me to a poultry farm where I am earning 22k per month.

A man with wife and two kids o, my wife was not happy with the job even though she has been supportive in her own little way. And then, she suggested that I should learn handwork, and so I decided to learn welder.

On getting to the man, he told me I will spend 2 years o, I will pay 70k to learn from him. Me way I no get even 20k, I begged him to collect 50k and he agreed.

Then he asked me to make part payment of 30k. I went home and told my wife, and then she gave me 20k to give to the man. I gave the man 20k and he collected it, to my greatest surprise within 2 months I started doing the welding job perfectly.

On my own, I have paid up the remaining 30k with small small repairs job he allowed me to be doing for people. And by God's grace, I have started saving up for my tools.

I really thank my wife for the advice and the welder too. The man has been a tremendous blessing to me in many way. He even told me yesterday that with the look of things I may be free from him in 2 months time except I decided to still remain with him for a while.

Please take charge of your life and stop depending on people for survival.

wow! I respect your learning mindset, this is what most people miss in life: the mindset of ignoring the opinions of others and face your life and make a success of it. It takes courage and it also takes humility. 2 things you have exhibited. I am always learning and ready to put it to use immediately so I dont forget. you never know when those knoweldge you think are not immediately relevant will come in very handy and create success in an unimaginable way.
This is one of the areas we are lacking in nigeria, thinking the acquisition of certificates means you are better than everyone else.
Kudos brother!

Wrong move.

You have opportunity to learn the poultry business while getting paid on it, but you choose to pay just to learn local welding.

I know some wealthy poultry business owners, I am yet to see a wealthy local welder in Nigeria.

There are Engineering graduates who learn welding or plumbing as added value. I know one who is currently with an oil company in the Middle East. He started with an oil servicing company in PH.

An educated person will not practice welding like a local artisan once he has a good grasp of the work. There's a lot more to some of these technical skills which are so well appreciated outside these shores.

@OP
You made a wise move. Try to learn more and be open to specialised areas once you have a good grasp of the basics. Welding is more than burglary proof et al. You can make a fortune from it if you're creative with a good business sense.

May God bless your family and your enterprise. Kudos to your wife. She'll live to see you rise and shine to God's glory.

I swear down right now i want to learn welding and metal forging..

There is no end to learning and that mindset in Nigeria that a graduate should not get his hands dirty is what leads to stealing..

Enjoy your new and useful knowledge sir... i think i will do the same sef although I would prefer a more formal metalwork training

Can you please point a brother towards that direction or places where the certification can be gotten from?

Truth be told.

In a Nation like Nigeria. Salary Jobs Is now Stale.

The best way to go now Is to learn Skills that are In demand or Start a Viable Business. Someone will never regret doing So. I can't emphasize this enough.

Nigeria Is a Fertile Ground and there are still so many Untapped Opportunities.

Welding is studied as a topic in engineering, but not this particular one he is learning.

What he is learning is roadside welding.
