NLC should insist on removing the subsidy by 50%. When you remove it by 50%, use that money to provide palliatives ahead of total removal in a couple of years.

Why can't the government pay this subsidy to Dangote refinery directly and have the refinery supply it to Nigerians if they claim that corruption is the problem?

The money spent on subsidy is being borrowed. It has to stop once and for all.

BreconHills:

You guys don't get it. NNPC cash flow cannot support subsidy payments.

If a family cannot afford three square meals they go to 001 or 010 or something like that. They don't go and keep borrowing to eat three square meals because it will dig them into a deeper hole.

If you force NNPC to cough out money from its reserves for instance, then it will can only buy less fuel than it used to = scarcity. What does scarcity mean? Black market prices.

So Government will be spending money on subsidy and yet prices are still black market prices because it can't meet demand.

We've been here before na. Private companies should shave their margins and provide verifiable palliatives which the government can offset with tax rebates. Those who work in government can be given palliative. Private sector especially organised private sector should sort themselves out

Bro, you don't get it.

The issue is not about removing the subsidy. ..but which direction are we heading?

Even the quoted price they are forcing th masses to pay now is a hike and the govt knows that. . So there is no transparency in processing and systems.

We can't get anywhere with that. Even some monies are being saved now as claimed, they will still misappropriate about 90% of it into their personal pockets leaving the masses into more sufferings.

NLC should have insisted that the fed. govt provide palliatives first before announcing the increase the palliatives should be public mass transit busses all over nigeria that will be transporting low income earners to their work places. How do they expect a civil servant that earns #30k per month to cope with this current hike in transport fares?

True !
A Peter Obi of the Labour Party would have removed fuel subsidy if he had been the one that was sworn in on May 29.
Fuel subsidy removal was in Peter Obi and Ahmed-Datti's manifesto.
They will remove it with sense not senseless removal of fuel subsidy without planning. This can only happen when we elect a man whose brain is not functioning properly to rule this country.

The FG has no business owning and operating a refinery. They lack the capacity to run it.

What stops the FG from having at least one functional refinery instead?

Part of the alleviation that Tinubu should put put in place is total eradication of agberos in all motor parks or garages nationwide. If the money they are collecting from drivers is stopped it will go a long way.

What was your stands then. If you minus 12 years from your present age, how old were you then? The reason am asking is because nearly 95% of Nigerians were against the removal of subsidy then.

I support Tinubu's removal of subsidy because my Master Peter Obi too would have done the same, being the fact that it is the right thing to do.

Abi shocked ooh!

Just one working refinery!
How an individual, in the person of Dangote with limited funds be able to set up a new refinery but a government with almost unlimited funds is not able? All the moribund refineries were setup during the military administrations, what the heck is wrong with the subsequent civilian administrations?

Don't wait for Wole Soyinka or Bakare.
Go on the street and protest. You can do a one- man protest or call your friends to join.
Soyinka was not up to your age when he started fighting injustices.

Same question I've been asking for donkey years.

How can a country send out its crude oil and bring it back refined? The systemic corruption in Nigeria is just out of this world. It's a waste of time and energy praying and hoping that Nigeria will get better because the situation is just irredeemable.
