8 years ago Mr. Buhari was touted as the strongman of action and totalitarianism. Nigerians yearned for a President that governed as a military dictator because they believed he was disciplined and incorruptible. So they ceded every single institution of government and authority of State to his influence. A situation most on this topic are denying now.

It shows that Nigerians will only learn from hardship (for a while until they forget and revert to their primordial sentiments) and perhaps come to a realization that democracy has its rules to be followed in order to benefit from it.

One if it's rules is the independence of institutions created for checks and balances. By independence I mean a notion that such an institution does not belong to you or me or Mr. President alone, but it belongs to ALL of us EQUALLY. And if all these had worked this issue will not have arisen or be spoken about.

If the CBN was truly independent or autonomous then it will have been 'controllable' by the people through the Legislature and policies indeed will have been in the interest of the people.

So Mr. Emefiele's guilt about the sufferings of Nigerians in a nutshell is a result of the ignorance and weakness of the citizens that cannot insist on independent, governable institutions that operate in their interests and not in the interests alone of Mr. President or a few around him.

Now, what are we doing about this kind of thing so that in 4 or 8 years we will not be dramatizing this over again. How are we as citizens insisting that Mr. Bola Tinubu be held to account and that he is not made more powerful than institutions of state.
