why didn't you do 2-3 seed per stand though?

Weldone. Farming no easy o. We dey here dey farm too
Will it make any difference than putting one per hole?

Yes, you are right. Farming is not easy

Why is the spacing between your maize crop that much? undecided
I think the spacing is not bad
Re: My Maize, Pepper And Tomatoes Farm by NobleSeed(m): 3:13pm On Jun 12, 2023
Mr man you don't expect op spacing and that of your neighborhood to be same na..
A plant's roots need space so that they can spread out and absorb water and nutrients. Its leaves need space so that they access light. When plants grow too close together, they have to compete for these resources.
Kobojunkie:
All I did was ask Op why the huge spacing since that means less yield at the end from the planting. Whether you plant single seed or not, the space I see in that picture is much particularly when I compare to the farm next door here where the spacing between the plants measure no more than 6". undecided

yeah.

If one dies, you won't lose the stand. Besides the harvest will be more.

Now if one stick gets damaged, you'll lose the entire stand.

You were supposed to tag him, to help him grow, there are people here willing to invest in large scale farming.
We have plans to grow to large scale too so may not need the tagging.
One of the hard parts of business is the human factor and if that is sorted out, no need trying to lose such again

I noticed you do not have a fence or metal protection. How do you know the boundaries to your farm? These are all recipes that can lead to massive loss.
For now I am using a leased farm from a friend who lost interest in farming and relocated to Canada.

There are trees at the boundary edges likewise survey pillars

Was the land rented or you bought it?

We always do replanting if we noticed those that didn't grow due to drought or any other factor

How do you tackle weed.
Is the weeding done manually or you use chemical.
What's the cost.

First of all, i am grateful for this forum in getting and hiring a good farm manager.
My former manager frustrated me and i ran at loss last year but so far so good, the person i hired on nairaland has been faithful, loyal and hard working.
Nice, job well done. I also have maize snd cassava on 2 acres of land. Pictures soon. I don’t have any knowledge in agriculture just trying this for the first time. Though the land belongs to my father and decided to grow crops on it.

I plan to clear the weed next week. To help the maize well. Harvesting is august. I will send the pictures when next I go to the farm

@emmaodet. Good one so far. I supposed the aim of this thread is to enlighten people about farming, its merits and demerits. If true, kindly carry people along with the overhead expenses you have incurred from inception. My little calculation of the wages of your farm manager alone for 6 months should be N480,000 (80k x 6 months). What of expenses on farmland? did you buy the land or lease it? And for how much, amidst other expenses incurred (land clearing, fertilizer, pesticides, etc) till this date.

This will help in calculating if expenses incurred up till harvest time will be commensurate with your earning expectations on the farm. I like your energy though.
