I have a 4.37 CGPA in my Masters programme at FUTMINNA. Would really appreciate if this truly turns out to be real.

I have an outstanding payment of N252,000 to make for two sessions.
Wow!! Impressive!! Very very proud of you. That money is not so much so I will advise you start putting your credentials together to be among the beneficiaries. Best of luck.

I doubt they will be required to pay before they get a reasonable job. It's credit system. It's helps to build economy.
Mindlog:

Going by antecedent, repayment will be very low as Nigeria do not have the structures to make it sustainable.

Student loans are a financial burden which does not quite make sense on a pure accounting basis. So, you have signed up for a loan (a liability, surrender of your future earnings) and you have nothing to show for it. On the other hand, when you take a loan on a house (a mortgage), you have a liability (a mortgage) and an asset (a house), so when things get tough, you can sell the asset to cover that liability. And in a worst case scenario, you simply file for bankruptcy and walk away from it - with a beaten up credit score, but you recover fully in about 7 years (in US, bankruptcy is removed within 7 years from the person's credit profile). Easy. Simple. Elegant.

Now, we have a student loan. You take a loan and you spend money. You gain nothing tangible - no assets. You have an expectation of future earnings, but it's not a guarantee. However, once you are out of school, loan is due - regardless of whether or not you have means to pay for it, such as a job. Now, when things get very tough - let's say you need to pay rent and you need to eat and you would like to get a family - but the student loan is still there, and it's not going away. You can't discharge it in a simple bankruptcy. You can't make it go away in an easy way - it's a forever burden.

Your summary is longer than post itself. Well as for not having tangible asset for loan. Is there any tangible asset when you pay fees upfront?
The bill is effectively an end to education subsidy at tertiary level. It is a little bit like taking loan at zero interest to buy fuel at N500+ a litre.
I said it a few days ago not realizing a bill was in motion and now it has been signed. Next is forex subsidy AKA collapse of multiple exchange rate or floated exchange rate dictated by market forces.

It's a good law obviously, but the details here is too sketchy.

It's just skeletal. Laws are much more that detailed.
Who give the loan
Eligibility.. Degree/ NCE/ ND1/2?
Any age barrier
Etc

With these initiatives, the university curriculum needs to be reform to include courses needed to compete in these centuries. Those outdated syllabus should revisited

Invest more in technical College and remove the dichotomy between HND and BSC. They are supposed to serve different purpose in the society's.

Investment in sports is another area where the citizens can do great things for themselves based on talent and skills set. All of us can't be called a graduate, but we all should be able to live a comfortable lifestyle.

We also need more tech hub to catch those secondary schools student at early age, they will be needed to help Nagivate Nigeria in the tech world.

This is going to be another financial disaster for Nigeria.

Look to the USA and other countries to see the future that awaits.

This is not a good program. I know, it seems like a good thing now but it will backfire in the long term.

Nigerians are generally socialist in their socio-economic orientation so they will rejoice.

Good Luck to Nigeria.

Tinubu and Mko had same agenda and worked together politically.. though MKO was the leader then. But they had same vision. I am just seeing MKO's script playing seeing Tinubu as President.

Summary

When we reach the point where politicians are running for office on a platform of, “free college for everyone,” you know that we have gone past the tipping point. “Free” college is just going to throw kerosene on this fire.

We are seeing some cracks around the edges, e.g. coding bootcamps and startup apprenticeships like Praxis, but what is needed is a better educated consumer.

PS

I saw a question on career section this afternoon. “Should I go to school X or school Y? (Money is an object, but I might get some financial aid at school Y.)”

School Y’s cost of attendance is more than twice that of school X. No thought of can I afford either one of these schools? No thought of preparing a financial analysis. We have a generation of irresponsible morons whose parents are mentally absent. That’s why we have a financial aid crisis.
