Maybe Dangote was roundtripping the 450 rate and selling for 800, that's the only way he could pay off loan without refining

Lmaooo.. So baba ran us streetšŸ˜‚šŸ˜‚

Because this is the only plausible idea.

Or another crazy but not far fetched explanation could be he didn't pay back and the FG is lying about the ownership of the refineryšŸ¤.

I had to go back and read the news about Dangote paying back over 70% of the loans advanced to him for the construction of the refinery .

I think Emefiele is responsible for the confusion surrounding the Finance of Dangoteā€™s refinery and the loan repayment .

Reading the excerpts in the screenshot below , I think Dangote actually borrowed from local commercial banks , he channeled the funds to the refinery construction but was servicing his loan from other business earnings like Dangote Sugar , Dangote Cement , Dangote Fertilizers etc .

So basically Iā€™m assuming Dangote group the owners of Dangote refinery sourced for funds locally and abroad ; then Dangote group has been repaying those loans from earnings from its many subsidiaries .

Emefiele just opened his mouth waaaa ! didnā€™t make any clear distinction to people who donā€™t have deep understanding of these things saying ā€œ Dangote refinery has been repaying itā€™s loans even when itā€™s not yet in operationā€ . now everybody is wondering how a company that is not yet in operation can afford to pay back loans taken to set it up .

You have applauded some policies of BAT Administration already and also spoke against policies you assume its anti-people - of course its good to keep government officials on their toes.

I will not speak of things I donā€™t know . Around 2018 I was privileged to see the loan documents of some top commercial bankā€™s loan to Dangote group .

As at then I knew the funds were disbursed and with a structured repayment plan well spelt out which required the Dangote Group to service its loans as at when due .

What Iā€™m saying here is Dangote group got the loan and has obviously been servicing that loan to extent of its balance dropping to the figures emefiele quoted .

How Emefiele messed up was making the whole thing look like Dangote Refinery ( a subsidiary of Dangote Group ) has been paying back a loan taken for its establishment even when it has not commenced operation . We all know that makes no sense hence why u actually think itā€™s funny .

In lay manā€™s terms : Na Dangote know wetin him dey do for him other businesses to have been able to use proceeds from there to sort his loan payment for the refinery project . PS: If u ask him , he will ask u to wait for his autobiography to read the secret inside cool

Bruh I don't know if you read what I wrote or even know how to read.

The tax you pay for healthcare as NI contributions is separate to what you pay as Personal Income Tax.

The tax you pay to maintain roads in the UK is council tax, which is different to the tax you pay to drive on the same road which is road tax.

You inherit property, you pay inheritance tax. You sell the property, you pay Capital Gains Tax.

That's at least 6 different taxes that you pay as an individual in the UK.

You now want to compare that to a country where 72% of all employed eligible taxpayers did not give the federal government a single kobo in tax in 2018.

Where is the funding for healthcare supposed to come from? The sky?
Tax is a highly emotive subject; I just paid CGT with all deductible + small jara still ended up paying around 20% even though I am Non UK domiciled cos I sold off an apartment I bought many years ago due to too much wahala and how it complicates my tax filing here. I am also very annoyed at having to pay for private health insurance in the country I live now when I have paid atleast 2 decades of NI contributions.

I take most data coming out about Nigeria with a pinch of salt; look again at the bolded statement and tell me how it adds up? Is it a failure of govt to collect it from the identified 72% or perharps it was collected unofficially (state inland revenue /state actors collected but dem no remit or the figure is a mere extrapolation based on the adult population?

nihilistjnr:

This is one reason why politicians don't mind stealing money. There isn't enough in the kitty to do anything useful without borrowing. Nigerians have low expectations so they don't pay tax. That suits the thieves just fine as they can loot in peace without having to honour a social contract

Apart from being heartless scumbags, they steal because they can without any serious consequences, you mean the 85billion naira wasted on the Nigerian Airways scam would not do anything useful...

The argument about job to pay back the loan still dey funny me tbh.

Any body that takes the student loan will have to go to school for 4yrs or more depending on the course the person study, do nysc and still have another extra 2yrs before repayment starts.

For example, someone that takes the loan to study Accounting in University this year 2023 will only starts repayments on 2030.

Are you people saying in 7yrs time, the person that take the loan wont be able to get a job?

I'll like you people crystal ball sha.

Itā€™s not my job to know . I donā€™t have access to Dangote groupā€™s Financials , likewise u.

The key take away here is that if Dangote wasnā€™t paying back his loan, the consortium of lending banks wouldā€™ve raised an alarm and Emefiele the CBN governor wouldā€™ve been working with AMCON to recover those loans from Dangote now instead of lauding him for repaying his loans.

It sounds funny to me. Businesses don't typically pay loans unless due, and logic dictates that the repayment dates of those loans will be tied to when the asset for which the loan was borrowed was supposed to start generating cash. This kind of loan will typically be structured over 10 years plus. In addition the project exceeded budget handsomely so he is likely to need more loans rather than pay down the ones that are not even chasing him. Maybe the 20% NNPC cash injection was used for loan restructuring since the project was delayed

Lolz ā€¦. In Nigeria things donā€™t usually work like u expect them to .

The repayment of the loan is not even tied to what the loan is being used for . U will be surprised if the man repays the loan within 2 years cos his source of repayment ehn, miracle fit happen in form of crusade šŸ˜†.

I'm not buying it. Dangote is good for foreign loans on foreign repayment terms any day.

Let me get this right, if Dangote is worth only $13bln (most of it illiquid) and his refinery is worth $18bln, of which he owns $14.4 bln of it unencumbered, plus his other assets, who got their calculations wrong?

Some serious FX magomago may have taken place on this refinery. They should put electric shocks to Emefieles testicles, the truth will come out.
