I don't understand.

I paid library fees
I paid for my hostel
I paid for my feeding
I paid for textbooks

So, how's tuition free in government schools?

Do you pay your lecturers? Tuition is for lectures and other associated academic activities
Your feeding is on you. Accommodation is also on you

I just don't understand this daily trust news. Universities owned by Federal Government were never free. Despite studying many years ago, I paid Tuition fees every semester. What I Daily Post should have mentioned is an increase in tuition fees. I just don't understand the way and manner which these journalists who should keep us informed are misinforming us.

APC media will tell you that travelling from LOS - ABV is FREE with your NIN.

They control the media with lies and propaganda.

You responded like a mumu. The guy is asking how our higher institutions of learning is free but you are here making it about APC. The poster was the one who said tuition is free and that it won't be anymore. Òdè

What you pay for these services in a federal institution is highly subsidized that is why they cost more in a private uni. Paying 10k a semester for hostel rent and utilities cannot be market rate.

Also, overheads such as staff salaries.

Capex spent on equipment of all sorts

Tuition fees are fees you pay for your actual academic instructions/lectures…
It’s such an ELEMENTARY concept that it’s shocking to see so many struggling with it.
cool

I don’t know about EVERY single federal university…
But I know for a fact that UNILAG is CURRENTLY tuition- free.

Paying for accommodation, library, sports, food, clinic, etc…
Has absolutely NOTHING to do with tuition - that is, academic instructions.

Since coming into office to sit on a stolen mandate, Tinubu has been signing all manners of bills without studying them. Buhari did not fare any better; Tinubu will be worse. Let's not forget that Buhari couldn't even read, and Tinubu has promised to continue Buhari's legacies to take his family along the path of failure.

Funny guy .
I am old enough to remember Ali must go riots.
These tensions are ancient
Once upon a time students in Nigerian universities enjoyed free food with treats like ice cream fried chicken et c . 2 or 3 in a room, cleaners cleaning your rooms and doing laundry. Yes Nigeria
I was in university under Babangida when it all disappeared. Tuition was still free under Babangida but the quality dropped massively
Forget the polemic. You have a visceral understanding

Our population has trebled and we are broke.
There is no way to sugar coat it.
Once upon a time Nigerian universities were world class. Today there is no money and students has to pay
I don't see the relevance of your nostalgic reminiscing.
You failed to answer the cogent questions I asked, neither were you able to speak to the issues on ground.
You just keep repeating Nigeria is broke, no money, like a bad record.
It's a pity

Yoruba say kokoko ni a n ro Ifa aditi

Repetition is the staple of the less intelligent
Hopefully they will get it after hearing it several times
we are are broke
Once upon a time when we were a young nation swimming in oil money we could afford to subsidise it
Now we cannot
The point of the reminiscing is that government confronting the reality of limited ability to pay For subsidy for university education started in the Ali Must go crisis when several students were killed protesting subsidy withdrawal for education
Our finances are much worse now

We are on the verge of debt servicing exceeding revenue

So once again

We are broke

We are broke we cannot afford it that is why ASUU were at home for months last year.
No money to meet their demands

you dont know what tuition fee is, even as a graduate. It's disgraceful. Go and bring out your receipt. You will see tuition, zero naira. Then u will see all other levies charged by ur school and not FG. Levies like accommodation fee, exam fee, development levy and all sorts of nonsense the schools charge which ends up as the school's IGR. FG gets nothing cos the tuition (main school fees) is zero.

Aditi is deaf not less intelligent
ASUU strike did not start last year. Even in the 70s, there were ASUU strikes.
All your talk of being broke is an excuse
The UN says national budget should be around 26% for education. Nigeria spends less than 15% on education. Ask those telling you we're broke were the remaining 10% goes to.
We are still swimming in oil money. The problem is the oil money is not enough to cater for greed, waste and at the same time, genuine govt services.
So you have to choose. Corrupt govt or efficient govt. One is able to afford its commitment to citizens while the other cannot.

Aditi is not just deaf. But you confirm my point for me.
Yoruba is a poetic language
With relatively few words that mean so many different things to those who understand the language of Ifa. Aditi can mean a stubborn person, a heedless person or one who is slow

Kokoko in that context means unceasing repetition
There were no ASUU strikes in the 70s.
The first strike I know of was in 1988. under Babangida.
Universities were very well funded in the 70s which was the point of the reminiscing that you call nostalgia. We saw $30 Oil which in today's money is $160
We are swimming in oil money? Put a number to it?

Do you have a clue the cost of production of a barrel of oil in Nigeria
How much revenue did we get from oil last. year? You have no clue wha you are talking about
