U are conflating issues . I’ve already mentioned it here before now that the #500k combined family income makes no sense and Larride pointed it out that there’s likely to be an amendment of that since what was being shared on the media space is the old framework of the student loan while it was in process .

That being said , my last paragraph has already addressed the issue of guarantor .

If u need a guarantor for something that will affect ur future today, I can bet u will find a way around it . Except u and ur family members have terrible characters and nobody is willing to vouch for u. I’ve signed guarantor forms and charctwr refrence form for people before , it’s no big deal( I only sign for people I can vouch for to an extent ) .

Like I said earlier, the guarantor aspect is the least of anybody’s worry. For example, a student who finished secondary school from a public secondary school can get his or her former teachers who are on grade level 12 and above in the state teaching service to sign for him/her . It’s because u think anybody that gets the loan will run away with it; that’s why u are having paranoia over the whole guarantor requirement .
There are different levels of issue a guarantor would want to involve in.

It is stated that the guarantor (definitely have the means to pay)would pay if things goes awry....

The possibility of the graduate landing a job is extremely low in this country (fact).

Now, would you in your right sense stand as a guarantor for such a probability??.

The student loan will make sense only when there is significant improvement on employment otherwise it is just another nonsense made only against the poor/average Nigerians

People that drafted that student loan weren't crazy not to see the yardstick......

I think I understand u. The thing is; like every other Nigerian u think the purpose of going to university is to get a white collar job and be able to repay the loan.

Not everybody that goes to university will get a white collar job after school . Even during our parents’ time when Nigeria was better , not all of them who attended university got white collar jobs, some had to delve into self employment after school .

For example tge Nigerian Labour market does not have the resources to accommodate everybody that studied law in the university and attended Nigerian law school . Not all of them will work for Afe Babalola chambers, Wole Olanipekun chambers, Falana and Falana chambers etc . Some will have to lurk around courts to do charge and bail lawyer for criminals , some will have to open shops in the area and work as property lawyer for landlords and property developers , etc .

My point is; paying back the loan will require serious planning on ur part before u think of accessing the loan . U will be unwise to know u are not sound academically only to access the loan , graduate with pass or third class and then start complaining of unemployment .

If I want to sign guarantor for any relative or family member trying to access the loan, I will interview such person and know what’s his plan if white collar job doesn’t show after graduation . How resourceful is he ? Will he be willing to hustle with didgital skills like Cloud computing , Data analysis , programming etc so as to be able to pay back the loan ? If the answer is no, then I won’t sign for him.

Wait first ! Are u against the loan arrangement totally or it’s the conditions attached to it u are against ?

We all have one or more people who we assisted, coached, coaxed but who simply could not get or hold down a job

A few years back on my faculty whatsapp group an intervention was staged for one of us who had not gotten a job. And this guy finished with a 2.1.

We have a strong and misplaced culture of entitlement and that is part of the issue here.

We assume we are automatically due tertiary education ; we are automatically due soft life white collar jobs once we graduate

This one na regular. They have stolen most of the manholes in festac. I suspect these are the same ones who are responsible for the ijora bridge failure. Several public concrete structures are regularly damaged by these guys so they can harvest the reinforcement and sell it off. I have seen concrete dividers hacked so the reinforcement can be taken away.

It is also the same people stealing railway ties and ultimately derailing trains.

My own is; why is that it's this Tinubu's– sorry Tribune Newspaper his lawyers are always referencing? grin grin

Why will INEC make such an important announcement, yet independent media did not carry it, to corroborate it?

I hope the court considers the veracity of that dubious publication they're always referring to as proof that Manhood decided to change the decision to transmit the election results live.

Look at Obi's counsel who have brought witnesses from different TV stations just to back up their case.

https://www.nairaland.com/7730933/tinubus-victory-ait-broadcaster-ijeoma

The witness from AIT unconsciously stabbed whatever proof she brought, when she confirmed that it wasn't an official copy and she got it online.

Obi lawyers need to up their game. I don't want to believe they deliberately want to lose this case.

Baba , I get friend wey graduate with HND distinction from one of the top polytechnics in Nigeria . Personally I took his case heads-on, I had to review his CV, even opened a gmail in his behalf applying for jobs on his behalf cos I know he has a lot to offer whoever employs him, etc .

Las las he didn’t get a job. But he delved into self employment ; today he’s married , has a business which he started from scratch based on skills he acquired while hustling his way through schools . He used his business management skills he learnt from school to manage the business and he’s living better than some graduates who even earn 75k monthly as bank teller with the same qualification .

No be everybody go work for office .

They should give people like this long prison sentence ; we need less of them free in the streets .

I remember when Ambode decided to embark on putting iron mesh on express roads to prevent people from crossing the express instead of using pedestrian bridges all over Lagos . These guys cut off the iron mesh bit by bit selling it to artisans who need it . The iron mesh that was out there to safeguard lives, they just turn it to their own meal ticket .

I think the government also need to address the issue of “area boys” , “osanle” and issues surrounding people living on the streets without anybody monitoring what they are doing in the dead of the night . Imagine this guy was sighted at 3.30am cutting bridge railings . If there are no destitutes on the streets , will anybody leave his house 3.30am with the plan of cutting bridge railings ?

Thanks for this. I wanted to type something along this lines earlier in the week but some people will start shouting that it's because you are abroad

There is a younger bro to a friend, who I mentored. He did Psychology in school when he graduated like 2014. I asked for his plan, he didn't have anything concrete. He was talking about Masters etc. I told him to consider IT. He went for all these Oracle, then Cisco training later settled in Cisco Security, Around 2015 he got a contract job in a Bank as transaction monitoring and later SOC analyst, he kept developing himself taking more certification then he moved to Interswitch around 2019, by 2022 he was offered BO in a bank SBO on confirmation with a monthly salary of over 600k Naira a month, last April another bank just sent an email for a chat and he will be asking for AM or worst SBO with AM upon confirmation. Needless to say his monthly pay will be increased for him to move

You just don't sit somewhere and say govt will provide jobs

I studied Engineering in school thinking I will work in oil and Gas, my first job was in a bank which I left after a few months. Till date about 20yrs after graduation I have never worked in Oil and Gas as a process engineer. I have worked in at least 3 different industries in Nigeria and abroad without knowing anyone or connections

I have classmates who we graduated as Engineers today who are succesful chartered accountants and authorities in accounting. Shebi the new CBN guy is an Engineer.

I gave that instance of the guy above because some people will say the economy has changed since my time. But this is a guy who graduated less than 10yrs ago, and very early 30s in this same Nigeria. Basically most of his career has been in Buhari years.

There are still people today graduating and getting jobs. It's to position yourself to where you are likely to make a headway. While he was going towards IT, some of his classmates were going for Masters in Psychology and till date they don't have a job or now doing customer service

There are some of my own mates who did Engineering got 2-1 about 20yrs ago and never got a job till now. Or just teaching in one private secondary school in Osun or Ekiti. I can't even start telling them a kid who graduated way after them is working and might be earning close to a million soon.

It's your life. If you think education is the track for you pursue it but do it with everything you have. You are responsible for your success or failure.

If you follow some of Jarus mentees you will see some of these guys are interior hinterland ara ilu oke with no connections and they are now successful in the corporate world. There are thousands like that all over Nigeria.

I can reel out as many as possible example. All doing legit jobs and making it.

If you are waiting for Tinubu Buhari or those to plan your life for you, then you will wait forever

That’s true sha . If they contract the “Eleniyan” of the area to safeguard these government assets , I’m very sure these incidents will reduce .

I remember when armed robbers robbed a friend in Bariga in his house . At daybreak he went to meet the eleniyan and accused him of allowing him to be robbed in his house despite how he usually gives them money for drinks and donation during carnivals.

The man apologized and asked him to come back in the evening that he will get to the bottom of things . In the evening my friend was at his place and he said he saw over 100 stolen phones and at least 30 laptops paraded in front of him and he was asked to identify his stuff . He did and he got them at no cost to him at that point .

He later told me that the eleniyan knows about any robbery, phone snatching and net cutting that happened in the area every single day ; nothing passes behind him. People like that, na only them fit catch thief cos dem be thief .

You guys are missing it, we are not saying bat should provide the jobs
At least he should give us the amenities shebi when you guys were growing up there were many industries in the country like Dunlop and other foreign companies but now about 90% have left the country because of these amenities like electricity, security etc
Majority of the companies we have now are sme that can’t take max of 20 employees
Only a lazy person will be waiting for government to provide jobs but at least he should do the needful

Let me reply your last paragraph..

Student loan is definitely a good idea but the timing along side the attachments..

There is no favourable conditions provided by the government to allow him perform what ever informations he has gathered.

When I say no job anywhere..I am saying if you have gathered much to show your prowess, there is a strong barrier waiting for you to activate...

The APC-led gov haven't given us hope to believe .....

You can't possibly tell me they didn't understood the script of 500k b4 embarking n if there is a review to let say 1m. ,it is still not worth it presently.

A family leaving in Nigeria with an income of 100k have problem feeding let alone thinking about schooling.yet they are not qualify.. ..

At your example, how do you perform a thorough investigation on a prospective student for a stretch of 5 years n be accurate.....

It is a game to curtail uproar, atleast the slogan has been there "Nigeria is broke"

The thing is that you will complain whichever way.

The earlier everyone knows this, the earlier the argument wont take long.

How did you came you to the conclusion that I will complain when standard of living is favourable amidst a policy

As it stands now...can you tell me a family(attached source of income) can qualify for the loan......looking at the policy as at today......

If after everything BlueRayDick typed previously, you are still asking me this question, it's either you didn't read his post or you are just looking for who to argue with.

Dont worry tho, the govt will hold on implementing any policies until the standard of living is favorable.
