Wizkid was almost 30 when he went there, he just learnt to force the accent on himself, your accent will not change after 25 unless you make a very conscious effort to change it. David na ajebo and speaking with an American accent is something he can do if he wants to, but how will speaking with American accent help him on Nigerian streets.

Here is a thing about accent - if you are a non native speaker, you are gonna be speaking English with the rules of your first language and that is what gives you an accent. Now to my understanding I think David is an anchor baby (Just for the citizenship) same as the Bred and Shina Rambo all born in ATL. Their native language which they interact everyday is not English and the more you speak a language you develop a muscle memory for the sounds that exist in the language and that same rule you will apply to any other language that you speak.

I've been listening to hip hop since I was a kid and I remember watching American and telemundo movies, the way they pronounced words stuck in my memory.

After I noticed what was happening, I decided to stick to my "foreign" accent (according to Nigerians) and learn the American English pronouciation by using online dictionaries.
