In e-commerce parlance shipping can mean air, sea or road. Shipping by air for me usually takes 3 weeks - from supplier to the office of my shipping agent.

There will always be something to switch to. The amount of energy available on earth is almost limitless. There is solar, wind, Gas (Methane, Butane, propane, CNG), Biogas, Biodiesel and ultimately nuclear. We only need to be innovative. And as they say, necessity is the mother of invention. We already waste (flare) million of cubit meters of gas per day while we are energy starved. We cannot and should not rely on a single source of energy.
