Last time I checked Nigerians are good people but our govt and politics make us do or think otherwise.
Re: NYSC: My First Encounter In South-East As A Corper by seeme2(f): 1:35pm On Jul 18, 2023
Evebthough I mock Igbo people to no end and oppose them politically I served in the East too and I know one thing: most of them are kind to strangers. Believe it or not they have special love for Yoruba.

The Igbo man's weakness is his mouth. It's a genetic and cultural thing. Mouth mouth mouth. They will do no harm physically but say things that will make you hate them. Ironsi wasn't killed or Igbos massacared until Nzeogwu granted an interview in which he detailed how he killed Sarduna Sokoto. If only these people are diplomatic and know how and when to talk they'd have been very successful. Today, they maintain they are successful and I wonder how. You can't be more successful than how your govt wants you to be. With only one law, govt can end your success and it won't take a week.

I feel overwhelmed by what just happened.

A little background information: I lived and studied in Ogun precisely before my called-up letter came. I saw Abia in my call-up letter and the next thought that crowded my mind was the hatred projected during the just concluded election.

Since I had no connection, I chose my fate and had to skip my reporting date to camp. After losing every hope of redeployment, I decided to follow the next batch.

Our driver stopped in Lokoja and we rested before we continue the next day to Abia.

I had to make a plan that when I have money, I will buy their native wear to disguise myself. Immediately I stopped at the Abia park, I entered the next bus to the orientation camp.

After our three weeks in camp, I reported to my PPA.

Yesterday, I wanted to get a recharge card from a kiosk beside the road and I met an Igbo man. He looked at me and immediately fear gripped me.

He asked me whether I was new in the area, I wanted to lie and say "no". But my mouth betrayed me.

He smiled and bought the item in the attached picture below.

What happened to us? I had to repent. Truly Nigerians are loving people. I couldn't contain my joy.

This is my first time in the southeast and just this singular act from yesterday has changed a lot about how I see Nigerians.

I know there are a lot of agitations but yesterday a Nigerian showed kindness to a Nigerian. It's officially my 1 month and 15 days in Abia.

Sir Nlfpm.od. This is my latest experience.
So as at University didn't you mingle with other Nigerians from diversified background?

Not only igbo people, God to the north and see for yourself, im yoruba, although have not been to eastern part, stayed in the north forover 13years now. Just like the media makes Northern people a bad people same to igbo and yoruba, but the only set of people that believes this are the ones that hasn't travelled out of their zone before.
It is not what it looks like in there internet, let's leave crisis aside Nigerians are angels, although first impression might make you think otherwise, but your approach to your environment maters too. Just as people thinks the egberos in lagos will rub you at first sight, some folks thinks the igbo eats human ,and others thinks the housas will slaughter you for no reason, it is not generally true, have seen agberos helping people gets out of trouble in lagos and have seen fulani herdsmen showing you road in the north when you are lost. Evil is everywhere in the world and peace and harmony is everywhere in the world, its just depends on your mind set and God grace. The one that makes me cry is that every one thinks the Northerners are beggers loll you barely see any bigger on the street in the north ,they rather farm than beg, everyone thinks all igbos are 419, loll I don't need to keep going, change your mindset fellas

I once explained to someone up there that I stayed in Lokoja with a friend while waiting for my called up letter.

I decided to use the lokoja route because I bought some of the things I will be needing in camp and kept it in my friends house. So, wisdom mandate I go get those things and continue my journey. For brevity, I skipped that part when Writing my missive.

Igbo people are very sweet and good hearted people. Don’t think igbos are like yurobas, always looking to take advantage out people they deem outsiders.

You’re very lucky your NYSC is in Abia. Literally gods own state

You were at ogun state but on your way to Abia state you rested at Lokoja. Are you sure you know what you are saying?

Secondly, there is insecurity does not mean that everyone in that area are bad.
Groups like boko haram in the north and unknown gunmen in the east are just criminal group. That doesn't mean that everyone living in that area are violent like them
