I do support salary increases. However, an overhaul of the civil service or government workers in general must be made. Slash the civil service by 50%. Then government can increase the salaries of those who remain.

However, any salary increase that would be inflationary should be fought against. It would make petrol and other prices shoot up.

So, any right- thinking union leader should realize this, and instead of threatening to go on strike, negotiate with government on how to buffer the effect of the subsidy removal with long - lasting and traceable investment in power and agriculture.
