Things I found out in Sweden.

• I paid commission to exchange my US dollars to Swedish krone! Foreign currency is actually not craved for here like we do in Africa

• Everyone is helpful, nice & kind. Can give up their food for you. Their social welfare system is the best in the world.

• It's a totally cashless economy here. Yes, you actually dont need a paper money. Everything is digitalized including buying anything!

• Everyone works. The bills are crazy so any krones is needed. The Swedes are naturally, big, brawny, smart and strong. So working hard is never a problem.

* Work resumes by 10 am here due to weather changes. I mean formal jobs, not non skilled jobs.

• During summer, the sun doesn't go down. Meaning, there's no night. You can get sick due to body adopting these time changes. My first night i Stockholm, i slept around 1am without knowing its that late.

• Its really stable here. Count your self lucky like me if you have access to Sweden, it takes a lot to get their papers! Their paper can straighten out some shits in your life. I am a testimony.

• Stockholm is an idea City to raise up a child as everything is cool, lovely and good! World class primary & secondary schooling FREE.

• Crime rate is really low. Yahoo, fraud or other social vices can not work here. You will be caught easily as there are traits to everything you do

• Swedes are normally thieves, they are the original Vikings or sea faring thieves of past, so to curb that natural trait to steal, the government has done a lot to ensure everything can be tranced, this gave rise to a cashless, contactless economy that has proved to very efficient! In order words, it has made the Swedes to be law abiding because off what use is it to steal when you know you will be caught? Well, their prison is better than most average homes in Africa!

• Transportation is relatively fixed. For 3.9$ (39SEK) you can get a ride on the bullet train to anywhere in Stockholm for 75minutes. No other fee applies.

• Beside Rent, food, anyone can survive in Stockholm without much of a deal! With a Salary of $3000 per month, you'd live like a king! Especially if you work remotely!

• You don't really need public transport/a car to move around city, except you are hopping from one island to another. A scooter or bicycle would be more helpful!

• Swedes are Innovative, they have customized bicycles to various roles in the house, or work.

• I prefer living in Stockholm than anywhere in USA or Canada.

• The gap between rich and poor is low compared to France or UK. Here the richest man might be that fellow riding an electric scooter, or drinking low beer with you in the pub.

• Most houses in Stockholm do not have physical keys... They use codes type into the door to open. So if you have no business there, you gat no reason

• Almost everyone drives a bicycle, or scooter to move from one place to another.

• Sweden is really expensive to live in, but has one of the highest quality of life you can imagine.

• Everyone drink tap water. It's squeaky clean & safe. pH value is almost 7.0 on the dot!

• I met several Nigerians, most of them left Italy to reside here. They're always preferred before other African nationalities.

• Nigerians here, as in Kigali keep the law.
Can you please give me the steps to get a student visa or work visa? Much obliged

Life is hard because Nigerians hardly integrate.

My problem with countries is never the culture, it's the natural factors. For example, Canada speaks English but I don't like it. Not because I want to integrate, but because it's too cold, too big, everything is too far, a car-dependent society, flying within and out of Canada is so far, etc.

But hardship? Sweden can never be hard. How is it hard? Even if it's hard, the high quality of life compensates for it. To each his own.

Sweden is not hard, but many Nigerians love to succeed faster than their shadow. You rise gently. a ghọtara OP?

Sweden’s Migration Agency (Migrationsverket) handles issues relating to immigration, visas, permits and citizenship. In some cases, in a 3rd country, this service is outsourced to any Schengen member country in that 3rd country. They are meticulous and looks for the daintiest mark for illegality/falsehood. This might be an innocent omission, they don't care. They expect you to be meticulous too. Also, your previous stuffs must align with your migration plan. Say for instance, your Cv says you are a skilled IT professional but you are seeking jobs in Health care services because that appears to be a low hanging fruit to you....

Anyone who wants to work in Sweden should first find out if they need a work permit. Almost all Countries in Africa needs a work permit. As a Nigeria, you need one before leaving Nigeria,

There are many different kinds of work permits depending on where you come from, how long you plan to stay and what you want to work with. To be granted a work permit, you first need to have a employment contract. Very IMPORTANT

The employer who is looking to hire you must also meet specific requirements. Your employer can learn what they need to do in order for your application to be approved at The Swedish Migration Agency.

Work permits do have have limitations too.
If you receive a work permit you will only be allowed to work with the occupation and the employer who is stated on your permit.

A work permit is usually valid for two years.
It can then be extended for another two years.

If you have had a work permit and worked for a total of four years over the past seven years, you could be granted a permanent residence permit. At that point, you can easily switch jobs as you like, with who you wish

If you are exempt from the work permit requirement but your employment will last for longer than three months, you must apply for a residence permit for visits.

In the list below, you can see which time periods are applicable to you and whether there are any limitations for your chosen profession. The application must first be submitted and examined. Before a decision can be made.

The following people may work in Sweden without a permit:

* Specialists in an international corporation who work temporarily in Sweden for the corporation for a total of less than one year. The exception does not apply to specialists who are subject to the ICT regulations. This means that specialists residing outside the EU are exempted from the work permit requirement if they work in Sweden for less than 90 days.

* Employees who participate in practical experience, internal training or other skills development at a company in an international group for up to three months altogether over the period of 12 months.

* People who participate in training, testing, preparation or completion of deliveries, or similar activities within the framework of a business transaction for up to three months altogether over the period of 12 months.

* Diplomats and consular officials, as well as their families and staff. The exemption generally applies to the current mission only.

* Fitters or technical instructors in connection with urgent installation or repair of machinery for up to two months. The work must be an emergency – in other words, an unexpected event that requires immediate measures. Scheduled or foreseeable work does not qualify for the exemption.

* People who have a temporary gig for a radio or television broadcast by Sveriges Radio AB, Sveriges Television AB, Sveriges Utbildningsradio AB or Nordisk Television AB (TV4-gruppen/TV4 AB) for up to one month after entering Sweden.

* Performers, technicians and other tour staff, provided that the performer has been invited by an established arranger for up to 14 days over a period of 12 months.

* Professional athletes and functionaries who participate in international competitions for up to three months over the period of 12 months.

* Railway personnel and lorry drivers in international commercial traffic who are employed outside Sweden.

* Drivers and staff of tourist buses for up to three months.

* Representatives who work temporarily as salespeople, journalists, etc., for a company that does not have a branch or office in Sweden.

* Caregivers employed for a person who is visiting Sweden for up to three months.

* Researchers or teachers at higher education institutions who participate in research, teaching or lecturing activities for up to three months altogether over the period of 12 months.

* Researchers who have a residence permit for research in another EU country and will carry out part of their research in Sweden with an approved research funding body. The exemption is valid for a maximum of 180 days during a 360-day period.

* People who work temporarily in Sweden as a contractor or the equivalent. In order for the exception to be applicable, the person must live in an EU/EEA country or Switzerland without being a citizen there, and have a permit that entitles him/her to work and reside in that country. It is also required that the person is employed by a company in the country in question and will work temporarily in Sweden for the company. The exception applies during the period of temporary work.

* Witnesses or plaintiffs in a criminal investigation who have obtained a residence permit as a result.

For the period of deployment for a person who is part of an aid effort for a disaster or accident in Sweden.
* People who have a residence permit for studies in higher education in Sweden.

* People who have a residence permit for mobility studies in higher education in Sweden or another EU country and as part of the education shall be in Sweden. The exemption is valid for a maximum of 360 days.

Residence and work permits for workers in the Agricultural sector (Berry/Fruit Pickers)
If you are a citizen of a country outside the EU and plan on coming to Sweden to pick berries, you need a residence and work permit. The permit must be issued before you travel to Sweden.

If you as a private person want to work as a berry picker in Sweden, you must apply for a residence and work permit for seasonal work. If you have a representative who is applying for a residence and work permit for you, it is the representative who manages the contact with the Swedish Migration Agency, NOT you. This is where Calm Travels might be able to assist some people, not all. If eventually we got you in, Stick to the protocols & guidelines of your work permit. They dont hear abeg here. They go just nack you ban, and it applies through out Schengen.

If you are employed by a foreign staffing agency
A Swedish company can buy the berry picking service from a foreign company. The foreign company that has employed you must have a branch in Sweden. It is the client or the employer in Sweden that must guarantee what terms of employment apply during your employment. If you are employed by a foreign staffing agency that does not have operations in Sweden, it is the staffing services agreement that shall be applied. This applies regardless of whether a collective agreement has been signed or not.

The Swedish Trade Union Confederation (LO) has decided that the Swedish Municipal Workers’ Union (SKAF) shall have the organization and agreement right for you as a berry picker. This means that it is SKAF that will be given an opportunity to make a statement on the terms of employment.

Your rights as a Fruit/berry picker in Sweden
There are special requirements on anyone who employs a person to work in the berry picking industry. This applies regardless of whether the person will pick berries or work as an interpreter, cook, mechanic or any other form of support to the berry pickers.

Among other things, the company must pay the salary you have been offered even if there are not many berries and/or if you do not manage to pick enough berries to cover your salary.

Everyone who works in Sweden is entitled to good working conditions. It does not matter if you are a Swedish citizen or if you work here for a limited period of time – you still have a right to having good conditions at work. Therefore it is important that you know what rights you have.

You can find more information about your rights at the Swedish Work Environment Authority.

It is important that you personally find out what terms of employment apply in the information about the employment you have received.

If problems arise with your employer in Sweden, you can try to contact the Swedish Municipal Workers’ Union.

The Migration Agency may withdraw a permit
Your permit may be withdrawn if,
* in your application, you provided incorrect information or did not mention something that was significant in regards to your residence permit. Best you let Calm Travels do your applications for you.

* If the requirements for the permit are no longer met – for example, if you are no longer working, or if the terms of employment are no longer met. May sure you work hard, diligently and do not be greedy, by seeking more easy office work while on this type of permit. Everything is done smartly.

* if you have not started your employment within four months of the first day of validity of the permit. Make sure immediately you get your Resident permit, you haul your balck ass here...lol

If you are going to work longer than 90 days, you can get a residence and work permit for seasonal work.

To obtain a permit for seasonal work, you must

* Be a resident of and be in a country outside of EU/EES.

* Have a valid passport (if your passport is about to expire, you should extend it because you are not able to get a permit for longer than your passport is valid).

* Have been offered temporary employment as a seasonal worker by an employer established in Sweden
have access to accommodation of an appropriate standard.

* Have taken out or applied for comprehensive health insurance for healthcare in Sweden (health insurance must be valid for the full duration of the stay and should cover emergency as well as regular medical expenses and hospitalisation, dental care, and repatriation for medical reasons).

*Be able to prove you are qualified to practise in Sweden if the work is within a regulated profession
intend to leave Sweden when the permit expires

* If you previously worked for the same employer: copies of all payslips from the previous employment
in most cases, pay a fee (application fees for a work permit for seasonal work).
Re: Things I Found Out About Sweden! by CalmTravels: 10:55am On Jul 22, 2023
Application fees is usually between 2000SEK to 2200SEK. To know the dollar amount divide by 10

Employing a seasonal worker
If you are an established employer in Sweden and you want to employ staff for seasonal work, the people in question must have a work permit.
Requirements for work permit
In order for the person you want to employ to be able to get a work permit, you must

* Be established in Sweden
* Provide information about the employment and give the relevant union organisation an opportunity to comment on the conditions of employment
* Offer conditions of employment that are at least at the same level as Swedish collective agreements or whatever is customary in the profession or industry
* Offer a salary that is at least on the same level as Swedish collective agreements or what is customary in the profession or industry
intend to take out insurance covering health, life, occupational injury and pension when the person begins to work
* Offer employment that enables the employee to support himself/herself (to satisfy this requirement, the employee must work enough so as to earn at least SEK 13,000 per month before tax)
* Advertise the job in Sweden and in the EU/EEA and Switzerland for at least 10 days.

The seasonal worker must also fulfil some requirements.
Permit for seasonal workers
If you are a citizen of a country outside the EU/EEA and Switzerland and have been offered seasonal work in Sweden by an employer established here, you can apply for a work permit for seasonal work. You should apply for and obtained a permit before entering EU/EES

Work permit requirements for seasonal workers
Requirements for a permit for seasonal work
If you are going to work for less than 90 days, you can get a permit for seasonal work. Citizens in some countries also need a visa.
If you are going to work longer than 90 days, you can get a residence and work permit for seasonal work.

To obtain a permit for seasonal work, you must
* Be a resident of and be in a country outside of EU/EES
* Have a valid passport (if your passport is about to expire, you should extend it because you are not able to get a permit for longer than your passport is valid)

* Intend to leave Sweden when the permit expires
* If you previously worked for the same employer: copies of all payslips from the previous employment

For Employers.
Please note that the person you want to employ must have applied for and obtained a permit for seasonal work before entering EU/EES. A permit can not be granted if the person is within the EU/EES. This does not apply to an extension application.

WHO IS A SEASONAL WORKER?
A seasonal worker is a person who lives in a country outside of the EU/EES and Switzerland, and who is staying temporarily in Sweden to do seasonal work in accordance with an agreement on a fixed-term employment.

Seasonal work is linked to a certain time of the year when higher than normal work efforts are required. In Sweden, seasonal work occurs for example in agriculture, forestry, garden industry, the hotel and restaurant industry, travel industry, tourist and reservation services, operation of ski facilities and golf courses, theme parks and the entertainment industry.

Other rules apply for berry-pickers who are employed by companies that are not established in Sweden.

You said I will need to come through Rwanda as Europeans don't trust anything coming from Nigeria.

How much is the total package (flight and visa fees+accomodation) needed to migrate to Rwanda.

I’m not in Nigeria nor am I looking to go to Sweden, I’m only reading this thread because it seemed interesting. Nobody is obligated to listen to me but sometimes observations by others are useful. Here are my thoughts—

This thread wasn’t meant to really help any of you guys go to Sweden by any other route except Berry picking. Just pay attention to how the op laid out all the benefits of Sweden and captured people’s interest but remained vague about exact directions—he said he could only help those in IT for now, no one else but would try to work with the Swedes to get approval for others. He also said that non-IT people should keep following in hopes of other opportunities arising later. Direct criteria for the field that he said was the only one he could help you guys with (IT) was never posted but now, he has received ‘approval’ in less than 2 days and is giving step by step details for Seasonal workers/Berry Pickers than the original desirables (IT PRofessionals). Now, he’s telling you that instructions for IT professionals will come later.
From the beginning, this guy aimed to recruit Berry pickers but instead of just being honest about that, he played a long kind game with people he knows are desperate. Some Nigerians can be so dishonest and take advantage of the bad situation in Nigeria and people’s desperation.
