Please don't mind anybody that says you should not feedback the management.
Their's hierarchy in every organisation, Go through your findings over and over before engaging your line manager. Discuss it verbally with him as if you're confused, after he gave his own reasons, tell him you will notify him formally.(Don't mention email)
Send direct email to the line manager, copy your teamlead and the HR.

From my years of working under good and bad people, I will advise you to never consider what is right in the eyes of a man rather, let God and your conscience be your guide.
Involve the management as a team, don't open up to a single individual coz u don't know who is who.

Like I always say, the first thing to do when you get to a new work environment is to study the politics there. How the employees are connected to the management. Once you know this, you will know how to engage.

Do you have an auditor in that organization? If yes discuss the matter indirectly and sample his position, then you will know if it's an inside job, but if you serve as in dual capacity as auditor and accountant you are free to approach the MD and inform him of what you think, don't act like you are trying to expose anyone just dwell on the subject matter.

Watch your back for unexpected and unsuspecting criminals in the company. Carefully walk your way into the heart of the company boss/owner through someone that has his ears.

Otherwise, the owner might be romancing with the chief problem of the company which could land you in trouble.

Please be watchful!

I've been a victim of black science from my places of work because of my stubbornness.
But one thing I have come to realize is that God never abandons anyone fighting for a good course.
Although I suffered during those times.

Have you considered the relieve allowance used in arriving at those tax liabilities? If they have been considered their is no point deducting it from gross income. y

of course you are right.

if you don't report it, it will affect your own tax payment too and you will go home with less than what you are expected to go home with.

I am sure all the other staff will be happy for that.

so go ahead and do the right thing.

As a professional accountant, I struggle to understand what he/she is trying to say.
You do not deduct or add Pension and nhf before you get your gross income, your gross income is your gross income! You are required to take pension, nhf and consolidated allowance as deductions from gross income to arrive at your taxable income which is now subjected to the graduated tax rates to arrive at your paye.

It's not a serious issues, discuss it with your employer, that is one of the reasons you were employed and if you can not discover such and share your thought with your employer to take decision, then you are not doing your job, and it may affect you.

Lol. You are new there, you better stop trying to correct anything. Do the job you are paid for. As long as the error does not implicate or involve you in anyway, abeg mind your business. After a while when you have a good understanding of the place, you will know if to report and who to report to. Until then, face your business.

I think it's normal to make a higher provision for tax liability above your tax expense. Although, this impacts P&L adversely.

I think you can meet a senior in the Finance department to seek a better understanding of the financial reporting process.

for those who don't understand the headling

When someone mentions that their "tax liability is higher," it means that they owe a larger amount of taxes to the government. Tax liability refers to the total amount of taxes an individual or entity is legally obligated to pay to the tax authorities, such as the Internal Revenue Service (IRS) in the United States or the relevant tax authority in other countries.

Several factors can contribute to an individual's tax liability being higher:

Income: Higher income levels generally result in a higher tax liability because income taxes are often calculated based on progressive tax rates. As income increases, individuals may move into higher tax brackets, leading to a larger percentage of their income being taxed.

Deductions and Credits: Lower deductions and tax credits can increase tax liability. Deductions and credits reduce the taxable income and the overall tax burden.

Changes in Tax Laws: Changes in tax laws can impact an individual's tax liability. If tax rates increase or tax deductions are reduced, it can lead to a higher tax bill.

Investment Gains: Capital gains from investments can add to taxable income, increasing the tax liability.

Employment Status: Tax liability can be affected by an individual's employment status, such as being self-employed, which may entail additional taxes like self-employment taxes.

Filing Status: Different filing statuses (e.g., single, married filing jointly, head of household) have varying tax rates and deductions, affecting the overall tax liability.

It's essential to understand that tax liability is a legal obligation, and individuals or entities are required to comply with tax laws. Failing to pay the appropriate amount of taxes can result in penalties and legal consequences.

If someone finds that their tax liability is significantly higher than expected or they have concerns about their tax situation, it is advisable to seek guidance from a qualified tax professional or accountant who can help with tax planning and ensure compliance with tax laws while optimizing available deductions and credits.

First of all fight for yourself first ,by making the management remit your contribution to Pension and NHF monthly. IF this succeed, other staff eyes will open.

Don't rush to report. Be smart, it could be a fraud that has deep roots.

What you can do is to take it as a new technique they use that you don't know and ask questions why it is done that way as if you want to learn.

If you discover that they are ignorant and it is a mistake, educate them. If you realise that it is a fraud, present possible problems that may arise from it or better ways to do it and avoid suspicion. Then suggest the first step is to correct the anomaly. Carefully observe reactions from all stakeholders and decide whether to continue correcting or not
