My friends have been advising me to start saving money for a while now, I don't earn much but I had already decided to start saving, no matter how little, just yesterday when someone heard us talking about it, he said with the way Nigeria currently is, saving has disadvantages because my 1million today will become 500k next year.

Do you have a job that you are talking of saving money?

In the end you still need to save to invest.

I use piggyvest to save...and invest at the same time. You can try it by downloading the app from the play store.

Ps: I'm not their agent, neither am I trying to promote the company. I just love the app because it's seemless to use

If 1m wey you save turn to 500k...that means someone that has not been saving is owing - 1m - 500k

Investing is wiser than saving. The lowest risk option is saving for a month and convert to a more stable currency. Try to ensure your exposure to naira is limited considering your short and mid term financial responsibilities. If you have money you don't need for a long while, do not keep it in naira.

Wot if u buy dollar $1000 at 850k rate from aboki,
Then next 3 month.. naira gain some strength and its droos to 650k at $1000?

Every investment is a risk. One can hedge their bets by not converting everything to forex and studying. The situation you described is not impossible but the chances of it happening without Nigeria taking the right moves is zero to none.
