How Some Nigerian States Rank In Terms Of Development. by FatherOfJesus: 4:32pm On Aug 01, 2023 |
I have travelled to all 36 states of the country, due to the nature of my job. The Following are some of the important factors that affect development: 1. Natural resources: Availability of exploitable natural resources. 2. Power and energy resources: this is quite straight forward. 3. Capital accumulation: Capital accumulation is the growth in wealth through investments or profits. Means to grow wealth can include appreciation, rent, capital gains, and interest. This includes business activities like commerce. 4. Technological resources: Investment in and adoption of modern technology and also industrialization. 5. Available labor force: Labour force that can work in contemporary business environment like science and technology and commerce. 6. Transportation and communications: road infrasture, rail and water transportation (if necessary). 7. Education and training: the literacy level of the state. Going by these standards, I will make this list of least developed state in Nigeria. 1. Kebbi state 2. Sokoto 3. Yobe 4. Gombe 5. Jigawa 6. Zamfara 7. Bauchi 8. Katsina 9. Niger 10. Taraba These states have high level poorly educated people, low commercial and industrial activities and poor capital accumulation. Many of their citizens don't know much about technology and cannot seem to be enlightened enough to develop themselves. The following states are the state I find to be the most developed generally: 1. Lagos: no one argue this. 2. Ogun: While this state may be lagging in road infrastructure, it currently scores high in other aspect excluding power (which is a general Nigerian problem) 3. Anambra: Anambra scores modestly fair in road infrastructure and very high in capital accumulation and other indices. They score very high in commerce and very industrious hence they know how to amass wealth. 4. Delta: Delta state does not score very high in road infrastructure but it scores high with respect to resources, education and other indices. They also very industrious. 5. Rivers: Rivers state would have been second if every part of the state were as developed as port harcourt. While port harcourt would have been second to Lagos in development, many parts of rivers state outside of Port harcourt are still facing a lot of challenges in terms of development. I can tell you for sure that there's no single bank in the whole of etche local government. The creeks of kalabari and ogoni land and still very underdeveloped with very low human resources. 6. Oyo: Oyo state is just modest all in indices. Fairly good roads, good education that produces good labor force and modest capital accumulation. 7. Imo: This state is not very industrialized outside of oil and gas but they have modest capital accumulation from investment in lifestyles. They have very good education by Nigerian standard that produces good labor force and their natural resources in form of gas is froglipping their GDP. 8. Abia: This state may have one of the worst road infrastructure in the country but you cannot put it aside when it comes to education, capital accumulation, power and energy resources. It's home to the biggest commercial activity in the country, it has modest industrial activity and also the biggest power plants. This drives their wealth accumulation and makes its citizens compete Favourable financially with other states. They are extremely industrious. 9. Enugu: the road is very modest in indices, although this state would have ranked better if all of its towns are like Enugu city. They have good education and a considerable amount of industries. They also have decent road network, better than many on this list 10. Edo: Edo state does not have the best roads in the country but the the people are very educated and with a large city like Benin city and university of Benin, they prdocide some of the biggest labor force in the country. They are decently educated and industrious. You will observe that I didn't add states love Crossriver, Akwa Ibom, Ondo and Ebonyi state with better road networks than Ogun, Edo and Abia. This is road infrastructure is one aspect of development. If you remove road infrastructure, the aforementioned states are not better than Abia, Edo and ogun in terms of industrialization, commerce, education and capital accumulation. An average individual in Ogun, Abia and Edo is more exposed, richer, educated than someone in Akwa ibom, crossriver and Ebonyi. States like Kaduna and Kano may have big capitals, but outside of their capitals, you won't see much of development with respect to these indices, especially commercial and educational developmental that reflects in the HDI of the people. 9 Likes 2 Shares |

007kjb:To be fair, I was looking at 1. Road infrastructure 2. Commerce and industrialization. 3. Education. 4. Capital accumulation While Imo state may score higher than Oyo with respect to education, Oyo state is more commercialized and industrialized than Imo state for now (maybe that may change anything soon with the growing gas exploitation in Imo state). To be fair, Oyo state also has better road infrastructure than Imo state if you look at all the major towns in Oyo and Imo state. Look at roads in Ibadan, Iseyin, Saki, Oyo town and Ogbomoso, one will agree that these towns are better connected Owerri, Orlu, okigwe and Oguta. 2 Likes |

007kjb:Ogun state on the other hand maybe below Imo state if you consider roads, but Ogun state is very much industrialized than Imo state and even more commercialized. If you look at Education, Ogun state is also as educated as Imo individual-wise and coming to number of institutions, Ogun has more institutions than Imo state in general. However, we cannot negate the fact that Imo state is generally more serene than Ogun state but it's not just about that. 2 Likes |

MEEVEET:I think Ogun state is more industrialized than Abia, however abia is more commercialized. Ogun state has more towns and cities then Abia state. However Aba is bigger and more built than all cities in Ogun state individually but if you consider that Ogun state has Abeokuta, Sagamu, Sango, Agbara, Akute, Mowe, Ibafo, Ijebu ode you will agree with me that Ogun has more towns. For example, Abia has just two cities:Umuahia and Aba. Arochukwu which is Abia's 3ed largest town is way smaller than sango ota, Ijebu ode, Sagamu. Arochukwu is about same size as Ilaro 5 Likes 1 Share |

Workch: Sorry, Its funny how you all would sit at your hope and browse Wikipedia and speak with authority. How can you say Ogun has more cities than Abia, what do you even call a city- Sagamu? My God! Also, Arochukwu is not the third biggest city in Abia, you see why I say you read Wikipedia and speak nonsense. Aroxhukwu being the 3rd largest city in Abia is a mistake made on Wikipedia. Ohafia is the third largest, besides both Ohafia and Aroxhukwu aren't termed as cities but as villages with well developed structures. I agree with you that Ogun is more industrialized than Abia and Abia is more commercialized. On every other thing, nah, you're wrong. All the "cities" you mentioned are just unproductive villages with industries to fuel their economy. Period! 2 Likes |

RichDaniels:I am from Abia state, I was born in Ogun state. I have visited Arochukwu many times, I attended my tertiary installation in Abia, primary and secondary school in Ogun state. RichDaniels:Ohafia is not larger than Arochukwu by landmass. Ohafia is a one way road with another road leading to Edda, Ebonyi at Eben, Ohafia. Ohafia no pass Amekpu, Elu and Ebem and this is like a street in Ijebu ode. Arochukwu s way bigger. I stayed in Ohafia for a whole Christmas and new year celebration, so I know what I am talking about. Ogun state is more developed. Ohafia ias about the size of Ijebu Igbo or Ijebu mushin in Ogun state. 6 Likes 1 Share |

In abịa we reason, Aba, which comprises of other places such as ala oji, osisi ọma, abiriba (small London) before we dey remember umuahia sef In Imo we dey reason orlu, okigwe mba5. And others then owerri ebe ngwọrị Na only ebonyi we dey reason abakaliki then afikpo, nkalagu Anambra ha ha everywhere stew. Nobody remembers awka sef.
