A doctor died in a hospital she worked at due to the very same reasons her patients die of: poor leadership and corruption.

Almost every state general hospital is a glorified mortuary in this nation.

Nigerians don't sue. That is why a lot of organisation decay in terms of safety and welfare.

If Lagos state hospital was scared of a lawsuit, they would have repaired that elevator long ago.

If this was america, that hospital wouod be facing bankruptcy due to the payout they would be making to the girl's family.

Bad management. I think there should regulations on the use of elevator and beside, government should start writing Environmental Management Plan before building any structure.

who will write the regulations when no one cares about doing the right thing. You will want to blame the engineers but how about the client willing to kill people just to save money. Recently a nairalander called me and inquired about the cost of a 7unit 2bedrooms and to my surprise this man isn’t will to do any architectural or structural drawing, he drafted a nonsense infeasible plan from his bedroom and he is hoping to look for a local bricklayer that they can go to site and build the death trap and then you wonder why buildings are collapsing.
My suggestion to mitigate these building failure is to make a law that a landlord whose building collapse should be charged with murder not even manslaughter and that law sho be taken seriously but then this is nigeria where even the president stole the mandate.

I could have manage to endure it should the person that is responsible to the protracted faulty elevator is the victim but look at how the innocent has payed the ultimate price of selfish negligence.

You are very correct that Nigerians don't sue....part of the reason America works is because companies are afraid of lawsuits....the reason Nigerians don't sue is due to religion....

It's paining me to the point that I ll v to write a thread about buildings that are about to collapse or get damaged suck-away, stairs etc and people still dey manage them.

And the solution to that is lawsuits.

When companies and organization go bankrupt due to payouts and their insurance premium rises, maintaining infrastructure and ensuring general safety would be the cheapest option for them.

Right now, there is no incentive for Nigerian organizations to enforce General Safety.

It’s more likely because it takes an average of 10-15 years for such lawsuits to work its way through Nigerian courts…
