Emergency. The single yellow line is a restricted lane, that's is, only some class of road users can drive there, eg, ambulance, fire fighter, police, brt(for states like Lagos), if you are not part of the lane users and you have to stop for anything (breakdown, relax, etc), you need to leave the highway, however, you can't drive on that lane with yellow markings, that's why that space is created with a dotted line so you can drive through.

Science students got nothing to do with road construction.

Ask science students about abortion pills.

Why is the emergency just in one place ?

It's a Lay-by. It's provided at intervals in case road users need to pull over for whatever reasons without obstructing traffic.

I think it's a bustop.. to drop and pick passenger.. parking on the main road can cause accidents from incoming speeding truck

It's is a service lane whereby drivers and other road users can use incase of emergency. It is also seen, sometimes at every 1 or 2 Kms interval.

Car stop over to drop passengers

You can't overtake if you are on the yellow lane

That is called layby, it's the area for drivers to pullover when they want to carry passenger or offload... cool
Re: Why Is This Road Designed Like This? (Pictured) by NwaliE01: 2:28pm On Aug 06, 2023
That's not a bus stop. It's an emergency stop zone.

It's often found in major roads that do not have shoulder stopping/parking space.

That's a pit stop for you to clear properly on that road safely ,notice the road is narrow and parking anywhere else is a huge risk to yourself and any oncoming vehicle

That's a layby, you have it on modern expressways, it's on the lagos-ibadan expressway too and is basically for a safe repair of minor unforseen issues like tyre change, overheating etc. undecided undecided undecided
Updated: Here in Lagos, the LASTMA, NTVA and their police support must not see you changing tires or waiting for an overheated car to cool, you'll get towed and made to pay some unwarranted penalty. I always wondered if they're given any other training apart from extortionate tendencies they all have (LASTMA, Police etc) angry angry angry angry
