McTominay is a terrible CB for Erik ten Hag’s system. Poor positioning, lots of pashun but actually doesn’t mark well.

If he stays, he’ll be deployed further forward, not deeper effectively to do what Mount currently does.

Pavard is 27 yrs and more experienced but Tobido is younger at 23 yrs and has more potential...Tobido is very good at progressing with the ball from deep though while Pavard can be used as a RB without a drop in the quality of his game.

Dayo might be able to give more info about him but from what I have read he wants to play CB while Bayern feel he is better at RB probably because he can be prone to mistakes.

KMJ plays LCB not RCB. Pavard plays RCB.

That is not very important in this discussion. They are both right footed. Maguire too played LCB all those years until Rangnick moved him to RCB and ETH kept him at RCB. It is not that we were desperate for a RCB since we already have Lindelof who played there for several years and we could have bought KMJ to play LCB for us if that was necessary.

My point is that Bayern for several years insisted that Pavard was not good enough to play CB for them, bought the CB we initially wanted and now want to sell the guy they rejected to us.

Pavard is a 6 to 7/10 defender both at RB and at CB. As a Full back he is more defensive than offensive so when we play with Davies who is wildly attacking we need a defensive RB to sort of balance things

The problem is he thinks he is better at CB and almost every coach he played with did not agree except in Stuttgart where he was RCB in a 3 man defence

In summary Pavard is not elite at either RB nor CB. He is above average at both. His best role will be as a RCB in a 3 man defence. He can be very useful depth across defence line because he can cover everywhere, I have seen him play LB sef before

Bayern will want him to stay but he wants assurance that he will play CB and no one consider him a good enough CB, He will be behind Minjae, Deligt, Upamecano in CB considerations

Its not the first time players want a different role and coaches think different.
