EDUECO:The same Benin that you see poverty walking on its head everyday. The Benin where ladies had to do Ashawo work to survive. The same Benin where over 90% of their youths are Yahoo and scammers. The Benin where you see a Father, his wife and 7 of their kids live in one single room. Before you say anything, I know Benin pass you. I've lived at Limit Road GRA, Ugbekun primary School at Upper, Eweka Road etc

Typing:There is something called "Standard of living" you might have a billion in your account and still have a low or poor standard of living; For example if you do not have good schools around, access to quality doctors and medical care, access to electricity and quality education, access to the Internet and modern facilities. It doesn't matter if the North has 20 billionaires and the South has none, it is the presence of these amenities/facilities that drives up wages, and your ability to utilitize these amenities/facilities that raises your standard of living. The North runs an elitist system and I have seen an mega rich Alahajis, whose daughters were married of at 14 without completing high school, and the closest private school to him is a 115km away. He has money but not a good standard of living. I could educate you further if you wish to know the difference. |

Donpenny:The truth is gradually coming out. In a country with high unemployment rate, Dangote employed 11,500 Indians, why not Nigerians?. Nigerians are business looters. Common poultry, they will steal poultry feeds and drugs, eggs, and even the chickens. They will eventually begin to gradually disassemble the chicken cages, one after the other, they will sell this to scrap buyers. Awon olofo, government needs to make laws in this regard, enough with the bullshits. Opportunities that are meant for a lot of people, some lunatics will just get up and liquidate them and the rest becomes jobless. Most small scale business that could have been of help to the citizens, have been fleeced blind. Selfish people, they should be shot. |

Typing:Is like it is not too long you got to Benin City? Benin City is like a European country to other major Nigerian cities.Artisans from North,West,East and South come to Benin City to make it. If you depend on only salary to make it in Benin City you're wasting your time;Benin City is a city meant for business people. Don't let the poor motorable roads make you to underrate Benin City(Igbinedion, Oshiomhole and Obaseki have performed below average in terms of road construction). Housing like 1 and 2 bedroom flats are insanely cheap in Benin City. The Ugbekun in Upper Sakponba you mentioned is an old part of the city, just go to the new parts of the cities to see good housing. Real business men know that Benin City is greater than both Lagos and Abuja! Majority of Benin City families operate a kind of Europe economy. Benin City is in a league of its own and there is stependous wealth to be made if you have a business mentality. Don't forget that I was born and brought up in Benin City. |

Donpenny:Not generally, probably an average one who has never left his immediate environment to see how things are, socially, in other areas. crackhouse:I assure you that water is far cleaner than most 'pure water' sold for > N20 in the South. I had to stop buying CWAY dispenser water bottles since I came to the South due to particles and dirt seen in the bottles; up to 3 consecutive times, and had to resort to bottle water. Even that one, na grace of God. BinamRex:LOL. I felt same way when I initially came to Edo. I'm also from Edo. But I've come to realise such behaviour is quite common in many States within the South, furthermore, many people you encounter within Edo State who even do the most are not from Edo. Although, Edos cannot be absolved from such blame as for such behaviour to thrive within your society, it definitely had to be encouraged and condoned. I think there is a sociocultural emergency in Edo and many Southern States. BinamRex:A huge blame goes to the leaders especially those in the traditional institutions and the State government. Strangely, there seems to be an acceptance of a culture of greed and selfishness. And this had never been an attribute of the average Edo. Most people in the State have to survive on personal business ventures (albeit heavily taxed by state gov, local gov, certain ministries/departments in the state and some funny unions and these may contribute to higher cost of goods and services in the State). You may have noticed you would hardly meet that young professional youth indigenous to the state bustling around town as you see in other places such as Abj, Kd, Kano, Lagos, PH. This is so, not because there are no educated Edos; Edo has lots of young graduates and professionals graduating every year. But most have to leave the State (either japa, or move to other States. And once they leave, they may never come back , because they do excellently well wherever they go).As someone mentioned earlier, in federal offices within the State, you would find only a handful of Edos there. Once those in influential positions secure slots for their wards, they turn their backs to the rest of the community, no matter how qualified or experienced. Same thing with the state civil service. It seems to be a big deal. In terms of infrastructural development, the same attitude. Residents have to literally beg the state government to provide roads in order to access their homes and businesses. Power supply, the worst I have seen out of all places I've lived in Nigeria. |

EDUECO:Go and sit down. I know Benin like the back of my hand. I was in Benin last week. Mention one area in Benin and I will tell u a popular land mark in that place. Mention one source of money in Benin apart from Ashawo and Yahoo. Let me also mention that, Edo is the most underdeveloped state in this Country. Kogi and Abia are far better than Edo. Benin is like Upper Sakponba for where Kaduna dey. If you enter Kaduna, you will never mention Benin when Kaduna is mentioned. Benin is the only City with poorest roads and zero infrastructure. The GRA in Benin rubbish. A GRA which is always flooded during rain. A GRA that looks like ancient 1920 residential area. Make una cover una face with shame for that Edo. Una Governor is also the worst in this Country. The entire Benin does not even have a standard infrastructure. No bridge, no fly over, no presence of Government. But una go dey make mouth upandan. With your ugly and incompetent Governor Both married women and single for that State na Ashawo them dey do. Remember, last year, Obaseki ban Brothel in Edo, the people of Edo almost eat him raw. Cause Ashawo is their major source of income. Even the few Bini ladies who are based Abroad, na Toto them dey hawk like gala for Europe. Who even know Edo for this our beautiful Country? 😂😂

All the Benin women who are older and retired from Ashawo abroad, are all located around Ugbague by Mission Road in Benin. Ugbague is the location that houses all old Ashawo in Edo state. ![]()

fineboynl:what challenges are they facing. Most of the landlords have recoup the money they use in building those properties. I repeat there is no reason for rent increment. That's not fair. Once they heard subsidy, everyone started increasing goods and services. Why do we do that to our fellow human being? |
