While the micro teaching is more about your confidence than the actual subject/specialization, please still choose a topic you can handle very well. If you are still going to be taking the school staff as your audience and students, take it as your first class in a new school you just got a job as a subject teacher.
Start by knowing your students.
After introducing yourself, ask them their own names too one by one (this will gradually build your confidence) but if they are too many just randomly pick on the loudest person among and ask him to introduce himself then you tell the rest you will know them with time. When he's done, tell him he is your subject rep. Don't just dive into the topic o! Make the class engaging by asking them what they know about the topic (for prior knowledge)...try and get answers from like 3 of your audience.
Tell them they all tried (if them try o).
I'm sure from here on you know what to do.
Don't forget to use that your class rep in the micro teaching to your advantage.

You need to understand that the aim of micro teaching for an interview is not for you to prove your knowledge of a subject matter solely, but to show your proficiency in teaching. I would advise that you choose just one of these topics and perfect the art of teaching it. You should possibly work out some instructional materials for your students. For instance if your take is on acid, base and salt, you should consider making it a practical class. Set up your class with samples of acid base and salt and of course your litmus paper. Briefly discuss what acids and base are by their reaction on a litmus paper, then go ahead and ask your students to test the specimens before them with a litmus paper. Let them tell you their observation and conclusion based on the change on the litmus paper.... you should basically make your class interactive and practical- based.

Do not forget to clearly state your objectives before the actual teaching begins. For instance: At the end of class today, I expect you to know the properties of acids, base and salt and their reaction on a litmus paper.

Note that there is a paradigm shift in teaching today. You don't tell your students for them to know. You show them what you want to tell them for them to know. I hope this helps.
He won't have time for all of these.

Like you said, Micro teaching is not about showing your knowledge of the subject per se. He won't have time to set up everything stated here. If he is a chemistry teacher, he has to be able to teach a non chemist a topic in such a way that he or she will understand it.

My previous post about a big school that called me for an Interview, Well I actually went there, did my test and when I was asked to come in for Micro Teaching where I was faced with Staff of the school and maybe the principal, I flopped and panicked heavily.

The fear was well written all over my face and I was just saying rubbish despite choosing to teach "Matter" as my topic. Immediately I came in and they asked for my name and few other questions before the micro teaching, my voice was already shaking as if I have never taught before in my life(they noticed and told me to calm down).

Although I am an introvert, I hardly face audience talk more of strangers and the quest to ensure that I performed, those things enveloped/swallowed me completely. I have never taught in such a big school before, I think my qualification was what made them approach me in the first place.

One of the staff kept throwing questions at me, I mean confusing questions just to know my depth of knowledge in the particular topic, and guess what? I flopped totally and became disorganized. But luckily, there was a man among the panel who gave me the option of coming back and prove myself that I am a qualified teacher as stated in my CV or I should take another topic I'm more comfortable with. So, I opted to leave and come back so I can regain my confidence.

Now, I have been given enough time to go and make research and convince them on Monday.
How do I conquer that fear and what are the things they look so I can prepare hard.
Thank you.

Let us work on your class here. Choose a simple topic and let's plan how it will go. I'm a teacher and my classes are top notch. I can help you with ice breakers and teaching strategies that will blow their minds.

Since the school is a big school and on the island , I will also like to know the name subsequently. I'm familiar with all schools here and the level they operate at.

I do not expect the school to avail him these items. Its left for op to creatively simulate a standard class for his lessons, creating an assumption that these items are there. Peradventure, the school avails him these items, I do not expect him to use up to a minute to set up. What this approach would showcase is his versatility as a teacher, his ability to carry his students along and ability to adopt an activity-based teaching approach, which is the paradigm that most schools adopt or are looking to adopt in teaching.

The probability that these items may not be available is the reason why he needs to pick a topic that would not require a laboratory set up.

Their non availability should not deter him from delivering his lessons as though these items have been provided. Remember that micro teaching is nothing but a miniature classroom simulation. Its not a real classroom setup, so the resources used can also be unreal. But then again, he can go ahead and play safe with a topic that requires no physical resources. The disadvantage of this method is that he would have no edge over the others.

Always pick easy n comfortable topics

See them as students and not supervisor when addressing them.

Practice at home using your siblings as your students. When teaching or addressing a crowd, you only need to focus on 1-2 persons initially to gather confidence and momentum

Arrange your delivery pattern, let it be sequential. It helps in organisation of your thought process, understanding and confidence built.

E.g Topic: Living Things
Definition
Classification of living things etc

You should be fine except you lied in your cv as a qualified teacher

One thing you need to understand as a teacher is that you are meant to take charge, complete control and authority of your classroom.

Your micro teaching is meant to check that. No matter how verse or superior those that sitting while you teach really are, the motive is to see them as your student who don't know and are eager to learn from you the teacher.

Someone advised teaching Acid, Base and Salt

You only need lime water and litmus paper carry garri along as well. Then ordinary water if you want to use teaching aids.
Re: I Actually Flopped In My Micro Teaching Interview by achorladey: 3:51pm On Aug 20, 2023
@ OP

Start by greeting the class once again despite they know you already. Go straight to the board write your subject... Chemistry..... , date...... 21/08/2023 topic......... Acid Base and Salt........ then faced them and state that in the course of this lesson they will be learning....... Acids.

Go to the board once again and write ACIDS .......

Now do a brief previous knowledge kind of THING they are familiar with compounds, mixtures, solutes, solvents, solutions e.t.c by explaining those terms in brief.

Then straight to the topic...... ACIDS........

Define Acids.............. After defining acids emphasis the key key point......... substances that gives hydrogen ion as the only positive ion.

You can choose to write the definitions on the board as you explain then.....

Then draw on the board a breaker with water and hydrochloric acid dissociate in water showing H+ ions and CL- ions in solution then emphasis the H+ ion as the only positive ion when the acid dissociate

You can decide to do so with sodium chloride in water too then emphasis that when it dissociate no hydrogen ion was seen which indeed shows Nacl is not an acid.

Yes, I am a teacher, are you?
I went for a teaching interview yesterday, they asked us to prepare a lesson plan and also a lesson note on any topic of our area of specialization.

I haven't even taught before and I have no experience as a teacher, but I made some researches and studied extensively on a particular area of my niche and wrote well.
There wasn't really any micro teaching but I was asked to write on a board, I wrote the subject, the topic and the date, the principal said it's OK.

She now asked challenges affecting schools, how I can help a school grow revenue, my success story in my previous teaching experience and lastly salary.
I sha answered them but when they discussed the issue of salary I told them I am after 30k since it's a growing school, they now told me my subject area isn't vacant if I can teach economics, computer and geography, I obliged.

They said they'll get back to me but she refused scoring me till I left the scene cos my eyes were fixed on those score results on her desk.
So I don't know if I made it in the interview.
How do I know if I was successful?
I Just pray I get the job to at least start something with cos it's not funny sitting jobless at home

Your teaching aid comes into play after when you pick the most common property of acids which is sour in taste.......

Ask them when they take a little bit of garri in their
mouth they feel a sensation in their cheek or when they take lime juice what sensation do they feel. That is because of the acid present in those materials.

You can choose to test for acid using your litmus paper if you have which will be another means to explain another property of acids.

Judging by the subjects they want you to teach, I can say that they are keen on cutting cost. You may be selected since you obliged on being able to teach these subjects. I just hope they don't overwork you and underpay you. You should have asked further if you would teach each of these subjects at all levels ( jss1 to ss3) or just a level. Either way, I wish you the best!

Akwa Ibom State.
Moreover, schools here hardly pay more than 25k, so I consider myself lucky to get a 30k job in akwa Ibom State that ranks top in unemployment.
Assuming I was in Lagos I'd have had a bit of ego and pride while bluntly resisting taking multiple subjects.

simple trick:
1. research and refresh your knowledge on a topic you trust yourself to be able to handle without quaking.
2. Just know that most of those teachers know less of what you are about to teach but just want to intimidate you.
3. Know that lossing this job opportunity is not the end of your life.
4. While talking ,do not look at any one's face rather look above their heards.(Avoid eye contact with any of them.)
5. Talk within what you know and can remember, do nto stray into danger areas in your talk.
Goodluck.
