Home Office can't crack down on people they never licensed in the first instance naaah cheesy Rather it is the beneficiaries like the lady who would get reprimanded cos she's gone against the rules which said - don't pay for COS or job in the UK. All she needed to do was apply directly to the care homes or agency and not give monies to some agent who probably went behind to apply on her behalf to an agency who has now ran out shifts.

Won't it be nice if the HO or any government agency cracks down on these people taking advantage of innocent immigrants?
We complain that things are bad in Nigeria yet it's this same attitude of covering up for others that, largely, led us to where we are today. If you ask me, I'll say keep reporting them until they all go out of business.

He can deposit the money directly into her account, but that's like paying cash and then you'd have zero protection if it turns out to be a scam.

Be careful and patient....listen to your gut and don't allow yourself become a victim.

Banks ususally ask for reason(s) for the payment, so i suggest that the person select business transaction as a reason then rent payment as a reference

It doesn’t matter, as long as cash is exchanged be it a deposit or transfer, the OP won’t get their money back. A similar incident happened to my former colleague but this was in relation to a car sale. The bank told her that she was on her own and advised her to only use PayPal for such transactions.

I agree with you but sadily even in this thread some people already in the UK are willing to refer you to paid COS

I've been a victim of a scam that involved payment via bank transfer. I thought my bank would compensate me because I've been a loyal customer for over 20 years and although it was hundreds of pounds, to a big bank like them that's peanuts innit lol, but in the end they could only say (in effect) "sorry madam, next time only use credit or debit cards."
Lesson learned - now if there's any doubt in my mind, it has to be a debit, credit card or PayPal payment. Bank transfers, like cash payments, have next to zero legal protection. ( unless you report to the NCA or trading standards)

Good day everyone

I am currently in Colchester , UK with a student dependent visa and I have got an interview with an NHS trust in Chester Liverpool area on the 5th September.

The job is an IT role with possible visa sponsorship.

I will appreciate if anyone can have me on a night stay preceding the day or some alternatives to use as Airbnb will be quite expensive.

Thank you.

Not really.

The examiner would rather terminate the test at any danger and this can also happen with instructor's vehicle with dual control.

The law says you can use your personal vehicle provided all conditions are met. These examiners are professionals, they don't use emotions.
. When I did mine, I used my car and it was not a problem. The examiner even asked me and I said yes it’s my car. He asked if I have international license I said yes

I would like to ask, how do I make rent payments using credit card or debit card or PayPal? Assuming the landlord insists on bank transfer? Is there any website this can be done through? Thank you.

Zahra29:

The answer to Q5 is "all of the above"

If you transfer the rent payment to her account and it's a scam, then it's very likely that you will have no recourse through your bank to recover your money, because bank transfers are not covered by the same protections as debit and credit card payments.

Why don't you ask her to make a formal introduction to the agent/landlord? As you've pointed out, you need a contract or some type of legal agreement before taking up occupancy in someone's house

You just said Neath for accommodation. Due to the difficulty of obtaining family accommodation in Swansea, some Swansea students live in Neath.
As for jobs, they are on indeed it depends on how well he can apply and get shortlisted. Some people go as far as Bristol to work.
Everything depends on how smart your friend and his wife are.
Knowing how to apply for jobs is a skill itself.

Thank you for your reply.

Hahahahaha please as per the job what city in wales will you advice him to search for accomodation? Cos job is the koko although he's coming with his spouse

Thank you again

Bank transfers are absolutely fine if you are sure of the recipient. It's only if it's a scam that it's more difficult to recover your money.

If you have a valid rental agreement, then it should be fine to transfer your payments (use the reference field to indicate what it's for e.g. "May Rent" or set up a direct debit.

Thanks for this information. I will check spareroom tonight.

Zahra29:

Brighton is a very popular city, especially during the summer. You might find it easier and cheaper to secure a place after the summer holidays which end in about 2/3 weeks.

I'm sure you have already, but just checking that you have looked into spareroom and the like?

Reminder that from the 27th of August health and care visa holders are only permitted to do up to 20 hours additional work outside their main jobs.

From gov.uk:

Working after 27 August 2023
From 27 August 2023, you’ll only be able to do up to 20 hours of additional paid work without updating your visa. The job will need to be either:

in the same occupation code and at the same level as your main job

in a shortage occupation

If your landlord has PayPal a/c and agrees for that method of payment then good else bank transfer will do.

Credit card payment will be great if the payment is made via payment website or an app which i'm not sure many landlords have.

For ongoing tenancy agreements, it's not a worry......

New tenancy, with the way 419 full this rental market space....... Odikwa too risky......😂

Hiya,

The 1st time I relaxed my hair here, I paid about 96pounds for relaxing and trimming with my own relaxer o. I wan craze because it did not make sense and sadly I didn't confirm the price before I started (na me f-up)
2nd time I relaxed my hair, found a cheaper salon and paid about 35 for relaxing, trimming and cornrows
I've never done box braid here but my friend who did paid about 70 pounds for hers.

Hope this helps.

Good morning all.

Please I need to seek clarification. I am a skilled worker in UK. My husband brought the children in June 2022 and got is BRP about same time. He went back to Nigeria but finally returned in November 15. We got our car in December and he has been using his Niaja driver license to drive.

Now, he wants to do the practical and want to use his car., considering the fact that he can only use his naija driving license for one year.

My question is when is the 1yr start counting? Is it June when he first came or November. ?

I told him that June will be seen as the date he came to UK not November.

Please someone should help me oh. I don't want him to violate the laws

Thank you

I used my own car and it was excellent.

I only made sure I had someone to accompany me , in this case - my 3 days borrowed instructor.

The person that accompanied you?is his full uk driver license up to 3 years and is your vehicle carrying the you carrying L sign on your car when entering the venue ?That you escape this doesn't erase the fact that another person might not get away with it , you should understand that whistle-blower is a normal culture here.

Guys please advise

We moved out of our 5 bedroom students accommodation in July. One month today.

The letting agency said the repair and cleaning cost more than the 1k deposit and sent a ridiculous price list.

It's been 2 weeks we replied and sent a reminder to say we disagree with the quoted prices and need receipts and all but no reply.

Our deposit was put in a deposit scheme.

Please what do we do?

Quoting to save for later.
davide470:
On this, I helped draft the email below and so far, I have had 100% success rate from people I shared with. Let the student send this to the council ccing the partner.

Good evening,
My name is xx, a full-time international student at xx University and my partner's name is xx.
I reside at xx. I had initially requested a council tax exemption as a full-time student but was told my partner is a liable party for council tax because he is not a full-time student. We received the attached bill to this effect for the period xx 2022 - xx 2023 wherein it was split into xx equal installments.

However, Article 3 of the Council Tax (Exempt Dwellings) Order, SI 1992/558 provides that 'A dwelling is exempt from council tax if it falls within any of the following Class N: a dwelling which is either:
(a) occupied by one or more residents all of whom are relevant persons;
(b) occupied only by one or more relevant persons as term time accommodation.

A relevant person means:
(i) a student;
(ii) a student's spouse or dependant being in each case a person who is not a British citizen and who is prevented, by the terms of his leave to enter or remain in the UK, from taking paid employment or from claiming benefits or (iii) a person to whom Class C (school or college leavers) of regulation 3(1) of the Council Tax (Additional Provision for Discount Disregards) Regulation 1992 applies.

From the foregoing, please note that I belong to category a(i) I am a student and my partner belongs to category a(ii) he is the spouse of a student. We are both non-British citizens and his visa prevents him from claiming benefits. Subsequently, we qualify for the 100% council tax exemption.

Furthermore, please see below links citing cases whereby 100% exemptions were granted to student dependants by the Court:
https://www.casemine.com/judgement/uk/5a8ff72860d03e7f57ea8dcf/amp
https://www.lawgazette.co.uk/law/local-government/65852.article

We look forward to your kind response..

Councils dread court cases most times as it does not make sense to be dragged to court for £150/m tax.

Good morning house.
Please I registered my sister for IELTS exam but made a slight mistake with her Intl passport number ( I wrote 20 instead of 02).
The results is out but with her original passport number. Is this a costly mistake and is there a need to rectify it?
I would appreciate your responses please.
Thank you very much.
