Their zeal and success is the major reason for the hate..

Have the Igbos done half of what the Fulanis have done....but one of them was the president last term.
Other Tribes are succeeding as well. Yorubas are succeeding as well. So why are Yorubas not getting the same hate?

One of the things I have noticed about igbos on Nairaland is the frequent bragging. Such bragging will certainly make others hate you.

Ok you tell me you hate the Igbo and love the Fulani....even as they chased you away from Ilorin cheesy

Yorubas are only successful within their region...and not outside...so you cannot define that as success across the country.

Igbos success beget hate...as their success is visible across the country...

Who is crying that Igbos want to take Lagos?

One of the realities of history is that everyone remembers it from their own vantage point. I urge everyone that truly wants to understand Nigerias history to read from as many sources as possible in order to obtain a balanced picture.

The best people to have told these stories were Gowons permanent secretary's- the so called super perm secs. My father was one of those men. Unfortunately those men took the secrets they knew to their graves. Those who wrote gave bland accounts - preserving the confidences they swore to maintain under the old official secrets Act.

Also unfortunately, and I say unfortunately, this left an empty space that is being filled by all sorts of stories.

May God bless Nigeria and uphold her.

The question I want to ask you is, why are Igbos hated? If you are being hated then there must be something you are doing that gets your haters irritated.
Months back, a young boy in Benin won 3million on sports betting.

Out of envy for his winning, and that his life was about to change, his friends conspired and murdered him.

How did he deserve such hatred?

What did he do to warrant it?

How Major Nzeogwu killed Ahmadu Bello, Sardauna of Sokoto
Gripping details of how Sir Ahmadu Bello, the Sardauna of Sokoto and Premier of the Northern region was killed by mutinous soldiers led by the late Major Kaduna Chukwuma Nzeogwu on January 15, 1966 have been revealed in a series of dispatches by British diplomats and intelligence officers during the period.
Titled:British Secret Files on Nigeria’s First Bloody Coup, Path to Biafra, the details are contained in the current issue of TheNEWS magazine which is out today on the newsstand. It was written by Damola Awoyokun, an engineer and historian.

According to intelligence dispatches on the death of Ahmadu Bello, he was not in the main house but upstairs in the rear annex with his senior wife Habsatu; his second wife Goggon Kano, third wife Jabbo Birnin Kebbi and Sallama, a house retainer when Nzeogwu and his soldiers started breaking down doors asking for Sardauna.

”They (Sardauna and his wives) listened and rattled prayer beads in fear for an hour as Nzeogwu and his motivated mutineers booted down doors, pumped bullets into guards mounting resistance and shouted to others, “Ina Sardauna? Take us to the Sardauna.” It was dark, Sardauna and his wives went downstairs and into the courtyard connecting the annex and the main house. They were trying to escape.

”On finding them, Nzeogwu shot the Sardauna and his senior wife who was trying to protect him. He then blew a whistle which was the agreed signal for all soldiers to converge at the rallying point at the front gate for the final onslaught on their symbol of national decay.

”The rocket-launching party then began shelling the house. Boom! Boom! The ground shuddered like the cannon fire which the great Russian composer Pyotr Tchaikovsky laced into his 1812 overture. Nzeogwu was a lover of jazz and classical music. Their beauty heightened his sensitivity to the decay which Nigeria was. He even mentored Captain Theophilus Danjuma to become a classical connoisseur.

”With the huge flame before him overpowering the harmattan and the night with abundance of light and heat, Nzeogwu was satisfied his own unit’s assignment was a success. He felt like a single note from an oboe, hanging high up there unwavering, avid for glory, above pulses from bassoons and basset horns till a drag from a clarinet took over and sweetened the note into a phrase of such delight, such unfulfilled longing making the coup’s failure unlikely with every passing bar.

”Nzeogwu then left for the brigade headquarters to await news from other units confident as ever like that high oboe note from Mozart’s Serenade for the Winds in B Flat that the news would be good news.

I don’t really blame Gen. Muritala if he truly did that. After seeing the Igbo coup and killings of the Northern and Southwest military officers and politicians in 1966, even a madman will think twice before he can appoint them as ordinary messenger not to talk of NNPC DG.

Truth be said, Gen Muritala Muhammad was a religious and tribalistic bigot with the idealogy of late Ahmadu Bello who sees Nigeria as the property of the North or nothing else is no doubt the promoter of sectionalism, nepotism, tribalism, religion and corruption just after the war that today, has bedeviled the existence of this country as one.
Edwin Clark has attested to this but the same northern mentality to rule and dominate is still in practice by hausa/ Fulani elites and the poor ones who will fight against a true federalism if they are not made to take charge or gain control at all cost. Goodluck Jonathan and the national conference in acceptability in governance and politics comes to mind Go to history of Nigeria and there you will see the genesis of Nigeria problems. The major tribes fighting against the minority trbes. God help Nigeria.

Igbo leaders were tipped off, nothing smart about it, not one civilian igbó leader died whilst other regions lost people to a hail of bullets. People that were not tried or found guilty of any offence.

The name of the person that tipped Zik off can be found by doing a search on Google.

Let's not kid ourselves, that was not a good look at all that majority Igbo officers took over power violently from a government that had a good amount of Igbo people serving in it and none of whom were killed while other regions suffered casualties.

That was always going to be seen as 1 nil to the Igbo's and it was. Yorùbá's didn't much like Akintola anyway but you kill both Ahmadu Bello and Tafawa Balewa and not sacrifice one of yours?

I keep saying it that many of our "celebrated" former leaders were religious and ethnic bigots.

For example, hear what Ahmadu Bello said about the Igbos:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5_odAy4rVz8?si=oVFiQtqTk5P4G3Fp

This is somebody that history told us is a great man who fought for "one Nigeria." But he admitted that instead of hiring Igbos, he would rather fill positions northerners first, then expatriates, before other Nigerian tribes.

The 1960 coup was carried out by several tribes, but today they blame it all on the Igbos. The killings that led to that coup were never addressed.

You see why we need the right history back in our schools?

Nigeria is running on a dangerous narrative where tribes are demonized just for political gains. So sad to see.

North, west, east, south, we need a new round table dialogue to confront those demons and set ourselves free from the weights.

We can't keep this division within ourselves as Nigerians and become enemies during election periods.

I grew up having fulanis around me; I wasn't even in the north. All friendly and nice.

I had Igbo, Yoruba, kanuri, Fulani, Hausa, efik, Ibibio, Ebira, and many other tribes a classmates and friends. Not once did we have issue based on our ethnicity.

I long for a time when we can go back to that period, but we must address the issues that make us resent each other today.

See nobody is disputing this account stop being diversionary. It is the same way they will also give an account of how Dimka laid ambush for Muritala Mohammed at Bank Road Ikoyi. The crux of the matter is that there were more igbos among the participants but they we also Yorubas, ijaw and northerners among the participants let me list the names of the Non-igbos.

Major Adewale Ademoyega - Yoruba
Capt G. S Adeleke - Yoruba
Lt Fola Oyewole - Yoruba
Sergent Adeleke (not related to the captain) - Yoruba
Lt Waribor- Niger Delta Ijaw
Lt Tom Kpera - Northern region

So how in God's name was this an igbo coup, if you have a sizeable number of non igbo participants? Let me also burst your bubble the idea of the coup was conceived by two officers Major Ademoyega and Major Ifeajuna an igbo and a Yoruba.

So how in God's name was this an igbo coup if you have a sizeable number of non igbo participants? Let me also burst your bubble the idea of the coup was conceived by two officers Major Ademoyega and Major Ifeajuna an igbo and a Yoruba.
