Mostob lemme tell you. If we'd use our normal formation, it would have been Rice and Partey in midfield. Once we went ahead, those two would have given us solidity and in Gab/Saliba, we would have held on especially when we were one man advantage.

But guess what, since We went need a goal, he removed Partey (because he's a RB) to put Zinny and when we were 2-1 up, we were light in midfield defensively (Rice, Viera and Odegaard) reason why Fulham were successful in aerial ball(something that wouldn't have happened If Partey was present with rice and he didn't play the FB role). To correct that, Arteta put in Jorginho, a supposed DM who's weak defensively. To see out the win, Jorginho would have joined Partey and Rice In Midfield but the mistake of removing Partey disbalanced everything.

In defence, Our CB also was still a big step down with Kiwi who's not good aerially and not confident enough like Gab and his side was exploited to good effect. I mean Kiwi and Zinny are the weak areas in our defence and that's where Fulham targeted.


If only we had stuck with our Standard last season formation, Fulham wouldn't have gotten back into this game no matter what. But the earlier formation and personnel scattered everything

That said, I don't think it has to do with the structure. Our players didn't just turn up yesterday. Too many sloppy passes and wasted chances.

Rice have effectively shown he can replace Xhaka with the past two matches I watched. He drives with the ball, he gives good forward passes, he's a very good tackler and good aerially, he's a very good space interpretor. I never missed Xhaka this past two games while watching Rice.

On the other hand, we can't blame Partey. He's not even known to play RB before but he's been forced there (worse still at his old age), how can he learn inverted at that age?

You see how we scored 2 quick fire goals just because we played our almost last season formation? Contrast it to the huffing and puffing we were doing during the past 2 games and first half.

It seems you just don't understand how our fluidity, compactness and solidity is missing with this stupid formation and shuffling of players wrongly.
