In what seems like a new and interesting twist to the Tinubu certificate and identity saga, many Yoruba have confirmed that the name “Bola” is not a Standalone name in Yoruba but usually accompanied by either a prefix or a suffix.

Nairaland Yorubas, can you help us? Is it true or false?

I have been hearing this statement on Twitter Spaces that, the name Bola is not a standalone name. It’s usually attached to another name like Bolanle, Bolaji, Bolarinwa, Bolatife or even Akinbola, Olubola etc.

To the Yorubas, is this true, and does it mean that Tinubu’s name couldn’t have just been “Bola” but should have another name attached to it?

I have friends who remove Oluwa and Ade from their names and their certificates have the shorter names on it. E.g Oluwadamilare can be called Damilare or Dare…. Adeyemi can choose to use Deyemi or Yemi. Adebola can choose Debola or Bola. Same thing when ChukwuEbuka choose to use only Ebuka.

Tinubu is from Guinea.

Adebola is never written as bola, It could be shortened but not written as stand alone for documentation purpose.
