Thanks for your write up bro, sorry I was convinced about the 40hrs a weeks jobs you mentioned? I tot student can only work for 20hrs a week ?

Also nothing good comes easy bro we will survive last last lol

Kenn55:
I have wanted to write this for the past 2 weeks, but each time I write, i end up deleting it, after all, it is not my business. But I feel some people need to understand reality.

Now, over the last 3 months or so, I have been coming across a lot of international students especially in church who are getting so frustrated. As someone who has lived in Canada for many years, this is the first time I'm seeing this trend.

One thing that is common among these frustrated students is that they pinned their hopes on getting a job to augment the cost of their programs in Canada. Unfortunately, jobs for international students are now a problem.

There are many theories on why things are getting rough for international students. One theory is that there are now too many students unlike before. In fact, there is an increase of about 400k students compared to previous years and this is why the govt is now considering putting a cap on the number of students allowed into the country. So the number of students have surpassed the available jobs making it difficult to get a job as a student and even accommodation

Second theory is that because of the government allowing students to work up to 40 hrs a week, it has now made 1 student to do a job 2 students would have shared when it was max of 20 hrs a week. So student A can work 40 hrs while student B won't find any.

There are many other theories to the issues but the fact is that things have changed for the worse for students in recent times. So it is important for anyone coming to study to understand this reality. If you don't have money that can take care of all the expenses for the duration of your studies, please for your own sake, consider deferring your admission and gather all the money you need before leaving. DON'T RELY ON WORKING TO FUND PART OF YOUR EXPENSES. It might have been reliable 3 years ago but not now.

Last week I met a student who was complaining bitterly. She has been looking for a job for sometime now. She said if she doesn't get a job within the next 2 weeks she wouldn't be able to pay her rent and other expenses from October as she is running out of money. But she blamed Canada for scamming her. I asked how? She said "They" said she will get a job on arrival. I asked, who are "they"? Did the school promise you automatic job? Did the visa offer promise you job as you applied for visa? As far as I know except things have changed, you can't get a visa unless you provide believable proof of fund for your complete program. I asked where is her POF, she answered by asking me how many students come to Canada with their POF and saying it is all make believe.

If God forbid, she ends up not getting a job and runs out of money, she will end up on the street. Life will become harder for her. She might not graduate and that means no post graduate work permit and no status to remain in Canada and the whole thing will become a waste. The only thing she can do if it happens is to bash Canada as she has started doing. She can open a thread on nairaland about how Canada is rubbish, overrated and how Nigeria is better than Canada. But even at that, it will not remove one single strand of hair from the Canadian government "Blokos". This is just one example, there are many I have met of late in this category

I'm not discouraging or trying to scare anyone but I'm trying to make people understand reality to avoid a bigger problem. I have heard people say if you survive in naija, you can survive in any condition anywhere else. That may not be true for someone who comes into a new country as an international student without money, YOU GO SUFFER oooo.

Finally, whatever you do, DO NOT JOKE WITH YOUR POF and DO NOT RELY ON GETTING A JOB TO FUND PART OF YOUR EXPENSES.

Goodluck to all aspiring students and may God grant you all your heart desires. Amen

The 20 hr work per week cap was removed in November last year and it will last to December this year. By the way, it applied to students already in Canada last year or who got their study permit approved as at October 7th last year. So people who got approved this year will still apply by the 20 hr work limit. This is the information I know except it has changed as at today.

Lagos seem faster now like before if you submit your passport through the UPS at VFS center.

They just moved to new office like 5 building away from where they are before.

Thank you for the response, please what is mbs? Can give a guide on how to use e bank statement from Polaris Bank?

ebank/mbs is more preferred as it is easier for Ircc to verify than hard copies that can be easily faked or arranged

Re: Canadian Student Visa Thread Part 23 by JMG12: 11:14pm On Aug 28, 2023
Yes, it is possible there are two types of admission schools Conditional and non-conditional admission. It will be stated in your LOA, that colleges give conditional admission while for Universities it is left for the team to decide on that. But if you still want to make a payment you can go ahead with it
Becoted001:
Is it possible to get an LOA from an institution in Canada without a tuition deposit? If yes, I hope it won't affect my visa application.

Greetings to everyone here.
Please who have applied to Cambrian College or have idea of Cambrian college. I want to apply for a Graduate certificate but I need to confirm if they accept tuition deposit or if its a must that full first semester tuition be paid before you can apply for study permit.
I could not get the info in their website.
Help a brother please. Its urgent
Once you get an offer, you will be asked to pay some amount of money which is your tuition deposit. The amount ranges, depending on the length and years of the program. Mine is for 1yr and i paid $6,504 as my tuition deposit.

Please I need a clarification on this question below:-

I'm going for 2 years course which will ended in August 2025 and my passport will expire in March 2025, now my study visa as been approved but till validity of my passport in March 2025 instead of August 2025.

I know I will extend my study permit when I enter Canada but what about my spouse and kids that their passport still valid for 5 years? are they going to issue their visa according to my own validity or they will get their visa completely?

Not really sir,i think my point was missed.
I intend to get to get to canada before i withdraw from U of Manitoba. U of Manitoba is sayingi must not take pass 15percent courseload unless i must pay for the semester which i want to avoid.
I saw on IRCC website that i can only take the 150days if its an authorised leave. Does that mean i can only take the 150 day only if Manitoba authorise it or can i just withdraw and move to another province and resume school in January?

someone told me U/Manitoba allows one to register and pay for just one course for the semester....u have to confirm this. You need it as you are required to be enrolled and studying before changing school.

Dear Gurus in the house,

I’m actually new here but need your urgent advice as regards to writing a good SOP to apply for Canada study permit.
I have an undergraduate degree in physiology (medical related), I then applied to University of Manitoba for another undergraduate nursing degree, unfortunately wasn’t granted admission because my school syllabus for transfer credits were not sufficient to meet the required prerequisite (Nigeria factor), however was considered for admission into bachelor of science (general). The admission officer advised that with that route I will be able to complete the prerequisite in my second year (the admission given is to begin from year 2 of 4 years program) and if I do well, I can now reapply for nursing program. (Nursing in U of M is 28months and one qualifying year).

I also need to mention that I currently work as an HR assistant but do have some transferable skills since I will be dealing with humans. But do you think I should disclose this to the visa officer?

I need advice on my chances of getting a student permit visa approved, and how to construct my statement of purpose.

You may want to ask why I’m opting for another undergraduate program, but my reason is because I’m intrigued to study nursing, and because my initial undergraduate course isn’t nursing, I can’t apply for pgd(not sure) or masters degree in nursing.

Please what are your opinions guys☹️☹️☹️

someone told me U/Manitoba allows one to register and pay for just one course for the semester....u have to confirm this. You need it as you are required to be enrolled and studying before changing school. Then when you get admission elsewhere you submit a new study permit application with the new letter of acceptance.

https://www.canada.ca/en/immigration-refugees-citizenship/services/study-canada/change-schools.html
If one is currently enrolled and actively studying, you do not need to submit a new study permit. The link you attached mentioned it, unless a student attempt to change schools outside of Canada. Students can switch schools if they meet the conditions. It is a free process.

While it is true that U of M allows you to pay per course registered, registering only one course in Fall or Winter terms is considered studying part time and is against your study permit guidelines. You can only register for one course during Summer which is considered a free term( you can study or decide not to study) unless your program specifies you must study during summer term like their accelerated nursing program demands.
