I think he understands construction well “I discovered something unprofessional where contractors put a binder course and leave it up to five to eight years, and within that period, the binder course fails. |

This is Awka-Orlu-Owerri federal road completed in 1983 except a bridge at Orashi river not built when Buhari military government took over govt. The road still remains non navigable between Ekwulobia and Orlu. Locals living on both sides of the road after Ekwulobia and Orlu have seen shege since then. Hopefully, the road shall be completed now. 3 Likes 1 Share

Was at Nnewi in Anambra recently, the place is like banana island!! Some of you will not go out the slums you live in Lagos and be ranting dust about other places!! 1 Like 1 Share |

Good to have someone knowledgeable in charge. I always say this. Details do matter. Is it that previous Ministers did not know the importance of the time lag viz use and exposure of binder courses and finishing courses?.... perhaps not. But they likely take the overall decision as to the schedule to completion of works which is often an economic/political one. It is only right for square pegs be fitted in square holes. The time for, 'it doesn't matter who is Minister, after all it is only an administrative position...' should be over. Nigeria is in a state of emergency and you will never find an administrator in a hospital operating theatre while a procedure is on. He waits outside until the operation is over, then he can pull rank. PS. Many engineering firms that should be viable taxpaying agencies to government today have gone under because administrators failed to understand and appreciate the importance of schedules in engineering works particularly pavements, roads and highways. They went bankrupt and government ends up spending more to fix or repeat incomplete works, a double tragedy. 1 Like |

You are guilty of what you accused someone as well. Do you have facta and evidence to support your claim that South East road were deliberately done poorly so that police check points can be establish on the those roads. You people are the one creating fake news all over the place and mis informing people from your region Guyman01: 1 Like |

He should asphalt on the south east road, concrete pavement don't bring out the real beauty of highway. Saving cost and constructing rubish is not welcome. 1 Like 1 Share |

Re: FG Halts South-East Road Projects, Initiates Contract Review by Reference(m): 12:30pm On Sep 08, 2023 |
lizko: Concrete is THE ONLY VIABLE solution to MOST roads in the south where the water table is high, ultra soluble clay soils are prevalent and rainfall erosion is always a danger. Every knowledgeable engineer knows that. The only alternative will be to spend all the revenue of government maintaining those roads year after year. Umahi did well with this in Ebonyi. The only shortcoming was the depth of professionalism and supervision of construction works which was not as thorough as observed. If they say they spent 10 billion per kilometre to place one foot thick asphalt overlying synthetic mat and ask the public to pay N1,000 to pass toll gates you will be screaming at the cost. Abeg, only concrete makes economic sense. Even that is not cheap. 2 Likes |
