This is what every state should plan since oil subsidy is gone. If everything state have this, taking cars out will be by choice just like in developed countries.
I remember Amechi started this rail project too in Rivers but Wike stopped it. It would have been useful now when FG stopped subsidizing fuel and dollar.

Took 15 years for a 27km rail line and you say this is development at a loam cost of $1.5b that the state has since defaulted in loan repayments? Hmmmm it is sad that Nigerian applaud what should be their basic rights to demand from these politicians. Something that is basic, these politicians make it look like they are doing a spectacular favor to us, and people like you keep hailing them.

You may be right. I once lived in Badagry. The masterplan is subject to review and update so the blue line can still be extended to get to Badagry. I won't criticise but urge reps from Badagry area to take it up with LAMATA and the Lagos State govt.

Badagry is connected by a federal road under construction through Sukuk funding. That road will also benefit from the African Development Bank's $25bln funding of a major highway from Lagos to Abidjan in Ivory Coast, passing through some West African countries.

Also Badagry will benefit from a deep sea port under consideration. Not all parts of Lagos will immediately benefit from the rail system as many factors in how development is spread and its needs basis will come into play.

Dude I get your point, but trust me this is your right to demand these guys are not doing you a favor, it is their job to get efficient transport network. The sad thing is that a 27km rail line in a terrain that is not challenging took them 15 years to complete with a defaulted loan of $1.5b which already we know that this project was overestimated with money already in the pockets of these men.

How Lagos Can Pay Back $1.17 Billion Loan For The Train Project In 1 Year

Daily

1 million passengers at ₦2000 - ₦2,000,000,000

Advertising on Trains - ₦200 Million
Advertising on Platforms - ₦150 Million
Advertising on Stations - ₦150 Million

Total - ₦2,500,000,000

Yearly x 365 - ₦912,500,000,000 (approx 1 Trillion yearly)

Thread - https://www.nairaland.com/7834079/how-lagos-pay-back-1.17

This is too ambitious. It doesn’t usually work that way. They will equally incur lots of running cost like salaries, repairs and maintenance, all manners of overheads. They will be quite lucky if they can realize 50% of your estimates. However, your estimate is a good attempt at making a projection. Eko o ni baje o.

These rail lines within a metropolitan city is a landmark projects by a state government. This kind of projects favors the poor more and it comes at a time when FG stopped subsidizing fuel and dollar.
People only shout 15 years but doesn't take cognisance of the difficuties around it.
For example: The planned 4th mainland bridge in Lagos by Lagos state will have 800+ houses demolished and the state will pay them all for their lands and houses at the right value before they began. Also, Lagos is occupied by water so the same project on a dry land will be completed earlier.
Every developed countries today have one or more politicians they immortalized starting from US, UK, etc. There is nothing bad when we applaud someone that could think outside the box. It happens in every societies even within our families. Even companies and institutions gives accolades to standout performers every year!
The only thing I don't support is when projects funds is been inflated.

Dude you lie there. There is no difficulty, have you checked the rail line in Addis Ababa which has a more challenging terrain than Lagos? The swamp areas were bypassed by using bridges dude there is nothing challenging there, and saying it favors the poor is another lie, check the cost of the rail line per passenger for someone from Okoko to Marina? Also note again that the fares will surely be increased because they need to repay the loans collected for this project that they have since defaulted.

So where are all the lines now?
APC hypocrites are rejoicing over a so-called masterplan.
Same hypocrites insulted Jonathan to his fourth generation claiming he left only a drawing of 2nd Niger Bridge.
But their god did so excellently well leaving rail lines as ink inside paper.

Plans are all well and good but What of the others?

Of all the lines, its the ones with the lowest Kms (blue and red) that are almost completed and those ones took over 20 years to complete with very unclear information on how much has been spent so far.

When is the target date of commencement and completion for the Green, orange and purple lines.
When will your own state have the same plan?
I guess they will spend 100years drawing plan alone

This has always been a master plan and very commendable.

Not to criticize, but the fact that Badagry, the cradle of civilization in the entire south west not included in this capital and economic development project makes me question why?

I am Badagrian and projects like this are always exempted from the historical town.

Shameful. undecided

It is the location, the one leading to Okokomaiko can be further lengthen to reach Badagry.
