I'm tired of this, if ikwerre say they are not igbo let them be.

I'm glad that generation that started this madness in ikwerre land are old now, and when they dies off the new generation won't ever believe they are igbos,
And so shall it be.

Wait ooo

So its not "one Nigeria"? I cant celebrate 'Igbo day' in any state of my choice in Nigeria? So where is this 'one Nigeria' people keep talking about?

As much as I think this news is fake because a police commissioner should be knowledgeable enough to know that any Nigerian can celebrate any event, anywhere in Nigeria according to to chapter 4 of the Nigerian constitution , it does show the mindset of some people

There are people in Nigeria who are scared that Ikwerres are ever embracing their Igboness with every passing day, and want to scuttle that so they can continue with "divide and rule"

What those people will never understand is that nobody can fool everyone all the time
Bros with passion ikwerres detest Igbos description. It didn't start today. Not even after the war but before the war.

There is no Ikwerre generation that has ever accepted to be Igbos. Ikwerres formed Ogbakor Ikwerre even before Ohaneze Ndigbo.

When I was registering for my NIN at Abia poly center, there was a girl that seems confused on what to fill in her tribe.
She told me she is from Omuma in Rivers state, 'I should write Igbo?' she asked me. I told her yes.

There are many indigenous Igbo people in Rivers that are not suffering from identity crisis. Ohaneze should leave the ignorant ones.
Em dey answer Emeka. He should have added R to his name so it will be Remeka.
omuma identify more as etche. The girl is probably ignorant.

It's all politics. What the government does matters. If you ever learn what DSS does behind the scene just to thwart Igbo national integration, you will faint. A lot of them are proud of their ID but state bully is rife there. One of them openly flaunted his Igboness, the next day he changed his mind. What do you think happened?

Old news. Anybody can hold their cultural day anywhere in Nigeria but Ikwerre people are under blackmail to an extent that if Igbo day is held in Port Harcourt they would be accused of ganging up with Igbos to divide Nigeria. In order to be free from the Igbo tag they must distance themselves from Igbo associations or if possible use every means to prove they are not on same page.

IPA doesn't speak for Ikwere people just like ohaneze doesn't speak for Igbo. The Ikwere people are split almost in 2 by a pro igbo and an anti igbo faction
Also curious that people we never colonised adopted everything about us including our 'okoro cap' The pictures below are ikwerre people

That is beside the point, Ikwerres can hate or love whoever they like

The point is can I as an Igbo man celebrate my Igbo day in any part of Nigeria? Doesnt matter if its Ikwerre land or not. If I can't, then there is no such thing as 'one Nigeria'

So in the long term, we should all be thinking about how to dissolve this country so that everyone can get where they can freely celebrate their national day

The meeting between Rivers State Commissioner of Police, Dr. Polycap Emeka Nwonyi, members of Iwhuruohna People's Association (IPA) and Ohaneze Ndigbo as a result of the petition written by IPA to the Inspector-General of Police, copied to the CP and other security agencies, took place yesterday in his office. During the meeting, the delegation of IPA led by the President, High Chief Monday Wehere and Dr. William Wodi stated categorically that Ikwerre people are not Igbos, and that there is no โ€œIgbo-speakingโ€ part of Ikwerre land as claimed by the Ohaneze Ndigbo.

They maintained that Igbos have five state capitals and numerous other cities where the so-called โ€œIgbo Dayโ€ can be used to honour their fallen heroes but their choice of Port Harcourt is aimed at causing the breakdown of law and order.

They also reminded the CP that the two factional leaderships are proposing the celebration at undisclosed venues in PH. The delegation of IPA pointed out that there is the likelihood that their undisclosed venues may clash with the venue for the "Ikwerre Martyrs' Day" already scheduled for September 29th, 2023.

They concluded by saying that one of the reasons they are against them calling Ikwerre people Igbos and that Rivers State is not part of Igbo states is to stop them from extending their sit-at-home order to Rivers State.

Responding to their submission, the leader of Igbo Community in Rivers State, Barr. Emmanuel Ukala, who is also the Vice Chairman of Nigeria Bar Association (NBA), Port Harcourt Branch, denied ever fixing Igbo Day Celebration in Port Harcourt.

He maintained that the celebration was fixed at Enugu and also disowned the statements credited to Okechukwu Isiguzoro, Chidi Ibe and Chief Uchenna Okokoba respectively. He also said that they are impostors and cannot speak for Igbo people.

At this point, members of IPA quickly presented the press release of both factions and affirmed that the said venue earlier scheduled to hold in Port Harcourt was shifted to Enugu because of the pressure of IPA on them.

After listening to both sides, the Rivers State Commissioner of Police, Dr. Emeka Polycap Nwonyi advised members of Ohaneze Ndigbo to honour their heroes and do their celebration in their states and leave Port Harcourt if Ikwerre people decides not to join, saying that Port Harcourt is Ikwerre land and whoever that buys land here will not carry it to his or her hometown.

The case ended in favour of IPA, therefore, the Igbo Day Celebration is no longer holding in Port Harcourt.

could you read what you just posted properly?
The man was saying that the PH township comprised 90% Igbo but belonged to 'Rivers people '. Which people are called Rivers?

Did you think I will not read the body of the text? That I will only read headlines.
What you posted further shows Ikwere was igbo before the war.
Let me explain.

The man was saying that ibos of the Eastern region are not opposed if PH was included in a proposed Rivers state. That the people against the inclusion was the PH branch of Ibos. And that they have the right to be against it because they constitute 90% of the town. Incase you don't know the 'ibo' that constitutes 90% of PH, that's Ikwere! The other 10% are ijaw and ogonis

So clearly, Ikwere protested to Zik that they don't want to be included in a Rivers state. The headline simply means that since PH township comprised of Ibo, Ijaw and Ogoni areas, that it can't be called an 'Ibo' town even though they constitute 90%, but a town belonging to all Rivers people. Thanks a lot for this newspaper posts.

Damage control by people who rigged the Rivers state presidential elections.
If anyone is looking for reason why election rigging of the presidential election must NEVER be accepted, this is it.
In order to divide people who voted for change, they are now working round the clock to cause trouble where none had been.
Wike is trying his best to "deliver" Rivers state by all means to slave catchers.
As long as Peter Obi actually won Rivers state (and he did no matter what election thieves say), nothing can ever divide the East.
The South East and South South are like North East and North West: INSEPARABLE.

One atulu up there always saying "Mbok", trying to package himself as if he's from Akwa cross axis when he is a typical "nwa ofe", YOU ARE WASTING YOUR TIME. cheesy

Some of you are just too immature and infantile to make sense.
So, you mean the history of a country begins and ends in under 60 years?
Nigeria still has a long history coming, either together or divided.
The future is very pregnant for all ethnic groups in Nigeria.
Evil always has a payday.
Forget about nairaland. No group in Nigeria has better "strategic positioning" than Igbo people. NONE.
We are dominating Nigeria's economy locally. And we are still dominating the diaspora economy (Nigeria's economy abroad) cashflow into Nigeria.
No other group comes close.
That is something that gives us IMMENSE staying power to outlast every group.
This game is a marathon race, not a sprint. cool
Quote me a day is coming when all groups in Southern Nigeria would want to claim being Igbo, and we would chuckle then. grin cool
