What was the economic growth in 2007/2008 when the redesign was done?

Many African countries grew at that rate from 2000-2019. So it's nothing out of this world for the times. Take Nigeria for instance. In 2002 only, Nigeria grew 15%. From 2000-2014 Nigeria grew at an average of 7%.
Cocoa and gold ( the two major commodities) Ghana export have seen a sudden rise in price and you expect Ghana to maintain the Cocoa bag size currency that has no value ? You don't even think about portability . Ghana is earning more , so trading with weakening cedis at that time doesn't make practical economics sense again.

I repeat no country economy grow at that rate , the only country close to that was china and they were doing 10 percent . When Nigeria economy was growing in triple , just right here in 2010, I remember buying dollar in Nigeria around 120 naira to a dollar. This is when Nigeria economy was growing at 7 percent or so. Even before the rebasement in 2014...

Ghana cedis is even undervalued , our currency is currently not treading at it's real rate

You've not been following, popizaino. The same rvp who said removing full fuel subsidy was the right thing. When I said it here that subsidy was necessary people like generadae and the same rvp said full removal was necessary. I even gave the example of Iran where almost everything is subsidized. I don't really support full subsidy but yanking it off completely like rvp and the rest were saying got us here.

Look at Kenya too. We told rvp ruto was a failure who was only there to play the imf script, he said we didn't know what we were saying. Look at Kenya after Ruto won.
Oh I missed this somehow. I still support fuel subsidy removal in the case of Nigeria. What I never supported initially was floating of the naira. But when it was done, I thought the CBN would have a strategy to not allow the black market run away and encourage dollars inflow into the system.

But then the CBN clearly didn't have that strategy. At least not in this short timeframe.
If the exchange rate was still 460, fuel would be 400 naira now.

In 2002, we grew 15%. It's easy to grow when you are down down from where you supposed to be.

No, Ghana economic rebasement and oil discovery leads to the growth. As at that time there was a sudden jump price in oil sales .

Nigeria also experience it . The oil become all of a sudden expensive and in that case Nigeria benefit .

Nigeria currency is suffering simply because there is too much naira chasing few dollars. It is the same problem everywhere that has currency crisis .

Naira is not going to get out of the woods soon unless Nigeria borrowed . But this time , she must borrowed smartly.

Although,i didn't join the discussion about subsidy removal when it was on this thread, but i supported the full removal in my mind hoping and believing that a Tinubu led government would have thought about the adverse effect on us and put up measures to cushion the effect. And about Kenya,i am too West African centric to think about Kenya and Ruto. The policies in Benin 🇧🇯 Republic, Togo 🇹🇬, Ghana 🇬🇭, Cote D'Ivoire has much effect on my business than having to worry about Kenya.

Removing the subsidy is not a problem in my opinion, rather the quick floating of the exchange rate is the issue for me. I supported subsidy removal but initially never supported floating of the exchange rate. When he did it initially in June and the black market remained steady, I almost had a change of mind but now we've seen the parallel market run away again.
He can still find a way to overcome the resulting challenge from that policy though.

You mean a country that sharply drop about 300 point on its inflation growth is not doing well? You must be an illiterate. All the macro conditions in Ghana remain positive .

Even a common phone case seller like you should know the cedis is doing well against the dollar since way back three months . No sensible buisness man will want to trade naira at the moment . It is obvious .try selling your naira at tudu and see who is ready to buy it . Lol

Imf don't talk from their ass like you, they look at macro economic condition which at present Ghana is enjoying.

Just five days after its debut on Netflix, Editi Effiong’s million-dollar film, “The Black Book,” has achieved a remarkable milestone by rising to the number one position worldwide on Netflix.

This is based on data tracked by Nairametrics on Flix Patrol, a website that offers video-on-demand charts and streaming ratings on a global scale.

“The Black Book,” featuring Nollywood veteran Richard Mofe Damijo in the lead role, eclipsed foreign titles like “Love at First” and “Spy Kids Armageddon” as of Tuesday, September 26, 2023.

In the history of the African film industry, this marks the very first time that a Nigerian title has reached the coveted top position on Netflix’s global platform.

For the period between September 18 and 24, Netflix’s data recorded this Nollywood film at the impressive number four spot globally, garnering a total of 5.6 million views and accumulating an astounding 11.6 million viewing watch hours.

UGANDA-TANZANIA-KENYA 🤝👏

Finally Kenya, grin sorry, East Africa will host the 2027 AFCON

Good news

But why is CAF treating Morocco as if they are better than the rest of the countries in Africa?
In recent years Morocco is given almost every tournament to host and it makes no sense.

Algeria or Nigeria+Benin should have won the hosting right for 2025 AFCON not Morocco undecided undecided

Floating the naira was overdue. Our foreign reserve is completely depleted and as such the FG did what is best in her own interest to float the currency in order not to shoulder the responsibility of defending the exchange rate. You know what they say about Desperate times?

Well both policies are necessary then but at least one of them should have been done a long time ago. But doing both at thesame time was always going to lead to economic shocks.
At least the naira in my opinion, should have been devalued steadily over 3 months due to the removal of fuel subsidy.
